I'm confused as to which cap grommets (sold by Tennis Warehouse) would be suitable to use for classic Head racquets, such as the Graphite Pro, Comp Pro, Graphite TXE and Graphite Tour.

TW have a large number of Head grommet sets, but they don't specify whether they are cap grommets or ordinary ones..

I've read the big thread on cap grommets and how to instal them, but I still don't really know which TW sets to buy.

Help, please? :)

The CAP gromments are the Youtek/microgel Prestige mid. These will fir the pro series rackets. They will not fit the TXE or Graphite Tour.

I hope that helps

the i.Prestige Mid grommets are CAPs as well, but slightly lighter as they end a bit earlier than the full CAPs. About 2 inches shorter on each side.

If it is a blue Graphite Tour 600, CAPs will fit. It is a Prestige mold. If it is the silver or black Graphite Tour with 75 sq.in like head size they won't. CAPs only fit 89.5 sq.in Prestige or Graphite Pro mold.:)

The old Head mid frames and (sometimes called) mid+ frames always take the Prestige mid CAP grommets.

If you have a question on whether they will work, overlay your racquet on top of the Graphite Pro and if the head size and drill pattern match, they will most likely work.

Thanks everyone. So the Youtek/microgel Prestige mid is the one to buy from TW?

They will not fit the TXE or Graphite Tour.
Is there a cap grommet set that will fit these sticks?

I wonder why those Head classics I have just have ordinary grommet strips? Did they just not get replaced with cap grommets when restrung?

C.A.P. Grommets started in 1986 with the Prestige Pro/TXP. The Prestige Mid (600cm2) line was the racquet to have full length C.A.P. Grommets. The C.A.P. Grommets are the clam shell style grommets.
For a short period HEAD put a version of it on few racquets like the Elite Pro, Elektra Pro, Graphite Pro 600 TF, Comp Pro 600 TF, Elite Pro 600 TF, Elektra Pro 600 TF, Elite Master 660 TF, Elekrta Master 660 TF, Graphite Master 660 TF, Comp Master 660 TF, and Prestige Master. These list of racquet only had C.A.P. at the very top of the hoop of the racquet like a Bumper Guard. Below is a example of this.

Racquets from the Edge Series will not fit C.A.P. Grommets and have a smaller head than the Pro Series.

On the Pro Series that you can force C.A.P. Grommet on like the Graphite Pro. I would trim off the C.A.P. Grommets to maintain the weight and balance of the frame. The S.E., Graphite, Comp, Comfort, and ETC.... Pro series Mold frames were not originally intended for C.A.P. Grommets and had traditional style grommets. Also frames like the EU Market Graphite Pro had the built in bumper guards so if you put the C.A.P. system grommets on it you are really messing up originally weight and balance of the frames. So you can use the C.A.P. grommets if you have no other grommets for you old Pro Series frames but I would trim the C.A.P. grommets to maintain the original look and intended weight of these frames.

Not quite. It has a different drill pattern - therefore incompatible with the CAPS for the other 18x20 "Prestige" Mids.

I see, I have a Trisys 270 here that I have decided to CAP for the next string job- now it can't be done anymore.:( The Trisys 270 is the GT600 right? I didn't notice the drill pattern, but at a mild glance I thought it looks almost the same as a Prestige mold. It looks like the connection between head and throat is slightly different with a Prestige too.

Correct, the Trisys 270 was the North American name for the Graphite Tour 600, and indeed, there are subtle differences between this frame and the rest of the Prestige mids, and one not-so-subtle difference - the throat vibration dampeners.

Yes, I kind of liked the throat dampeners- they look unique and kind of cool, although I'm not too bothered about their actual effects.:)
