Carlos Alcaraz News

I am concerned with his on court arrogance. Its been an issue for a while now, has cost him numerous big titles (last years USO, this years AO and Olympics) where he has underestimated his opponent despite them being top 5 players.
If he knuckled down and focussed on being a cold blooded winning machine he definitely could roast everyone on tour as his actual ability is light years ahead of the rest of the tour. The problem is he seems to know that and too often takes liberties.
So if he loses, it’s because he’s arrogant? Not because he didn’t play well enough to win. And he underestimates Djokovic and Zverev? What a lot of nonsense.
If he was able to deliver his best level throughout a match, then he would. He’s not a machine! He’s a very young man who is confident in his ability but is still learning. Two of the big 3 didn’t have four slams at his age.

Too much showboating during matches.

............Resulting in terrible outcomes. Oh dear maybe if he didn’t have a personality things would be so much better.
Nah man. Get that you're being tongue in cheek, but want to say the kid's personality rocks. Dude exudes creativity and makes magic when his game flows. Hope he stays himself. Kid is just amazing.

And here's another interesting Carlitos fact - he's one of only 4 players not to lose in the first round of a major. Obviously his is a young career, but it is still impressive:

Lol yes, I was being sarcastic. His personality is sunshine!

Thats a very naive post and suggests you do not watch Carlos as much as i do. His principal problem is wrong shot at wrong time, usually because he wants a highlight reel moment. 40-15 is fine doing that..30-40 less so

Man, cool it down. You speak as though you know. which is arrogant and naive. You don't know what Carlitos or anyone else thinks. Carlitos is on a huge learning curve, as most youngsters are. The best players adapt and try to enhance their skills as they go - hopefully, Carlitos will too.

I watch every match he plays fyi.
That isn’t my perception and just because you say something doesn’t make it so. I’m not sure how you can know what he wants as you aren’t a mind reader. Perhaps listen to him explain his play.

Im an Alcaraz fan, for me easily the greatest player at his age of all time, nobody comes close, but i feel he should already be on a Golden Career Slam and this year should now be going for a Golden Calendar Slam and he threw it away by being too complacent against world class players.
I get he is young, but i have always taken the view live for now, and that means take every opportunity that presents itself as nobody knows what is round the corner. I want him to achieve his goals when at his best, not go onto nearly 40 trying to make up for lost opportunities, as although no doubt he probably has the natural talent to set records 20 years from now, id prefer him to do that in his peak years, and that means maximising every opportunity that comes his way, just like Rafa did. Rafa will never have any regrets as every match he left it all out there and never underestimated anyone.
Hope that makes sense, hard to do when writing to be honest.

Yes it does make sense to me. I’m afraid you can’t put a wise head on young shoulders. Everyone learns as they gain experience. He learns fast but you’ll be a happier fan if you manage expectations.

I’ve recorded it as it was on the middle of the night here but inadvertently saw the score online from an alert. Save me bothering. ….what was wrong with him? That’s a shocking result!
Man, the kid simply had no foothold, no 'connection' as he said recently. Botic can play well, but he took his chances very well, and when it was clear that Carlitos wasn't feeling his game, he took full advantage and dominated. I like his demeanour - understated and focused.

My take is that Carlitos is burnt out. It takes enormous emotional / physical energy to compete at any level, but my assessment is that at this level, after the fitness issues for much of the first part of the year, the energy expended at the FO/ Wimbly / Olympics ( singles and dubs) has had a substantial impact. Kid needs to rest. He says as much in his presser, which also gives an insight into how he was battling himself as well as Botic in the match.

Shocking result, yes, but another learning curve. As Carlitos says, if he wants to compete at the top, he has to handle his emotions / glitches. Wishing him the very best in doing so.

His presser was informative:

Not very happy at the moment!! This is woeful tonight
True man, get your feelings. Watching Carlitos like this was painful. Your thesis that he should focus on getting the job done, resonated when I listened to the presser - he says (to the effect of) learning to deal with the emotions, with the down swings in a match is needed. The development of a great player must include the burnishing that can only be achieved via dealing with the trials and tribulations of losses, as well as the inspiration gained by the successes. The higher Carlitos (any player) climbs, the harder the fall if there is a lapse. Not easy to navigate-whether by Carlitos or us fans, but part of the journey.

Really like the kid - to be this candid and composed in his presser and analyze what is needed after such a loss is remarkable. Hope he gets lots of hugs, kisses and a good rest.

Do we go around other news threads and do hehe ya boy lose posting when they lose? I'm not too familiar with the culture here. Please explain.

Is it newsworthy that the #3 seed, multi-grand slam, yada yada yada, lost to a 28-year old whose career high is #22, currently #74, and hasn't won a title?

I'm trying to keep the thread balanced otherwise it isn't news it's propaganda.
If you propose changing the thread title to "Carlos Alcaraz Propaganda" then I'll go away.
You’ve entered this thread to mock, and when no one replied to you, you then doubled down. The News threads are for fans not trolls.
There is a thread on whether Alcaraz is in a slump on the forum - take your digs there.

Thanks for the reply. I’d agree, he sounds as though he’s worn out and needs time to reset.

He needs a woman in the stands supporting him.
All the other players have one. Tommy Paul has the social media influencer bimbo.
Who does he have? He is lonely.
Maybe. What is certain is that he’s not in a good place right now but he does have plenty of support to work things through.

He was showboating 1st set, far too relaxed, got burned 6-1 and Botic then got confidence and it became a grind and Carlos wasnt prepared to fight he kept bailing out of rallies.
I am very concerned at this trend of his about not fighting when he isnt playing well. His A game is the best on tour, but when he is off his game, he seems unwilling to scrap

Hmmm. Maybe he’s impatient by nature; unwilling to settle for keeping the ball in play and rather rushing to finish off points with what he knows are the skills he has when he’s on. Then he goes for low percentage shots too much as he has said he feels it’s better to go for it than not.
There’s also what you could argue is a pattern here. He takes losses in big matches hard - like the Cincy final when he held championship points, leaving him in tears at the end. The tears appeared again for the first time since then in the gold medal match a few weeks back. Again a tight loss that could have gone his way. Both times he’s gone into a slump. He isn’t dealing with the disappointment efficiently no matter what he says, and he loses confidence in himself thereafter.

No Davis Cup at least please.

He's going to be running on fumes by the time he competes in Turin.

Davis Cup starts tomorrow, with Spain hosting Group B in Valencia. Carlitos expected to play this week.

Carlitos was enabled to play the title winning match by Sasha Zverev's win over Tiafoe today at the Laver Cup. Enjoyed the LC this year, weekend of tennis, and the insights into the players assessments.

Alcaraz looked unstoppable the last few weeks. Just awe inspiring, like you are watching greatness build and blossom.

I will say though, Watch Alcaraz/Ruud play doubles was an exceptional treat.
Yah, man. Nice comment. Hope Carlitos can enjoy his remaining tournaments this season.

He's playing Beijing next, his potential draw:

R1: Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard
R2: Tallon Griekspoor/Miomir Kecmanovic
QF: Karen Khachanov
SF: Daniil Medvedev
F: Jannik Sinner/Grigor Dimitrov
