Cheap poly

I was thinking about some "cheap" co-poly and poly strings which most of us use like Volkl cyclone, BHB/and rough, Msv Hex,SPPP, Top sping Cyber blue and Flash yet very good and I was wondering what's the real difference between them and the ones more expensive? what makes the prce to go up?

Marketing strategy, brand recognition and operating cost, when a company is paying big money for a top player to endorse their string they will jack the price up, when a company has brand recognition they will jack the price up, when a company has a large over head of operating costs they will jack the price up.

Other than that there is little difference, Babolat and Luxilon charge a large amount for most of their polys, because they can get away with it, if it costs more and a top player is using it people will automatically assume it is better whether it really is or not, than they will use it and hype it to others to justify it in their own minds.

There are not that many manufacturers in the world most of these strings are produced side by side with just a subtle change, some don't change a thing but the price and packaging, yet people will swear they play differently.

Cheap and Inexpensive are two different things....there is a distinct difference between poly strings mfg in China vs. Germany/Belgium. A LOT of manufacturers like Prince, Gamma, and some smaller companies definitely get cheap and "poor quality" poly from China and mark it up big time and spend that money in marketing making you believe its better than everything else. Germany/Belgium has quality polys at cheap prices but its some of the best around.

I think Volkl, Polystar, Tourna strings that are made in Germany or German-engineered are great strings sold at inexpensive prices. The quality is great. I'd compare it to buying a BMW at a Ford price.

I totally agree with these thoughts, however, have we been playing with the same string only a little different in shape and different name?

I am holding in my hand an empty package that a set of Babolat RPM Blast comes in. With the color printed inserts, and this well designed plastic container, this has got to cost Babolat close to $2.15 right here in in my hand. Assuming the package is made in China. Just this package. Rafa gets something for his likeness being used on the insert. Add that. We're around $3.00 and we haven't even gotten to the string yet!
