Interesting matchup for the dirt baller fans. Third ever Next Gen vs New Gen final. 21 year old Casper Ruud, fresh off his maiden title in Buenos Aires, is in his 3rd career final, all on clay. 19 year old Thiago Seyboth Wild is in his maiden ATP final, only the second New Gen'r to make one after Felix Auger-Aliassime, and looks to become the first to actually lift a title. Who do you think will win?

If Wild wins, he will be the youngest Brazilian to win an APT title. Yes he'd get in front of Guga on this one.

Ruud is likely not going away, but Wild has a break lead up 4-1 in the 3rd set. We'll have to see if he has what it takes to close this one out.

1 break point gave the set to Ruud.
Wild did not take advantage of so many 0-30 on Ruud's serve on this second set. And ended playing a very bad 9th game with rushed UEs.
He was the better player in the 2nd set in my view. Lack of experience paid the toll.

teens' W/L record in finals after the 2008-2016 drought:
1-5 for 2016 coric, zverev
2-0 for 2017, zverev, rublev
0-3 for 2018: de minaur, tsitsipas
1-4 for 2019: de minaur, auger-aliassime
1-2 for 2020 (so far): auger-aliassime, seyboth wild
How many aces???
He just serboted at the end!!!!!
And he doesn't look so tall .

3rd maiden titlist this season (after Humbert and Ruud), 1st teenager and 1st player born this century to win an ATP title.

A well contested final - I didn't mind so much who won, but I know Ruud more and kind of hoped he backed up his title from the other week. Having said that I'm content with who made the final - 2 of the most promising clay players of the next gen cohort, especially since Garin retired in his match, I'm glad Ruud had an exciting/promising opponent. I'm hoping these guys can get some good practice in on clay before RG and threaten some of the top players. I do doubt a lot of their endurance levels to go 4 or 5 sets but I think Ruud is progressing into a stronger and more conditioned player, so we will see. Keen for Garin and Ruud to finally back their clay form up at Madrid, Rome and RG!
