Can you beat this girl?

On myutr she played matches against some females with 11utr and got creamed against all of them easily, so i would guess she is around 9-10utr female, which is quite good but a 9-10utr male should win like 80% of the time.

there is not a gender distinction in utr

Females always (99%) play females and males play males, so there is.

In reality a woman utr is 1 level lower than on paper at least thats what tends to happen in matches.

A 9utr male is similar to 10utr female in general.

Thats also what was figured out in two similar threads about utr on this forum if u check.

You can also check that d1 men have the same utr as wta females, when in reality tje best d1 men absolutely demolish the best wta females.

i hear what you're saying...
i'm thinking that as more data comes in (ie. more cross gender matches), those #'s will converge to be gender agnostic.
serena for example, even when #1, was still ranked like 1600 in utr (men & women)...

NTRP on the otherhand is just a grouping tool (not an absolute measuring stick of skill)...
* women are definitely at least .5 lower than a similarly rated male NTRP
* side note (presuming we only care about singles) a "dubs only" earned NTRP could easily be .5 lower than "singles only" earned NTRP... so for the exercise of guessing "can F beat M in singles"... a dubs only NTRP4.5F is possibly the equiv of a NTRP3.5M singles player.

She got some weird serve instruction tips in this video at around 14:56
Is the coach trying to teach her to pancake a flat serve? The swing path he demonstrates does not look like a natural throwing motion and may lead to shoulder problems.

What he demonstrated as a "bad" follow-thru on her serve seems like an okay relaxed finish?

Also, if she has shoulder pain, his advice seems like it may not help.

If Vince is responsible for changing her serve motion, I think it looks improved & more natural compared to the the earlier video posted of her serving. It already looked pretty good.
Great to see Spadea still involved in tennis. A very long time ago, I remember growing up seeing clips of him playing on tv being touted as one of the next promising junior players.

I think we tend to overestimate how great we look on video playing tennis until we see it for ourselves - that’s the reality check.
I’ve also seen some atp matches in person that when rewatched on tv didn’t quite seem to convey how good the players really are - because we’re comparing their game to the top players that we usually watch who are even better & look so much more amazing on tv.

I agree with the others that this girl would beat down a very large number of the guys on the tw forums including myself. Her abilities, fitness, & game look solid.

This thread is a very entertaining read.

I saw Peter Gojowczy live and thought he belonged in a 5.0 league.

in case you wanted to take a lesson: https://www.playyourcourt.com/tennis-pros/los-angeles-ca/31538/
loved spadea's book.... hilarious.
struck me as the overachieving "academy kid" that achieved through hard work... but didn't have quite the talent of an agassi or sampras (like querry or sock today)

Imagine training your whole life to be a tennis player, make the top 20, beat Sampras and Agassi, and end up hustling for lessons on high school courts?

J
he probably just does it for fun.
i'm presuming he's banked his money (book, earnings, etc...), doesn't have to work, etc... but wants to have something productive to do (since his rap career didn't do so well).
opening an academy is just too much work (and perhaps too financially risky)...
getting paid 150/h to take jobs, on his sched, for spending money,... is probably just his speed.

He was recently hired as a consultant/coach and also tennis double in the Battle of the Sexes movie. Pretty sure he got paid decently for it.

He might have done it for free just for something to do. Who would even know who he was?

Is there any way to find out?

I could probably find out, but who would turn down a decent amount of money doing something they like?

Plus it probably involved a long period of time to to coach the actors for the scenes with them playing tennis or handling a tennis coach. Shooting the stunt double scenes also takes some time.

For sure the production had a budget for this bc getting the actors to look as believable as possible on the closeups is important.

I honestly have no idea, just heard the Mac Borg movie was super low budget.

Considering she is the daughter of one of the richest guys in Switzerland, the amount she paid him may surprise most of us here, who knows.

The coach is doing a good job of working on the things I pointed out about the original video. He's making her work hard on being more committed and aggressive on her footwork instead of floating through it (which was the reason for my inquiry about injury). Also, he's getting her into more aggressive strokes from a solid base instead of slapping and not being committed to her shots.

As far as the above comment on the serve, he is super-emphasizing her hitting through the serve and hitting it flat in order to get her to hit completely through the ball.

As far as her serve motion and perhaps shoulder issues, It looks good overall and I don't see anything wrong with what the coach is having her do. I would change her elbow position at the bottom of the motion. It is somewhat locked down, needing a slight sideways motion as well as forward throwing to get it moving and it is likely putting stress on her arm/shoulder to force it through without completely unlocking it.

I'd perhaps have her go through her serve motion with a weighted rope to get her elbow more free in the motion.

Here is a screenshot as she is beginning the forward swing in her serve motion. Note how cramped the elbow position is.
She kind of has a shot put motion.
OK, made a movie of the screenshot so I could put it on Youtube (not sure why it zooms in. Just hit the space bar to pause.

Thats true and a good analysis, however shouldnt she work on going more past the ball, adding more topspin to her 1st serve instead of trying to hit flat amd have a low % 1st serves? Tho I know that 99% of women hit their 1st serve flat even on the wta, maybe because of lack of strenght and rhs?

P.S. I do slightly regret not playing in the senior championships in Miami last year.

Just to see the look on people faces when they see someone my age hitting and
moving as well as I do ..... it would have been priceless.

Mac Borg still had recent former pro players do the tennis doubling work and I'm pretty sure that they didn't do it for free. The film was relatively super low budget, but still had a budget reportedly around 7.5 million dollars.

Battle of the Sexes budget was reportedly $25 million.

Hey, if watching someone hit doesn't give you a clue about their ability to play the game ....

.. then it's you who are lacking.

You obviously have no clue that someone can look and hit much better and more consistently when reallying, than in actual match play, in a match its a completely different level.

So what's the resemblance?
The resemblance is that you have an image of yourself at odds with reality. You talk of how good you are but never actually play when the opportunity/challenge is there. Talking about the look on people’s faces when “someone your age” triumphantly storms the senior championships—they’re ALL your age, and much better than you. You want the credit but aren’t willing to do the work. The louder you proclaim your greatness, the less you’re believed. Your the guy on the subway no one wants to sit near, mumbling weird things.

Or a match of you (lobster hat crab walk guy) against Tlm the moonballer. He would crush you as well. You would just give up tennis basically after this thrashing.

If you play Tlm and greg Diamond??? you might just jump off a bridge and end your tennis life misery.

I would guess

Gregory vs 2good4U

And you obviously can't judge how good someone is from watching them hit.

Doesn't mean any good player worth his salt can't either.
