Can we finally get a new GS winner

please.

I'm tired that only 3 players have a chance, it should be time for a below 29 years old player to win, seriously. I want to see something new, we need to be reminded that tennis can be suprising, this year of tennis has been in terms of grand slams, extremely low standards, please give us a 5 set final, and an exciting 5th set tiebreak, and let someone win their maiden, as long as it is not Zverev, it would be good. And even Zverev would be not good, but in some kind of 0,0000001% ok, seriously, we need something that raises tennis. We need new players, new playing styles, a final with two players with 0 . GS titles, if Nadal, Fed or Djoker wins again, the tournament could be forgotten so quickly.

Come on, with Chung vs Tsitisipas final, or something

We’re in an era with 3 of the top 5 players of all time, I’m enjoying that too much to care about new players winning just yet. I want the big 3 to cement their record of 3 concurrent players winning the most combined big titles so much that the chances of it being surpassed in my lifetime are tiny. Let’s get to 60 majors between them, then maybe I’ll be ok with new people winning ;).

No Federer, Nadal or Djokovic....

Sensible queues, no idiots shouting out, no people waving national flags, nobody oohing when the ball lands close to the baseline

Sounds just fine to me

If someone new can get their act together long enough to do it that would be amazing. Sadly at this rate that doesn't seem like to happen anytime soon.

I think the only way...maybe it can be done is if they go through just one of the big 3. I don't think, atleast for now, we can get a new gs winner if they have to go through novak, nadal, and fed or even 2 of 3.

I think three mugs (Dimitrov/Raonic/Cilic) had great opportunity against Djokovic in Cincy.. None had grabbed the chances to Win against Djokovic. What I mean to say is, if you are not mentally strong enough to grab the opportunity then these big 3 are keep toying you all the time..

Guess, what if Djokovic and Nadal are keep playing like Federer till their 40th age..

No, one more. I really want to say that there are no Slam champions under 30 and I want this to be covered in every tennis medium there is.

There isn't a single player on tour right now who's 29 or younger that can actually play good enough to win a slam.
If one were to win, it would be through a cakewalk draw and a lot of luck.

I agree. But, they have to step up and take their place. It can't be given to them.
This. If someone steps up and defeats a couple, heII, even one of the big 3 (apologies to Andy) then I'd say 'well done'.

But, if someone backs into the title because Roger had a back back, Rafa a bad knee and Novak a bad case of the Amor y Paz then I see nothing exciting about it.

I'll love for Zverev to win one, by the way. Anderson is another matter... he makes watching paint dry exciting.

Exactly. And if they can't do it in a best of 3 match, the odds are less likely them holding out in a best of 5 situation.

Djokovic hasn’t been in a winning position for two years before the surprise win of 2018 Wimbledon. So I count him still as a new winner in this year.

Let's (K)hach a plot to save tennis from OldGen and LostGen perpetual domination/disappointment. Karen vs Stefanos final.
No Karen vs Stefanos final but we could have a SF if the plot is (K)hached in 3R to dethrone the defending champion and Tsits can dust JMDP in 4R. The rest will fall in place after that.

3 of the top 5 is a fair assessment, but I think all 3 have inflated resumes compared to other all-time-greats due to the sorry state of the younger generation after them.

No apologies :) Big 3 is right

Their resumes are also hurt by the fact they had to compete against each other. If Nadal and Djokovic were never born, Federer would be on about 36 slams, and that’s not even an exaggeration.

That said, they were born at just the right time, like you say. They’re the last generation to have a technical advantage over their elders, because of the relatively stationary state of racket technology in recent years. Previous generations had to deal with youngsters coming in hitting the ball in new, better ways. Without a technical advantage, being older is an advantage as a tennis player now, because you have added experience, and recovery techniques and medical technology has meant that they aren’t at a physical disadvantage either!

Also the 1975-1979 generation was also really poor, so you could say that this benefited Sampras/Agassi and probably Federer too. I don’t think the 1990-1994 gen is worse than the 1975-1979 gen.

Cilic or Zed are the only real threats.

Delpo just doesn’t look like he can play 7 Bo5’s in 2 weeks (unless the temp stays around 70 and he blows out his 1st 3 or 4 opponents).

The courts are slow; if Thiem were playing better I might throw him in.

No new grand slam winner means that on September 28th when Cilic celebrates his big 3-0, there will be no grand slam champions under the age of 30. I wonder if the ATP will mark the occasion with a statistical tribute.

Chung???? Really??? Good luck with that wishful thinking.
The tsetse fly has had 1 good run in a best of 3. Too early to tell.
The only one with the chops to do it at this point is Z, so his haters are complete hypocrites if they claim they are hoping for anything else than good ol’ status quo.

ETA: KG has the talent but the mentality (and physical fitness) is a whole other story
ETA2: Thiem is not that young anymore but you would think he could pull 1 off at some point. Another Dimi/Nishi storyline in the making I’m afraid.

Not this year, that's for sure.
His most difficult hurdle in his section is 1R vs Stanimal.

Isner is the next highest seed at the very top of the section. TB roulette, if you ask me.

A QF is projected vs JMDP but I like Tsitsipas out of that draw just on JMDP's questionable health again with the wrist. Experience might win out there vs Tsits.

Another slam SF vs Nadal? That was a beauty just 20 months ago. If he gets past Stan, it's possible.

He's been playing like crap all year so I highly doubt it's all just going to come good in the last Slam of the season. I hope I'm wrong because I've always liked Grigor but I suspect my hope will prove as forlorn as at every other event he has played in 2018!

AO wasn't terrible (QFs) and he certainly dropped the ball late vs Joe Kovic at TRS. The first set and a half was solid. Silver lining maybe. Gotta shake that Stanimal demon!

The AO was a long time ago now (really the back end of his great 2017 season), ask Federer! As for Cincy, he had the chance to make history by denying Novak the chance to make history but typically blew it in grand fashion when poised to do so. He's a mental mess right now and the ever-improving Stan will eat him for brekkie!

Rooting for Halep but, if we are going to get a new Slam winner, it would be cool if it was long shot like Goerges, Giorgi, Sabalenka, or Yastremska (very long shot).

On the ATP side of things, still want to see Fed take another one. That aside, would like to see Thiem, Dimitrov, Zverev or Tsitsipas do it.

USO is the slam that has given the most first time USO winners in the last decade. Their strategy of giving Fed the ****tiest draw possible has worked well for them. If they could only do the same to Nadal, we'd definitely get more new slam winners and it would be great for the game.

The book favors Stanimal ever so slightly (1.80/2.00). It will be a Continental brekkie.
