Cheaper Luxilon strings do they still live up to the Luxilon name?

As the title says I'm wondering if the cheaper sets of Luxilon (XP, Zolo, Adrenaline, Super Poly) are still good enough as a very cheap alternative to the more expensive Luxilon(Alu, Original, M2, Timo, Ace). Have you guys ever played with them? How were they?

I've tried Adrenaline a few times, and it plays pretty well for the price. Stiffish string that feels pretty solid - it is no where near ALU or M2 but a very good string for the price.

In my honest view - NO! they are not !

I highly doubt that their cheaper strings would compare to the expensive stuff. It's probably made with cheaper materials so prob not as good.

Tried Adrenaline on my Prestige Mid Plus. Didn't like it at all. I just couldn't get any power or spin to my strokes even though control was pretty good. For example I prefer Topspin's cyberflash over the adrenaline. Better spin, pop and control.

I can see that. Especially in a tighter string pattern. I actually like Adrenaline b/c of the crispness/stiffness. But, it's got nothing on RPM Blast or ALU Power when it comes to working the ball.

And, as other have mentioned, there are other alternatives out there not in the Luxilon/Bab line that are real nice options too.

Here's a playtest for Adrenaline:

Fairly positive playtest, ranked 13 out of 145 strings is pretty damn good.
I personally think it's a good string too, I don't know why there are so many haters out there. It's a bit harsh on the arm, but has very good spin even when it loses tension. You can definitely tell that this is a quality string, it doesn't dent at crosses easily like many polys, so the string keep sliding longer, give u good spin.

have you guys tried any of them? I don't want speculation just because of the price :-?

Have tried Adrenaline 1.25 - OK string, but not any way near Lux Alu series.

TIMO, the entire Alu line series, Big Ace and M2 are all the superior Luxilon strings and for a good reason.

I'd be curious what people would think of adrenaline if they said Federer was now using it in his crosses and they charged $16.00-$18.00 for it.

I use adrenaline on my Six One Tour and it is Awesome!!!!!!
There is control from anywhere in the court. The best thing, it allows me to hit as hard as I want with unmatched control. Try it!!!! You will not regret it!!!!!!

Fanboysaywhat? I jest.

I have used it. I didn't think it was better than a string like Cyber Flash or Big Hitter.

Well I just tried adrenaline and it wasn't anything too special but it did hit very well but I'm more interested in super poly or xp to see if there is anything there but don't have money to playtest

I wouldn't take ClubHo's posts too seriously.....every few months he says he's finally found his 'holy grail' string, then a few months later, he switches to another string saying its its new 'holy grail', then a few months later, another one, and so on and so on.

what do you mean a version of RPM Blast?

i personally don't like the adrenaline...coming from a guy that used alu power for many years prior

Rumours say that Babolat made several test versions of the RPM Blast and that Rafa and the other pro players all use their own preferred versions of RPM Blast.

We'll never find out just how many versions Babolat really made of the RPM Blast.......only one available in shops.....in 2 gauges

I am of string belief that Rafa's version of RPM Blast is actually Black Duralast - as his 'PHT' was yellow Duralast.

I may be wrong here, but isn't duralast a smooth string ?

Rafa clearly is using an edged string at the moment.......i can see that on close ups on my 50" Plasma.

yeah I think he uses RPM Blast too, have you ever tried XP or Super Poly before?

Okay, I'm going to have to take some of my words back, hitted with the racket strung with adrenaline again and find out something new about it. At first, I still wasn't getting as much spin as I would like to. As a generic topspin baseliner this was a huge disadvantage for me. Since I had strung that racket a month or so ago, tension had dropped a bit thus I was getting some nice pop out of the racket. No where near cyberflash kind of power, but still somewhere around average. Control was still nice, although I think Kirschbaum's Helix and Cyberflash are a little bit better for controlling and positioning the ball.

Overall, adrenaline is a pretty nice string. In a close-pattern midplus racket like my prestiges it's a pretty "demanding" string. Since it's stiff, it doesn't forgive those shots outside of sweetspot. I, for example, was shanking a lot of balls for the first 20 minutes or so. When you get used to the adrenaline, it's very nice control poly for flat hitters, not so much for topspin grinders.

I use Adrenaline in my mains. It plays pretty well but then again...it only plays as well as an 8 dollar string can play. When you compare Adrenaline and Rough there is no comparison.
