Chris_in_Japan @ the hitting center (MG Prestige mid+)

After the crap I got from posting my "dirtballing" video (thankfully edited by the mods).

I thought I would post a video that I did a few months ago when I first got my Head MG Prestige mid+..

It was snowing out, and was freezing, but I wanted to have hit and thought I would video it..

For the haters, well "bleh" I could care less, but again, a few minutes, un-edited with the good shots, and the bad..

Yes I am fat, yes I am old, yes my footwork is bad, and no, I didn't become a pro... Happy?.....

Oh, and this was the exact first time I ever hit with this stick!

First of all, nice backhands! Also, it looks like you found the sweet spot with that frame pretty quickly. The quality of the video was good and I am jealous that you have a place to hit like that in the dead of winter. Good stuff Chris it is great to see videos of other TT members playing the game.

Never saw anything like this (indoor court). Pretty cool and I bet expensive.

Your strokes are classic, you can easily tell you have been playing a long time. Guys don't hit like that anymore...nice classic strokes Chris.

cool contraption; was there a single ball you didn't have to hit on the rise? looked like a painful half-volley exercise from the baseline...

Actually for me, as there is a shortage of hitting partners, it has been a great stress reliever and also makes you sweat. So the little bit of exercise is also nice aswell..

The problem is, I can set the machine so I can hit the ball with alot of pace and get my eye in. But as soon as I have to go and play someone, as in my dirtball vid. I am limited in who I have at the other end. And although I enjoy playing with Mike, I don't think he gets to hit all that often either, so it can look at times very sloppy.. But fun none the less :)

welcome to the club! who gives a monkeys what some pimply 14 year olds think. don't see too many of them posting videos of their scrawny selves.

don't worry, my footwork is worse than yours (if and when i decide to actually move my feet for a ball)

Wow, that practice court is really cool.

Chris, it's a shame all the momos on this board have to ruin threads when posters share their vids. I appreciate you posting this one, and the fact you have that beautiful microgel doesn't hurt.

Great stuff! As always, thanks for sharing.

hyogen: Actually this center has a baseball hitting center and golf driving range. You can understand why my wife knows it will be while until I get home from that place when I go.. On that day I had my daughter with me, she loves the ball machine, and tries to spank the hell out of it with her Prince Air Sharapova 25. :)

Richie: Thanks mate. I am not worried what others think. I have my reasons, and not much I can do about it.. I used to take sport very seriously, but now I am becoming more of a gear head. And love playing with different frames..

drak: Appreciated man. And happy to share.. As for the MG, don't worry I have stashed two for the keeping, and will pull them out every now and then.. Might sell one as its still brand new and keep the other..

^^^^Ahh, yes!!! That doesn't help. Anyway, like I said, the strokes are there, just a matter of brushing off some of that rust, and getting back into the swing of things.

Don't worry slap. I have posted some pics of my stuff in other sections when discussing what we play with in ect..

I bought myself a few ST shirts a few months ago..love them. They are comfortable, light and are great to wear when playing. How did you7 come upon the Babolat?

^^^ Actually, I liked the look of it. Which is strange as I never usually go for frames just on looks. I bought it out of curiosity and just fell in love with it while I was playing with the MG Prestige. I simply started to find that I kept picking it up and giving it another hit. Got to the stage that I liked the open string pattern compared to the Prestiges closed pattern and then went from there. I also find that it has a lot more flex and feel compared to the Prestige, although TW's numbers say differently.. Plus I was astonished to find a Bab that played like a player frame. So, I now have 3 and have two brand new MG Prestige mid+ to sell..

Oh yeah, I love the Sergio Tacchini gear.. Simple, and practicle...

Would love to have one of those hitting centers near me.
I noticed you hitting the ball quite early (or seems to be anyway), is there a lack of room behind the baseline?

^^^^ No, there is enough room. I have always tried to hit the ball on the rise. It was the way I was taught as a junior... Take the time away from the other player to get back into position for the next shot. And dictate points..

When I was a kid, I based my strokes on Boris Becker. Always moving forward when possible..

Thanks for video and pics, Chris :D

I really appreciate looking at them and great that you take the time to post them in here on the TW forum.

You talk about how you like the open string pattern of the Babolat Aero compared to the closed of you MG Prestige Mp+. Did you also try the MG Prestige Pro, which has an open 16X19 string pattern ?

I own both the Mp+ and the Pro and if I had to choose, I think I probably would go for the Pro now. And I usually much prefer a more dense string pattern in my rackets, but the 16X19 in the MG Prestige Pro looks exactly right for me and it plays great too IMHO.

Hi mate, you are welcome for the vid. A bit of fun...

As for the Prestige Pro. Yes I did try it, and there was just something strange with the thing.. I love the mid+ but the pro just didn't feel right.. I also had a play with the extreme pro, but didn't like that either.. I simply found that with the Aero Storm I got the stability and plough through that I did with the prestige mid+, but the open string pattern just helped me out a little more. Oh, and I don't know if its because of the aero designed beam, but it simply feels easier to weild compared to the prestige, but without losing anything in the process..

It's "boys" day in Japan on the 5th of this month, but because I will be playing tennis, we are celebrating it tonight as my son is in his first year, as well as my wifes sisters second son.. So I am drunk, as with all the men in my family at this very minute..

So bump-etey bump... I am in the stir mood...

Nice hitting Chris! I know you love the Bab, but it seems like you hit a heavier ball with the Prestige.

Constructive comment: everytime you stay down with the ball & watch 'the blur', you hit a mean ball. But everytime you look up as the racquet touches the ball, the ball pops up too. I might be wrong though.

Nice gear you've got there!

P.S. Cute daughter. She sounds adorable!

Happy Boys Day Chris! Grab the stick & go hit some, drunk or not.

Your daughter is so cute!

Why are you hitting everything half-volley groundstroke? Could you not move back or slightly reduce the speed of the feed?

You were mistiming a lot of your backhands.

Thanks mate, constructive critisism is always appreciated. :) I agree with your comments.. I like to hit the ball on the rise, and so in doing so, it takes a good eye to hit it constantly well.

Thats why we call it practicing. Also, as I stated in the beginning of this thread. It was infact the very first time I had used the Prestige. So I wasn't going to be hitting the spots strait away...

And thank you. My daughter is a funny one. She loves tennis, and thats always cool... :)

LOL. Is that what they call it, when one is hitting a new shot over and over, in order to get it right???? I always wondered what the pros were doing when they are on the "practice" courts. I mean>>>>> they are already pros, why would they need to "practice" anything??

:)

^^^^ He he he. Yeah, funny that.. You would think that its like riding a bike. Once you learn and all!

Actually the machine at the hitting center allows me to adjust the speed, spin and trajectory of the ball. I was just getting my eye in on that particular occassion. Usually I put the machine in rally mode where it moves the ball around the court...
