A google search of "1/2”-12 bsw caster" brought up a result from IPS Material Handling brought up a 3in caster variant with brake. I had to create an account to see price but they are $18.27 each. Curious if anyone else had seen this before and ideally purchased?

Go for it if Gamma is still out of stock, which I'm sure they probably are. Keep in mind IPS is in Canada so that may affect total cost to you if in the US or overseas (but the flipside is possibly a never-ending wait for Gamma to get theirs back in stock, so prob a worthwhile avenue to go and be done with it). Little different brake setup (side brake) on the ones through IPS compared to the Gamma's (top brake)...but a working 3" caster w/brake nonetheless. If you order, let folks here know how they turn out.

I saw that 1 too. Never bought anything from Canada b4 so didn’t pull the trigger

Looks like where I bought mine at probably 15 years ago has changed names or been acquired. Now they are called Caster Depot. Great $20 investment that I made all those years ago.

Gamma has their casters (1/2-12 BSW thread) for the Gamma Premium stand in stock right now if you need a set...better get 'em while you can.

Without clarification and sometimes a world of confusion for specific model stands when people talk about what casters fit what Gamma stands, if you are looking for casters for Gamma’s ‘Progression/X-Stringer Stand W/Caster Legs’ (model MPXF4000) aka the Premium Stand, or the ‘Gamma XLT Stringing Machine Floor Stand’ (model MXFLS10), 6004 models, and I would assume 5003 model stands as well, they seem to be the same as the 6004’s…you get one choice only and that’s buying the Gamma casters at $19.99/each. These stands’ legs run a basstard thread…it’s a 1/2”-12 BSW (British Standard Whitworth). Don’t even waste your time if here in the US thinking you’re going to find that thread in a caster anywhere trying to save a dollar…nobody has them here. And don’t even waste your time thinking NC 1/2”-13 or a metric equivalent will do it. About the only place you even hear this 1/2”-12 BSW thread pattern mentioned here in the US is hardware use with decades and decades old plate printing machines/roll printing machines, etc that were mfg’d in Europe and what handful are still in use here. The powers that be at Gamma years ago saw this money-maker opportunity with this oddball thread and jumped all on it. Is what it is.
Thank you so much for this -- I found this accurate for othe MPXF4000 (premium stand) in July 2024. I bought the Amazon casters for ~$16 after seeing Gamma Tech saying the threads were M8, but they were not. And, as most things stringing-related, Gamma is abysmal at keeping things in stock, reasonable prices, clear specs, etc.

However, it's 2024 now and I have a 3d printer -- was able to print a BSW 1/2 to M8 converter to allow the use of the Amazon wheels. I included a flat collar with scallops to allow easier hand tightening to the legs. I'm not sure how this will hold up over time (since there will be some lateral torque to the plastic when the machine is moved around), but, for the price, I think these are worth it.

If anyone sees this and happens to be in the same annoying boat with these Gamma casters, I'll print and send a copy of these to you for $20.

Outstanding adapter you have 3D printed converting these caster threads…Well done! Did you use PLA, PLA+, PETG, nylon?

UPDATE: For the culture....

I purchased THESE bad boys here for $16 total. All four have brakes and they installed easy and fit perfectly. They seem to hold the weight with no problem and they glide well. The brakes are "dual lock" which means they brake the rotation as well as the wheel. Thanks all for the help!

For what it's worth to others, I purchased these same casters for my Eagnas Flex 940 and they fit perfectly.
