Yesterday i got a copy of the coffee table book "Centre Court of the Game" by John Barrett and Ian Hewitt, which was first edited in 2010, when the roof on Centre Court was finished. Its a nice book for all tennis fans, who have an eye on tennis history. The core is the wonderful picture material with many interesting views on Wimbledons holy places and especially Centre Court. Some memorabilia including rackets and clothes of the Wim Museum round it up, including the somewhat delicate golden sweater of Federer. You can see rare pictures of the great players too, who are lavishly presented since the time of Tilden and Lenglen. Barrett, who wrote some books on Wimbledons history, gives trustfull, short bios of the multiple champions. Then there is a rubric of great matches, which are presented by contemporary newspaper accounts. Nice, to read of those fine matches like Cochet-Tilden 1927 or Vines-Crwaford 1933 or Gonzalez-Pasarell 1969 or Rosewall-Richey 1971. The last picture of the book is fittingly a photo of Federer, Sampras, Borg and Laver from the 2009 championships, showing some of the greatest champions of all time.
