Can Zverev Produce A Miracle?

I predicted it in the China Open thread. Think it'll happen, although he could, and likely will, face another top 10 player en route to the title yet.

He's currently 11th in the race, but only 60 points behind 8th. Can Zverev pull off the unique feat of a place in the 8 man London field without beating a single top 10 player all year? It would cap a stellar season for the much loved prodigy.
The reason this is even possible is because we've almost never had such a pathetic lower top 10 section in the Open Era. The number of points required to be for example 9th is very small, that any top 50 player can get there real quick if he just scores a few solid results in a row.

It saddens me that Bautista Agut and Berrettini are 7th and 8th in the race. Isn’t Goffin close to top 10 as well?

It's quite an achievement to be where he is in the race with the year he has had and how much criticism he has gotten, yet he is 11th in the race and 60 Points from top 8. With the amount of bad energy that has been surrounding him all year, he is still amongst the elite. I think it's impressive and a testament of his quality as a tennis player. He certainly has more potential.

Perhaps it’s more a testament of the quality of the field, or lack thereof.

It's probably a testament to how much of an advantage going into a tournament with a high ranking/seeding is. By avoiding high quality players early Zverev has been able to accrue ranking points against lesser players before crashing out against players of quality. If he hadn't started the season ranked so high, his position in the race would be much lower without the protection seeding has given him in early rounds.

I though you were talking about a solid Grand Slam performance.

The updated rankings show Zverev is right on target. His semi final appearance last week saw him zoom up to 8th in the race, while the defeat to Tsitsipas saw him maintain his perfect record against fellow top 10 players.
