Carreno Busta and the qualifying draw

Pablo Carreno Busta is through to round 4 having played three straight qualifiers: Evan King in round 1, Cameron Norrie in round 2, and Nicolas Mahut in round 3. In round 4, he will play a fourth qualifier: Denis Shapovalov. If PCB were to make the quarter-finals, he might face a fifth straight qualifier - Mikhail Kukushkin.

Has anyone previously made the last 16 playing only qualifiers?

Not what you asked, but I recalled Jared Palmer having a strange draw to the 16's in 95 so I looked it up. Played 2 qualifiers and a wild card.

Here's a good one: Moya at 1998 RG - beat a Wildcard and 3 qualifiers in a row to make the QF.

No wonder he was so well-rested for the Rios encounter, then. I mean, I know that his 4th round match was two games longer than Rios's against Albert Costa, but in terms of psychological energy expended, I don't think there can have been much comparison.

Kuku is gone now. Shapo will now face seeded Pouille or Dark Helmet.
