Carl Alcaraz withdraws from Cincinnatti

Honestly if he returns it should be when he’s 100%. I don’t expect him to play the us open.. if anything maybe he returns to the tour to play 500 and 1000 when truly ready to gear up for AO27.
My guess is the wrist isn’t 100% to strength. And probably some concern of him injuring it again coming back early.
He should start from some small tournament where big name are not playing. .
Testing his wrist in real time match condition is only way to know that he is completely fit.
Directly joining USO without any preparation or testing is not advisable.
Maybe he is not feeling the power he used to generate thats why the delay

Seems obvious that the practice was enough of a test for him to know he's not ready for matches.
Nah man. Why bother with the obvious when the convoluted is on offer.
That said, it hasn't been specified what the issues are, and this adds to the penchant for conjecture and drivel. What is clear he isn't returning to the tour yet, and it is uncertain when he will. Miss the dude's presence, wish him better from the injury and hope he keeps a positive attitude in what must be a disappointing turn of events.

Y'all we really don't need to go crazy. Even if the injury makes his forehand a 8/10 instead of a 10/10, his game is not built solely around being a hard hitter like Thiem or Delpo. His thing is being Neo-federer with the unpredictability and variance, AND being able to blast big winners if needed. His game just won't suffer as much. I don't know if that will mean he'll be unbeatable like before, but it's not the same situation. Let's just wait and see.

While somewhat true, Alcaraz’s FH going from a 10/10 (not sure it is) to an 8/10 means he’s no longer Alcaraz because that shot allows him to play the rest of his game.

That fearhand opens up the whole court for the rest of his offense.

Unfortunate…alas it’s life

Told ya.

You didn't listen. You said his wrist was just inflamed and all he needed was a little rent boy time in Ibiza.

Well, guess what? Chicken butt. He's probably out for the year.
Alcaraz is still 3rd in the Race to Turin (has has earned the 3rd most points (3,650) this calendar year) Just think that's an interesting bit of trivia

And he will likely qualify for the YEC if he doesn't play another match the rest of the year.
  • The final eighth spot is prioritized for a current-year Grand Slam champion, but only if that major winner is ranked between 8th and 20th in the race standings. [1, 2]

Fair, good point. I think we'll see how the fh comes back, and it's going to take a few matches for that to be assessed. as long as its enough to open the court, its enough.

That being said, I really think the withdrawal is a matter of conditioning, more than anything else.

Razwagon is still convinced he will win USO.
You will be convinced Alcaraz wins the USO too. Everybody will be convinced, eventually.
You just got sucked in by Alcaraz withdrawing from Cincy.
He continues to train and with full power forehands, he's coming for Italian blood (if the Italian even shows up).

Cincinati is good place to really test out how his wrist will respond .
Yes whenever I think about good places to test a wrist after an injury and 3 months away from tennis, the slow courts of Cincinnati where everyone isn’t hitting winners and fast serves and where you have plenty of time and are never late to any balls and where the field is pretty weak because the players are only playing for a few thousand $ and few ranking points, always comes to mind.

Alcaraz is less injury-prone than Nadal, that is for certain.
And his body holds up to best-of-5-sets better than anyone, 15-1 in 5-setters.
Plus he doesn't rush his comebacks, whereas Nadal played when he was injured too often (he should have sat-out 2009).
Time will tell, Super Garfia.

Reminder that Thiem's BH and speed didn't suffer at all after he came back. It was entirely his confidence in his FH - even if his wrist healed completely, his confidence in it never did.

He had 90% of his game intact, but that remaining 10% took him from #3 to #300.

The margins are smaller for these guys than we often realizer.

You cannot reason with some of the worst Alcaraz worshipers. Either Alcaraz is still dealing with wrist issues, or he's ducking something else...

...in any case., a certain member relentlessly decievied himself into believing Alcaraz was going to win, and uses it as his screenname. Instead, and until further notice, it should be changed to:

Are we going to make a new thread every time he announces he’s not playing a tournament? Or fail announcing his comeback in the same fashion we’ve always done?

I wonder if it isn’t in response to Sinner, they’re both pulling a Novak and saving themselves as much as possible for USO.

“Saving” is a nice word for what they are doing

I got banned for talking about this so that’s all I will say, but I think they will both be back in fine form for USO and maybe sporting their own lines and logos.

If I had a nickel for every time I have to bump this…

If I had a nickel for every time I have to bump this…

That post would make sense if it was about Sinner who peaked in 2024 and has declined at hardcourt slams since...
Alcaraz has just started his prime on hardcourts, and nobody can beat him at the AO and USO, and we'll see that again very soon as he prepares for Winston-Salem.
Sinner hasn't won a hardcourt slam since January 2025.
Alcaraz won the 2025 US Open and 2026 AO, and beat Sinner at the US Open, and beat Djokovic at the US Open and Australian Open.
