    Canas Announced as Alternate

Argentine Guillermo Canas, who jumped from No. 274 at the end of last year to No. 11 in the current INDESIT ATP Entry Rankings, was named alternate Friday for the season-ending Tennis Masters Cup.

The 26-year-old Buenos Aires native was informed of his position after No. 8 Andre Agassi (hip) and No. 9 David
Nalbandian (knee) told tournament officials on Friday they would not be able to serve as an alternate due to injuries.

Canas, who was sidelined for nearly eight months last year due to a hand injury, compiled his best season in 2004, capturing three ATP titles (Stuttgart, Umag, Shanghai) in four finals and reaching a career-high INDESIT ATP Entry Ranking of No. 11.

Canas is guaranteed $50,000 for serving as alternate during the week.

Yep he really deserves this. I think that he may be able to play some matches aswell with the poor fitness of Federer, Coria and Moya.

If one can't finish then he can play and I can't think of a player that deserves it more this year
