There's nothing star like about most tennis players.
The most we can hope for is a bit of personality, maybe some charisma. Alcaraz may have the first one, the personality, but I don't feel any charisma, but he's very young and maybe that quality will come out. Very very few players have it.

Can you explain how you define the difference between those two attributes (personality and charisma)?

I see personality as something everyone has and charisma as a SPECIAL personality and when a person shows it extrovertedly.

But you seemingly used personality as something not everyone has, so it already has to be something special I guess. But what is charisma then? What is the increase from having personality to having charisma according to that definition?

I think everyone has personality, sorry if I came across as not doing so as I respect the most reserved of personalities being reserved myself. By 'bit of' I meant something more forthcoming and open that the average person. By charisma, I think that is something natural, a gift even. Something in someone that just makes them attractive without any work on their part. See my avatar for reference. I don't know if I cleared things up there but that's as far as I can go intellectually on this as I don't really know what the difference between them in a dictionary or scientific respect.

Don’t worry, I just asked out of interest, not as an accusation or something like that. I know some people ask such things as rhetorical questions with some passive aggression, but this is absolutely not my intention and discussion style.

And yes, I know what you mean, despite I never really was receptive for the concept of “being attracted for no explainable reason” myself. This always was a very rare and weak feeling for me, even in my youth.

Yeah I sometimes read over what I post and think I didn't really think what I was saying there through. I like Alcaraz though. He's an interesting prospect. Must be great for him to have JCF as a coach. Now that was a reserved guy but with real confidence.

Under the radar this week, but into the SFs (of the challenger he's playing this week) and two wins away from breaking into the top 100 for the first time. Likely will be the #1 or #2 seed in qualifying next week in Roland Garros. Hopefully the ranking adjustment will be in time to gain automatic entry into Wimbledon.

My hope is that he has great coaching and continues to strive to get better and better. I really hope he does become a big star because I really really like him and enjoy watching him play! All of the great players take about 4-5 years to develop so I will be watching him over that time and wishing him the best!

^^^ATPMediaInfo probably had a similar release for Jannik Sinner about a year and a half ago. He was born 16 August 2001. On Sunday 20 October 2019 he reached World Ranking #93 after losing SFs in Antwerp to Stan Wawrinka. That’s 18 years, 2 months and 3 days to be exact, about one month slower than JMDP and just less than two months slower than CAG.

Alcaraz is the #7 seed in qualies and has drawn veteran Lukas Lacko for his first match. The other seed in his pod is #27 Sumit Nagal.

Alcaraz should have cracked the top 100 much earlier if not for the frozen rankings joke. So the stat is kinda skewed in his case... Boy has been a top 100 player for a while now...

Hopefully he can start entering main draws soon without having to rely on WCs.

Will meet fellow qualifier and fellow Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles in the first round of the French Open following a fantastic qualifying run in the quallies. Winner faces the winner of Dusan Lajovic and #28 seed Nikoloz Basilashvili.

Would honestly fancy him to make the 3R if he keeps his level of play up. Both of those players are not clay-focused at all and looked awful in Belgrade 2 this week.

I’m surprised about Lajovic’s level, especially playing at home. It was a thoroughly different player than the M-C’19 finalist.

Basil Fawlty is a crapshoot in 2021. He has had 11 initial match losses but has won two tournaments, one each on HC and clay. His 14-13 record and two titles has probably never been achieved together.

My lens of a lot of these guys comes through analyzing them for bets, and yeah Basil is the definition of hit or miss. He won Munich on clay and I got burned betting on Ruud over him, only to turn around and literally lose to Paire. I suppose he may be a gifted tanker when not fully up for it, but I don’t even know if he’s a good clay player. Much better on hard in my eyes, but the power in his game allows high peaks and low lows.

Alcaraz in Bo5 is going to be interesting. He may be energetic but I’m not sure if he truly has the legs or mental level to dig deep in a4th or 5th set tiebreak. But he 100% has the talent for it and should not be playing quallies in the slightest, he was burned by the COVID pause as were all other youngsters.

It’s ancient history already (prior to his domestic turmoil) but Basil did win Hamburg in back to back years. Before Rublev became King of 500s the Georgian temporarily held the throne due to his Beijing crown and those two runs.

Can someone explain me why he had to play the Qualifiers at the FO this year!? I thought the first 104 ATP ranked players are fixed and afaik he was top 100 already last week?!?

When you enter the tournament, it's WAY ahead of time, I think 6 weeks but don't quote me on that. So, on the day the entries are posted, that's their ranking for entry into the two (main draw and qualifying draw) tournaments. He will also have to qually into Wimbledon. Come the US Open, he will probably not have to qualify again for a very long time.

Second match win in a major!

Will play the hot-and-cold big hitter, 28-seeded Basilashvili in R2. Who barely won any matches this clay season, but somehow spiked and won the whole thing in Munich! Also holder of the dubious record of "winning the least games against Nadal in a French Open match", with his 60 61 60 defeat in 2017.

Good that he's through. Especially after Korda going out. Need these young guys in the slams for as long as possible.

Hooray!!!! Carlos in in to the 3rd round of the French Open!!!!!

I really hope he develops his skills, stays on course and doesn't flame out the way so many of the young players full of promise have done in recent years. I hope he becomes a top player and is around for many, many, many years to come!

The #NextGenATP Spaniard upset 28th seed Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday to become the youngest man to reach the third round at this tournament since 17-year-old Andrei Medvedev in 1992. Alcaraz is also the youngest man to advance this far at Grand Slam since 17-year-old Rafael Nadal at the 2004 Australian Open.

At least he made it to the 3rd round. Disappointed he wasn't able to do better in his match with Struff today but he did get him to a tiebreak. Best wishes for him going forward!!!

One of the six wildcards for the men's singles event at this year's Wimbledon tournament has been awarded to Carlos Alcaraz. The 18-year-old Spaniard will be making his début in the main singles draw at the world's most prestigious tennis tournament.

Medvedev-Alcaraz should be an interesting 2nd round match.
He's unlikely to get to the 3rd round then but you never know... There have already been a few upsets early in this tournament!

While I expect Meddy to win the match, I have to confess I've never seen young Carlos play. How did he look in his last match? Is he as green as I would expect on grass?

Wimby’19 Boys QFist. The teen has all court skills…nice hands and an instinct to get to net for volleys.

Having just played his first five-set match and now being forced to play back-to-back days I’m not expecting much but stranger things have happened.

What is a fairly relevant fact about Alcaraz’s aptitude for grass play is he already leads countryman and former top 10 player PCB in career wins at Wimbledon. With an upset of Meddie tomorrow the kid could open up a 2-0 lead in that race.

A 6-2, 7-6(3) win by Carlos Alcaraz over his compatriot Albert Ramos late on Saturday night at the Croatian Open in Umag took the 18-year-old into his first singles final at ATP level. At one stage Alcaraz led 6-2, 3-1, but then started to have problems holding his serve against one of the sport's best retrievers.

It was clear that the 33-year-old Ramos was going to make his opponent work for the victory and that Alcaraz needed to keep believing in himself and going for his shots if he was to win. That is exactly what happened. Two shots stood out in the tiebreak that ended the match. One was a lovely single-handed backhand volley by Alcaraz early on. The other was a double fault by Ramos at 3-5, which really sealed his fate.

In today's final Alcaraz will face the veteran Frenchman Richard Gasque in a first meeting between the two players.

That seems early for Umag. Their feature matches are almost always evening sessions (kinda hot there during the day on the Croatian coast). I just checked usually reliable (for schedule at least!) LiveScore and they say 1400 EDT.

My source was wrong, I looked it up on the internet. They just finished showing his semi match on tennis channel. So it looks like it will be 2 p.m. EST. I really want Carlos to win but Gasquet is an extremely experienced player...

The Umag semis were a blast - even without any huge names. Alcaraz and all of this crazy energy and aging Gasquet still with the crazy backhand. Those were two really fun matches.

I hope they switch over to the Alcaraz-Gasquet match and don't stay with this boring women's match...
