Carlos Alcaraz News

Should be spectacular, I'm just a bit worried about his team busying his schedule.
True, man. Energy / form issues are of concern regarding tour level competition - perhaps not for these events, which are likely to be for fun.

Not sure how reliable this information is regarding the potential draw for the AO 2025:

Carlos Alcaraz does not change his winning habits and confirms his presence at the Queen's Club for the 2025 edition. The English tournament, which the Spaniard won in 2023, was officially announced on social media as a fixed stop in the Murcian's calendar.

The world number three has shown over the last two years that the grass season can be a very successful moment in his season. Queen's, in particular, proved to be an excellent launching pad towards Wimbledon.

The confirmation of participation in Queen's 2025 demonstrates how Alcaraz is a player who favors consolidated routines: when a formula works, there is no point in changing it.

Yes - Carlitos keeping to prep for Wimbly by playing Queens in 2025:

One of the promising current youngsters - Henrique Rocha - talks of Carlitos' influence:

An important change in the team of Carlos Alcaraz: Samuel López, just separated from Pablo Carreño after nine years, was appointed second coach of the Spanish champion. As Marca reports, López will join Juan Carlos Ferrero at the Ferrero Tennis Academy, consolidating a collaboration already experienced in the past.
López is not a new face in Alcaraz's entourage, having already accompanied the Murcian in several tournaments: Miami 2022, the last two Queen's tournaments and the Australian Open. His official debut in the new role is scheduled for the ATP Rotterdam 2025, scheduled for early February.

In the meantime, the first confirmations for the 2025 Laver Cup arrive. Alcaraz himself announced his participation, eager to repeat the positive experience of 2024 and contribute to a new victory for Team Europe. On the opposite front, the tournament co-founded by Roger Federer has already made official the presence of Taylor Fritz for Team World.

2024 ends with a significant record for Carlos Alcaraz, confirming his extraordinary consistency at the highest level on the ATP circuit. The Spanish champion wrote an important page by becoming the only player to maintain a position in the world top-3 in the last three seasons, a feat that underlines his incredible regularity.

Alcaraz's trajectory over the past three years tells a story of consistent excellence:
– 2022: ends the year as world number 1
– 2023: ends the season in second place
– 2024: finishes as number 3 in the ATP ranking

Even more impressive is the fact that Alcaraz is the only tennis player to have remained consistently in the top-5 during this period, a fact that highlights how in the modern era of tennis, characterized by intense competitiveness, maintaining top positions for such a long period has become increasingly difficult.

This statistic takes on even greater value considering Alcaraz's age and level of competition on the ATP circuit. The Spanish phenomenon has demonstrated not only that he can reach the top of world tennis, but also that he knows how to constantly maintain himself at the highest levels, a quality that distinguishes great champions.

Some trivia - thoroughly enjoyed the Garden Cup exho in NY last night, in which Carlitos played Ben Shelton, and Jessica Pegula played Emma Navarro. I only watched the dudes, who seemed to have fun in front of a packed house. Carlitos won the deciding tiebreak.

Attending the NBA game with Ben:

Carlitos plays the Charlotte Invitational against Frances Tiafoe on the 06.12.2024 before heading back home.

With the trivia/exhibitions out of the way, Carlitos is apparently training for the coming season.

Another coach has been appointed - Samuel Lopez, until recently the coach of Pablo Carreno Busta. I've seen Samuel in Carlitos' box before this - they have a pre-existing relationship. Samuel was Juan Carlos' former coach.

An article I liked regarding the opening by Carlitos of an exhibition in his home town via his charitable foundation.

Carlos Alcaraz surprised everyone by announcing that he will participate in the ATP 500 Tokyo 2025 instead of defending his title in Beijing. An unexpected choice, considering that the Chinese tournament usually offers a more substantial prize pool to attract the stars of the circuit.

Carlitos won his first title of 2025 in Rotterdam today, and made yet more records. Dude has now won a title on all 3 surfaces and indoors. Apparently, he is the youngest ATP player to have achieved this feat.

Carlitos is in Doha to prep for the event. Potentially challenging draw, hope the kid plsays well:

R1: Marin Cilic
R2: Zhizhen Zhang
R3: Grigor Dimitrov/Jiri Lehecka
SF: Novak Djokovic
F: Alex De Miñaur/Stefanos Tsitsipas/Daniil Medvedev

Round 1 completed, Carlitos through in straights against Cilic :

Carlitos enjoying his campaign at Indian Wells thus far, kid likes it here. Hoping he can defend his title.

He is through to R 16, having had a bye, beating Halys in straights in R2 and Shaps in straights in R3. Plays Grigor in R4. Dude's potential opponents for the qf if he gets past Grigor are Cerundolo or ADM.

Highlights of his win over Halys: https://www.atptour.com/en/video/hi...fast-start-to-indian-wells-title-defence-2025

And the win over Shaps: https://www.atptour.com/en/news/alcaraz-shapovalov-indian-wells-2025-monday

Enjoyed this winner in this match: https://x.com/josemorgado/status/1899273470325686380?ref_src=twsrc^google|twcamp^serp|twgr^tweet

Carlitos through to the sf, beating Cerundolo in a well contested 2 sets. He'll need to be sharp against Draper in the sf. This is his 4th consecutive entry to the sf at IW. Apparently, dude is in excellent company!

A summary of the qf:

Carlitos couldn't get past Draper in the sf at IW, but he provided his adversary with a tasty bagel in the 2nd set! Good win by JD - another excellent player has arrived on the scene to share the spoils, it seems.

Moving on, apparently this could be the draw for Carlitos at Miami:

Possible draw for Carlos Alcaraz at the 2025 Miami Open:

1R-Bye
2R-Goffin/Vukic
3R-Nakashika/Carballés/Qualy
4R-Dimitrov/Khachanov
CF-Paul/Ruud/Cerúndolo
SF-Djokovic/Medvedev/Tsitsipas
F-Draper/Zverev/Rublev/Fritz/Shelton/De Miñaur/Rune

Hoping Carlitos can remain focused after the IW loss, and play well.

I think Alcaraz will bounce back just fine. He was due a loss in the desert, winning three in a row is a very rare feat, that only two others have done. I don't know if he can win Miami, he clearly has the game for it, since he has won it before, but I do expect to move on very quickly. Clay season is almost upon us, and that is where he will shine the most.

Baelos out to a clown smh.

Can Alcaraz's star shine again?
Man, hope the dude can bring some magic soon, wish him well as he tries to do so.
As MC approaches, here is Carlitos' likely draw:

1R-Bye
2R-Cerúndolo/Fognini
3R-Aliassime/Arnaldi
QF-Rublev/Fils/Monfils
SF-Ruud/Shelton/Draper
F-Zverev/Djokovic/Medvedev/Tsitsipas/Rune

More records made by Carlitos:

Alcaraz on clay: 100 matches and a legacy of greatness

Spaniard boasts the largest winning percentage of active players on the surface
April 10, 2025

Dude is through to the sf after an entertaining qf against Fils. He'll play ADF in the sf. Other than Cerundolo and Fils, none of the players initially proposed as likely opponents made it through, and if Carlitos makes it to the final, he'll face either Musetti or ADM.

If Alcaraz can win this, the momentum for the clay swing will be strong, and it really makes the Sinner return that much more interesting.

2024 Alcaraz was 15-4 heading into the Euro clay season (exactly the same record as 2025), and the only event he played was Madrid (which he lost in the QF to Rublev), so I don't think Alcaraz needs to peak to win Roland Garros :giggle:
Alcaraz really just has to be healthy at Roland Garros/Wimbledon and he wins them (y)
Sinner has no self-belief vs. Alcaraz, 0-3 in 2024 (including 0-2 on hardcourt) so we can forget about that one-dimensional idiot, whether he's banned or not (n)

Would 1 think Alcaraz is peaking at the right time?

Especially since Alcaraz has FO and W to defend

I wouldn't saying peak just yet, he was very close to going out to Fils. But mentally he seems stronger having returned back to clay, so what I can say is, he is taking a step in the right direction.

A MC win would be absolutely perfect start for him, give him the confidence and allow him to feel like the guy to beat on clay heading into RG. Right now Alcaraz hasn't won a big title since Wimbledon, its been Sinner's world, so this brings him right back into the mix.

Nice follow up to the qf win:

As for what is likely to transpire, who knows. Carlitos will be more aware than anyone of what is required in order to achieve more success. Hope he can enjoy his tennis whilst navigating the road to success. To start with, let's see how he does in the sf against ADF today!

Carlitos through to the final in MC,76,64. Took the scenic route in my view, but got there in straights.

Some clips:

The match win article on the ATP site:

MONTE CARLITOS!!! Dude won his 18th ATP titles today, his 6th Masters 1000! Hopefully, a boost for him and a conduit to excellent further results this season. Looking forward to his endeavours.
Lorenzo Musetti sustained an injury unfortunately and could not contest the 3rd set meaningfully. This is nevertheless a superb outcome for Carlitos, hopefully the first of many more,

NEXT STOP - ATP 500 BARCELONA - https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/current/barcelona/425/draws

Carlitos has won here twice previously, and is playing the qualifier Ethan Quinn from USA tomorrow in R32. Hope it's a good match.

Edit to add that Carlitos is in the qf. Will play ADM - likely to be well contested.

Meanwhile, just saw this clip on the ATP site - nice montage:

What specific role does Samuel López play within Alcaraz' coaching team, and how does he contribute to the overall setup?
Additionally, how would you evaluate his experiences and qualities he brings to the table?
