Well , Zverev as usual choked , this time at Wimbledon, despite being 2 sets to love up against inferior player( with all due respect to Fritz , whom I like as a tennis player and personality alike). In Australia he choked to Medvedev, once again he was 2 sets to love up and should have won in 4 sets tops. In France once he won the third set, he would only win 3 more games in the entire match. Lets ignore the fact, that he was robbed by umpire who did not see Carlos 's DF. However this record is not good to put it mildly. Along with Mečíř he is arguably the best player to not to win a slam I would argue , his strenghts are massive-- brutal and ridiculously consistent serve and all time backhand along with excellent movement and more or less solid ROS. His FH is a liability though, it is not a killing shot, Medvedev has exactly the same problem.
can he still vulture at least one slam? He has all the weapons to go toe to toe against Sinner or Alcaraz on almost any surface excluding grass. Djokovic is not gonna be a factor anymore and I cannot think of anyone else except those two who could pose a significant threat to Zed.
However he is 27 y.o. and time is slowly but surely running out .

Sure, imagine a world without Alcaraz, Sinner & Med. And further imagine everyone of his slam opponents look like his dearest girlfriend, that he can choke w/o consequences. All's right with the world then!

Some of the B3 titles were won over players I absolutely think he could beat.

Anderson, Cryic, Berrettini, etc...if he finds himself in a Final against a player on that level who's just happy to be there, why not?

I think the same about Tpas

I still think he may sneak one in in the next 5 years. He has the physical tools and game to win, he just hasn't been able to put it all together for the duration of a tournament which speaks to his mental fortitude.

He might be the 2001 Goran of our time

Donno for sure...

Goran won that slam because we were in a transition era between Fed and Sampras.... a vacuum.

Now there is no vacuum, Alcaraz is a young champ whose graph is rising fast.... so Zverev's time is running out quickly... I think Med and Thiem winning their slams was equivalent of Goran. Zverev too can pick it next year, but field is stronger now.

OP, what was the last username that got you banned? It's ok, you're among friends here, you can tell us.

Well he came close, still think he can do it, just needs to believe it - and that unfortunately for him is the toughest part. Pound for pound when on he is on, he can blow Novak and Daniil off the court and is more than capable of hanging with Sinner and Raz. I will hope he can get a major somehow before the window closes on him.

Wimbledon wasn’t a choke, the guy could barely move. 3rd set Fritz played a weak drop shot on BP, fully fit Zverev puts that away for a winner and probably the match.

He should be able to grab a slam. He’s playing better than ever.

Sorry, but Berrettini is a great player, whose career has been hampered by a ton of injuries

I have to disagree with you, Zed looked fine to me. But never mind. Zed has a habit of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. 2020 USO against cramping Thiem
2024 against Medvedev.
2021 AO, he was break up against Novaxx in the third and fourth.
2024 FO against Alcaraz. The list goes on

He was not. He was soooo slow. How could you say he was not injured when he couldn't move properly? He wasn't even chasing some of the worst dropshots I have seen hit by a pro player.

Of course he’s a choke expert, but he was physically compromised vs fritz. Barely running for anything on the stretch, and certainly no drop shots.

I think that Zverev can pull this off. His best shot is on clay. He came close this year at the FO(lost 5th set final). He will probably need Sinneraz to be rusty/injured to pull it off; something we've seen before. Zverev has finally recovered from that awful 2022 FO ankle injury and is back to his peak. He also seems to have worked out his service yips as well.

I think he'll bag a slam title before he retires. He's got time and he's dialed in right now.

Any player that good who absolutely should have won a Slam by now and is 27 can still do it. The alternative is possibly being the best player to have not won a Slam, and there are fewer players in that potential category than there are one Slam or even a couple of Slam winners - logically you just think it has to happen for him sometime. I just hope it doesn’t, that would be much more fun

If I had to guess I’d (still) say no. But if he gets an easy draw and manage to avoid Alcaraz and Sinner, or Medvedev at AO and USO, then maybe. But there are a number of unknown factors that might very well make it even more complicated for him, players like Draper and Lehecka could make further progress for example and Rune is still there lurking with his (yet unfulfilled) talent.

He's been in two finals and I expect him to add at least one more to his resume.

Will he actually win a final? If the stars align and he gets a MaliVai Washington level player, yes, otherwise I suspect not.
