Champions do what champions do

In the chess news this week one thing is taking rounds - Magnus Carlsen, the undisputed world champion for last decade has refused to defend his world championship as he cites, the format needs to change and taking it up directly with FIDE, the authority that drives chess.

Uncanny similarity, with a much bigger cause - Djokovic not okay with politics taking over his freedom to choose what's good for his body. Fighting for freedom of choice, is a unique and strange battle for society as not too many takers in society for this concept as we make choices what the herd makes mostly without much of a second thought. It's a pro -athlete's most important asset - his body. If he is not allowed to take decision for it to continue striving for more glory in his sport, than we are wrongly aligning ourselves.

Max respects for Djokovic and Carlsen and Kasparov ( about 30 years back again for issues against FIDE ) and Muhammad Ali ( For not serving the army for Vietnam war).

Champions like Djokovic, Carlsen have proven that they are a different rarified breed. Maximum respects for sticking to their guns even if that costs them world championships or GOAT race. Champions do what only champions can do.

I know a lot of Nadal/ Fed fans can't take a different perspective. Living in the world as a yes sayer is rather tough.

This so-called 'different perspective' has been aggressively promoted and is well known.

It's not that others can't 'take' your perspective it's that they find it incoherent and risible.

Breh

This is basically “how can I connect Djokovic to a subject completely unrelated to him whatsoever” lol
No, it's true. Tell me one sports star in tennis who could have given up chance to be GOAT. Carlsen anyways is undisputed but doing what he is doing is also a powerful statement.

These threads are gross and I think it’s super weird how people think Djokovic deserves praise for not believing in a vaccine any more than anyone else deserves praise for believing in it. Why is one opinion any more admirable than the other? Just because it’s a minority one which society has legislated against? That’s a really stupid line of reasoning, you could excuse all kinds of **** using it

Magnus wants a more modern mix of classic and blitz formats to make the games more appealing/accessible, but also to lighten the preparation load (which I've read can reach up to six months for him). This all comes from a sensible and good place. NOTHING to do with Novak's narcissistic lobbyism to circumvent border control and national health policy.

No, Magnus is just bored cuz no one's in his league to beat him at classical chess iirc he said he'd only play if Firouzja wins the candidates

he looked bored when he won his 5th and #4 and #5 didn't make a difference to him

He is not bored, he is annoyed.

So believing something different from you and not agreeing with you is cancel culture? You going by your dominant views is cancelling me by that definition.
Dominant view here means popular view. I think here it's quite popular to thrash Djokovic over his vax views. That's what cancel culture means..Not giving appropriate thought to what it really means.

Djokovic stands up to not only his principals, but the right principles too. Vaccine mandates are not only unnecessary, but tyrannical.

Once vaccine mandates are removed, Djokovic will come back with a vengeance and no one will be able to stop him.

He himself has said that it's against his freedom of choice. Being vaccinated or not is independent.

Sounds like you don't give "appropriate" thought to much of anything that doesn't conform to your views.

Absolutely that's how you see the problem. Where is the narcissism I don't get. Or where is he circumventing the border control ? Parallel universe of news you read?

And independent countries are governed by their own laws and regulations; if someone from abroad does not comply, he or she will not be able to enter those nations.

And all I am saying is. It's okay. He has taken a stand which places him in rightful company of athletes who have taken a stand which makes them rarified. Bigger than the sport itself.

So, he has already made his decision and he has to accept the consequences of his actions, for better or for worse.

It’s also popular view to believe gravity or the sky is blue. Is it cancel culture to shame and shun flat earther’s?

Lol, so freedom of choice vs earth is flat. Nice correlation. Your conversation skills are in full display.

Equating science backed facts of round earth with concept of freedom of choice is a bad attempt of drawing correlations.
