Caster wheels for Gamma X-ST stand

Bret aka Gamma Tech will hopefully be able to answer my question. I'm not in a hurry, so no big deal. Thanks dancraig, have a great weekend.

so far we have not been able to source a reasonably price caster for the small floor stands (MPXFS, MPFS2 or MPFS1).
it is actually an M6 bolt. if you can find a caster with the correct bolt size then it would be fine to use.

they look like they would work, BUT you have to find out the pitch of the threads, on the foot it is 1.0mm. i didn't see that info on the their but should be easy to get from them.

Darn, I just put in an order for the wheels. I sent them another e-mail, maybe they can halt the order if the pitch is not correct. As always, thanks for the assistance.

FYI, it is a 1.0mm pitch according to them. They are not the sturdiest looking wheels, but they are cheap, so I'll give them a whirl.

The wheels with the brake were discontinued. :( The carpet I string on is pretty thick, so I may be OK. If not, then I'll go with plan B to keep it from rolling. I'll report back once I get the wheels.

I got the wheels today and the bolt size is nowhere close to the base feet I was going to replace. Maybe they shipped the wrong item. There was no paperwork in the box, so I really can't tell. I sent them an e-mail about it. I hate to pay for return shipping on such an inexpensive item. Does anyone know if there is an adapter I could get at my local hardware store that I could put on the wheel stems to make them larger?

You probably should try and go to the hardware store first and get several different size of "M" bolts and see which one fits your stand and then see if you ordered the right size casters.

I'm sure Bret got his info right, but I don't have the same faith that the caster company had their stuff together. Hopefully I can find some kind of adapter for it.

i think right now your more confident in me than i am in myself. i goofed. the correct size is M8x15x1.25. i'm really sorry i told you the wrong size. i was guessing instead of actually measuring. i measured this time and from now on.

Put the wheels on last night and they work great. I will string a racket this weekend so hopefully the lack of a brake on the wheels is not an issue.

Just curious if you ordered new casters and if so what was the actual and correct size of the bolt used?

Or did you find an adapter to go from the wrong size to the correct size ?

I think the stand is for both the X series stringing machines and the Progression series but Bret will know. You can take off one of the feet from your stand and take it to Home Depot. They have a thread board there with all the different sizes that you can put it into to determine the thread size.

Dang, they sure charged an arm and leg for shipping and handling.

I hate it when shipping and the so called "handling" cost a lot more then the item you are buying.

Yeah, but you can't beat the actual price of the wheels. The construction is solid for such a cheap item.

The wheels are black and the stand is black so it looks like the casters were made specifically for the machine.
Mikeler, I just got mine on my stand, I wanted to say thanks a lot for the tip! The casters are solid, they look great--like a perfect match for the machine--and now I can wheel the monster easily in and out of my workspace (and in front of the Tennis Channel!). Sometimes it seems crazy to post new threads about casters and the like, but there's often someone out there who appreciates the info!

This was not my first thread about it either. Somebody in a different thread suggested caster wheels and drilling through the machine which I was not going to attempt. Stupid me realized a few months later as a base foot fell off, that they were THREADED. Then voila, the light went off.

I was carrying my stand about 30 feet or so. It's not the heaviness that bothered me, but your hands are really uncomfortable carrying it. Can't wait to wheel mine out and watch Federer play tonight. Glad the tip helped.

Marc Gicquel is gonna get a beatdown.

Mikeler, how did the wheels work out?

Which ones did you buy finally?

Thanks

See post #23 for the caster wheels I ordered. I'm now stringing on tile floors and I didn't buy any wheels with a brake which I regret now but the wheels all still work great.

FWIW, i bought the wheels from Gamma, but they are spendy. Seems like they were $70 bucks or so.

They have nice foot actuated brakes though.

On a 6004, not a portable floor stand.

edit: $92.95 tax, shipped and all that....

you can likely do better, BUT they are nice casters.

I have the Gamm x-st stand , I manage to put the top part of the 6004 on the bottom part of the Gamma stand, so this wheels that you mention I think do not fit the gamma x-st stand

no idea, but can't imagine Gamma would source more than one wheel.

maybe they do though, receipt DOES say "upright stand casters".

As much as I use my stringer, I'd spring that extra money for the brakes.

Great Lakes Website has the casters as discontinued that was listed on post #23.

I'm getting the x-st floor stand and would like to use casters. Are there any casters that are known to work with it?

I'd appreciate a link.

Thanks.

The bases for the ST series are not the same tapped hole.

They do. I've quoted gamma tech's e-mail response to me that is of interest in this thread. I don't have the measurement for the higher end machines, but looking at the base of my 5800 I'd wager they're 3/8". I can't confirm that atm though. No spare 3/8" caster at my place.

As much as I use my stringer, I'd spring that extra money for the brakes.

Just add "locking" to the search term (hint).

 - known to work as in: I'm following the measurements provided by Gamma Tech.

I have a 5800ELS, and snagged some 8mm casters yesterday at HD. I forgot to take one of the bump stops off the stringer yesterday before going to HD, so I just guessed when I bought them. Got them home, took out the bump stop, and realized my mahcine takes a 12mm stem size. I realize this thread is for the X-ST stand, but has anyone possibly sourced some casters that would fit the 5800?

I think I read somewhere that the 12mm casters with brake are hard to come by, and may be a British sizing.
