Alcaraz looked unstoppable the last few weeks. Just awe inspiring, like you are watching greatness build and blossom.

I will say though, Watch Alcaraz/Ruud play doubles was an exceptional treat.
The most impressive part was how Carlos lifted up Ruud with his positivity and they both ended up playing great and having a lot of fun. Good leadership skills!

Quite the opposite of the day before when Ruud patterned with Stef, bad play and bad mood.

Spot on. I was thinking exactly the same thing. I think Stef was struggling and Ruud was feeling it, but with Alcaraz's energy he thrived. it was truly amazing to watch the difference attitude and communication makes.

Carlitos / Coco having fun - heh, heh, those outfits .........

The Sampras sky slam to take the first was awesome! Kid is feeling it.

I will give a shout out to Karen. He's been playing some great tennis the last year + now.

Carlitos takes the title at the China Open, beating Jannik in a close match. He is now 3-0 against Jannik this year. This is his 4th title this year so far and with it, he achieves a 500 series win on all 3 surfaces; is the youngest player to win the title.

Alcaraz played with intent this week, the time at Laver Cup allowed him to bounce back from his Olympics loss. He is now over the emotional bump in the road, and back to business. He also needed to get back into the winner's circle, and beating his biggest rival for a title is the best way forward for him.

This photo said it all, he was going to win!

Ps. Sinner would look ridiculous if he wore it.

True man. Kid needed some time out from the treadmill, and playing Davis Cup / Laver Cup did him good, especially Laver Cup with the camaraderie/fun. He has spoken about the need to enjoy his time on court in order to play his best and it looks as though he's feeling good out there. This win will add to it for sure. Hope Carlitos can keep the momentum going.

Carlos Alcaraz says he 'got the joy back' after dramatic Beijing title win

"Probably after the American swing, I was a little bit down," he said in Beijing, his trophy sitting in front of him.

"I didn't want to touch a racquet for a while. I didn't want to travel."

He credited his coaching team with helping to drag him back to his old self.

"After that we talked a lot during those days, knowing that I have to be back practising, be stronger physically, be stronger mentally just to overcome problems.

"The last month we've been working really, really hard on the court, off the court, just to be able to feel this moment again."

His coach Juan Carlos Ferrero was in tears at the end and Alcaraz said it showed what it meant to him and his team.

"Thanks to them I started to get the joy back playing the matches, practising, I got motivated again," said Alcaraz.

"I really wanted to travel, to play tournaments again."

Carlitos has started his Shanghai campaign with a 62,62 win over Shang. Hoping he continues play well.
I like Shang - kid seems to enjoy his tennis.

He's gone from having a Sinner FH to Alcaraz FH real quick.
Man, the kid is a fine talent. Hope he can follow Carlitos, and do well.

Edit: And...... Carlitos beats Holger in straights, displaying some superb form. He looked happy to be out playing again. Neymar had been watching & came down to the Court to meet Carlitos. Kid has fun, crowds happy too.

This comment by Par Cash caught my eye. Another 'pundit' to say they've never seen anything like Carlitos' game before.

I think they are honest.

Fed may be more complete player at his peak but he was not at 21. Carlos is 21.

The ingenuity he shows is incredible. And he can do it because he has hands like Fed but then he has speed like Nadal. Fed didn't have ungodly speed no matter what people will tell on this board that young Fed was speedy gonzalez. It's just not true.

No, but Fed did have impeccable footwork, which is what made him so good.

The Paris Masters 2024 draw is out and apparently, Carlitos has the following projected route to the title, all being well:
  • First round: Bye
  • Second round: Jarry or qualifier
  • Round of 16: Humbert (15) or Nakashima
  • Quarter-finals: Ruud (7) or Paul (11)
  • Semi-finals: Medvedev (4) or Dimitrov (8)
  • Final: Sinner (1) or Zverev (3)
From what I understand, kid should play in round of 32 on Tuesday 29th October.

Interesting take on Carlitos' achievements this year, if this is a reliable source:

Carlitos' Paris Masters campaign off to a good start with a 75/61 win over Jarry.

Alcaraz had an amazing year:

Two major titles - a Channel Slam to boot
Silver medal at the Olympics - youngest finalist
Three quarters of the way to the the Career Slam
First player to win ATP 500 singles titles on three different surfaces
No official losses to rival Jannik Sinner

Predictions for 2025?

Yep, great year. 1-2 slams again in 2025.

Sinner and maybe Novak get the others.

Predictions for 2025?
Very possible 0 slams
Sinner will be at his peak, Zverev is playing the tennis of his life, Novak returns motivated to the tour, Medvedev will seek revenge
RG will be the best chance for a slam, Wimbledon is far less, anyone can beat him on hard so I don't give him much chance.

In short
0-1 slams
2-3 masters
5-6 trophies at the end of the season and top 3

Man, it's that time of year again, seems so soon. Reflecting on the season gone and the one coming, seems appropriate. Carlitos has had a challenging end of year -going out in the quarters in Shanghai and early in Paris / WTF and in quaters at the Davis Cup.
Having been under the weather with breathing issues in Turin, he looked tired in Malaga. I don't think he would have played the DC had it not been for Rafa.

Carlitos beat Griekspoor to win the 2nd singles match of the tie with Netherlands in the DC, Some highlights:

Celebrating the superb achievements by Carlitos in 2024, starting with his 4 title wins. It is simply staggering to note the following:

- In March 2024, still aged only 20, Carlitos successfully defended his 3rd title ATP title by winning Indian Wells.
-. By winning the FO, he became the youngest ever player to win a slam on all 3 surfaces
- By winning Wimbledon, he became the 2nd player ( after Roger Federer) to win his first 4 GS finals
- By winning Wimbledon he became the youngest player to win the Channel slam, joining the illustrious list of Rod Laver, Bjorn Borg, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in winning as the 6th player to ever achive the Channel Slam.
- He defended his 4th title by winning Wimbledon. In doing so, he added defending a GS title to his existing achievement of defending 2 Masters 1000 titles and an ATP 500 title.
- By winning Wimbledon, Carlitos equals the record of 4 GS wins at under the age of 22
- By winning Wimbledon, he becomes the 3rd man to win multiple Wimbledons before the age of 22
- By successfully defending Wimbledon he becomes the 9th man to do so
- By winning Beijing, Carlitos became the first player in the series history (since 2009) to win a 500 title on all 3 surfaces

I'll add the Olympic Silver medal win here too, as another excellent achievement,

I suspect that Carlitos will be disappointed with some of his results this year, but hopefully he'll note his achievements and be inspired to do even better next season.

Carlos has been able to get away so far peaking for the rg and wimby slams, and playing the big points well. Beating Novak twice in wimby finals, and going unbeaten vs sinner this year clearly demonstrates that,
full credit to him. But he will know better than anyone else that he has to become more consistent. Sinner is improving and won't always let Alcaraz get by with a few peak passages of play in a match.

The 4 title wins this year add to an overall tally of 16 ATP titles in his career to date, aged 21.

1. Indian Wells – successfully defending his title.

He beat Zverev in the qf/Sinner in the sf and Medvedev in the final.

Yah man, as you say, Carlitos will be at least as aware as any of us that the challenges for improvement remain. However, celebrating his achievements is a separate issue, and that is what I am doing. What will be is a matter for the future. Wishing him well for attempting to navigate the challenges.

On the topic of celebrating, I'd like to include the Laver Cup win too when Carlitos played superbly, enjoyed himself and was instrumental in Team Europe taking the trophy again.

It is a bit dull to post a table but useful to anchor your thoughts. The underlying point haul has improved as the dominance ratio, some depends also on the share of surfaces. So the eye test and basic stats indicate that he is still improving - like even a 'normal' 21 year old would.

His Elo value was off the charts in the first two years compared to his age group and has plateaued a bit, third time third in year end Elo ranking. Looking at some stats and results I do think that the tour knows now more about how to play against him. All part of the normal process of life on tour and he has all the tools to adapt and overcome. Still won two slams and that silver medal.

Thanks man, Rovesciarete. An interesting evaluation - this year has certainly been a challenging one at times, as well as a brilliant one at times. Finding a more consistent level is a key challenge, and it will be fascinating to see how this might arise next season.

Please, Tallawah Tennis and it will be intriguing to observe and track Carlos. I find it quite fascinating that initially Alcaraz and Nadal showed a similar growth curve, outdistancing the three guys from the Alps and the Balkans. Both were precocious and enjoyed a physical edge with was however dulled by the later athletic growth of the others.

Just a simple thought, one should not read too much into it.

..............Just a simple thought, one should not read too much into it.
Heh, heh - enjoy your reasoning / observations. Given the uncertainties, reading too much into anything seems inappropriate. My thought relates to age, and the effect of it on development / the learning curve that has to be navigated in a career. I believe Carlitos is younger than the rest of his nearest rivals, so he has the benefit of a bit more time whilst settling into his best form. Interesting you mention Rafa - he astounded many by remaining successful for such a long time. I'll enjoy watching how things go, with your presence / observations in the coming season. :)

Yeah, it will be a pleasure, but I will have less time next year. Credit for this graph goes to El Dude, who uses a different database, but still works against the other players. Interestingly, Nadal also hit a jagged Elo plateau but then kept improving over the years.

You can see how during clay season Rafa raced to new heights to fall off again. The others, Alcaraz included, don't have a similar pattern.
