Casual clothing: The smaller size the better?

Over the years, I've noticed people wearing fitter clothing. When I was in middle school, everybody used to wear excessively baggy clothing. Not even the "gangstas", but the skater kids too. Even regular people didn't give a rat's ass about fashion used to wear somewhat big clothing.

But as we moved past middle school, into high school, people started wearing fitter/smaller clothing. People started looking more defined in shape. You could see who's buff, who's skinny, who's fat; the baggy clothing no longer covered that. And I guess the muscular dudes go for the smallest shirts merely to show off their muscle definition and have bragging rights.

But I also noticed, even in high end fashion magazines people wear extremely slim fit clothes. Back then, oversized clothing was "in", but today it appears that the smaller your shirt, the more fashionable you are. Even today's "gangstas" are starting to wear clothing thats a bit more fitted, as opposed to several years ago when people wore XXXL tall tees and jeans that were 40 feet long. The skaters no longer wear baggy tees and cargo shorts, but skin tight t-shirts and female jeans. The preps have always looked the same to me :)

I personally made a transition from XL shirts to M over the years. Back then I was pretty chubby, so I used to wear baggy clothing to cover what's underneath the fabric...but now that I've been really exercising on a daily basis with tennis/weights, I could say I'm in good shape. XL shirts hang off me, and it just makes me feel uncomfortable. There's TOO MUCH on me, you know? So when I bought some Medium sized shirts, I felt more mobile and it was easier to move around without all the extra fabric jammed beneath you when you sit or turn in a seat. Not only that, smaller shirts really DO compliment the body. For me, its more about comfort than the look. I have some damn good looking XL polos, but they hang on me like rags and I feel uncomfortable.

Well then, I was wondering if this transition really occurred or its all in my insane imagination.

the end of a trend. I had people make fun of me for wearing clothes that fit. The other day I watched some guy with super baggy shirt and pants tryig to walk the other day while he was carrying a box of stuff. His pants basically fell off as he was walking.

I pretty much made the same 180 when I went to college. I guess it kind of started when I started high school, but it was a college thing for me. Switched from L-XL to M and S, when I could find it.

Well in BMore the 6X white tees are still in.

I have noticed more from fitting clothes being worn more and more.

And yes the Preps always looked the same.

Yea I've noticed the same thing. I wore L back in 7th grade when I should have been wearing M. But I've grown 6 inches since then, so those shirts still fit me 4 years later.

went from XL to L, which is a better fit because the XLs were too wide with the right length, but the Ls have the right wideness, but not too long, so i just go with L

Hipsters are wearing some really tight clothes lately. I've stopped buying such big (comfortable) T's but I still have a lot I use for tennis. In general, tight clothes look really good on skinny people, not so much on chunky dudes.

If you’re ordering from TTW, especially Adidas or Babolat, I would say it’s safer to err on the large side. The thing is, if you play tennis and have a nice body, you will look good in just about anything. However, if oncourt clothing is so tight that your nipples show before you break the sweat, you might as well save on shirts and travel to court and play shirtless.

emo is in. get yourself some canvas shoes, tight jeans, tight shirts, and part your hair to the side and you'll fit in with all the emo kids.

Nope, I've always worn fitted clothes.

Me too. I've always had the bohemian look. Always button-up shirts and non-pleated slacks. Fitted bootcut jeans & blazers. People used to criticize me, but I wouldn't let them think for me. Now I'm kind of upset that everyone's starting to dress like I always have.

Fashion trends are for muppets.

i think there is a mixture of both trends. You see alot of guys emo or not wear pants which are really baggy at the top where it looks likes its falling off but extremely skinny around the legs. You get what pants I'm talking about?

im 6'1" and i wear small or medium
if you have a nice physique why hide it under baggy clothes
i think any woman would prefer a man in clothes that were smaller if they had a nice body for sure

So, when will those awful, baggy tennis shorts die the terrible death they deserve? Murray in long shorts is possibly the most painful moment in sports. Erm, well, I'm not sure anything can be done for Murray come to think of it....He's just plug ugly.

I dunno, possibly when you get to High School and puberty really kicks in, you lose humility?

JK. Maybe.

My guess is just a shifting of trends.

I used to wear baggier, got into more fitting in middle school, but need to move up to Medium. Small is just too tight now.

All this talk of preps and emos and gangstas has reminded me of something:

Oh, I should probably add that one of the top juniors in the PNW, who has stomped me twice in the last two weeks, plays in a 2XL tall tee and baggy basketball shorts. He walks out to the court with a backward baseball cap on, a huge, puffy black jacket, and bright neon red baggy sweats, all of which he gradually removes throughout the tourney warmup. Off court he has a 4XL tall tee, the same jacket, the cap, massively baggy jeans, and boots. He's so unique that it doesn't bother me, and he's a really nice guy.

Yeah, if someone prefers to have their nipples show through the shirt, rather than taking the shirt off, then be my guest and wear tight nylon, why not, it's 2008 already GAWD.
