you kidding? they all have man, you have a short memory, federer has even lost a masters final to simon, you all getting over the top with this mug thing
Whaaaat? When did that happen? When did prime Federer ever lose a big final to someone like Coric?

Wow. Just saw this - was watching the golf. Good for Coric. He's worked hard to come back from injury and surgery. He's someone who could clean up in the vacuum era following the Big 3's final departure if he's fit and has the self-belief.
Great about golf. Any tip how to get into watching it? I've started playing - just don't about my handicap but would like to start watching and need good intro.
About the game everyone moved on. Lacked suspense after the first set. GL to both.

FYI Coric has beaten everyone on your list but Djoke - usually multiple times. But let me try and break down your argument. If I understand correctly, anyone inferior to "prime Federer/Nadal/Djokovic" is "useless beyond useless"? In that case, you can probably stop following tennis, 'cause it'll be nothing but uselessness from here on out.
Statement: prime Federer/Nadal/Djokovic have not lost a big final to someone like Coric
False. Proof: Coric beat a crap 37-year old Federer in a 500 final

Dude Federer was 37 years old and it was a 500 tournament. How is this even close to what I wrote?

Not to mention Fed was playing like crap at the time.

Fed was world n. 1 at the time :)

I mean, we all know that PEAK Fedalovic would pretty much never lose to anyone but each other. So what's your point? Anything below the very best level of the very best players of all time is useless garbage? In that case, I repeat, you might as well stop watching.

LOL - golf is boring for me unless I'm watching to see how pros execute certain shots. Watching them swing always gives me ideas. That's why I watch, though I will never be a great golfer. If you're not interested in the "how" it'll be hard to sit through a golf telecast, IMHO.

Based on the scores, that's what it looks like. Thanks for the response.

Coric sweats much more than Nadal, but looks tidier and cleaner.
At the end of the match he looked like he took a swim in the river with clothes.
They had to towel the parts of the courts where he fell on.

Not just the big 3, I don't recall Murray or Wawrinka or Del Potro or anyone of worth losing a big final to a total mug. Absolute useless generation, this mug can't even take care of freaking Coric in a Masters final.

To be fair Djokovic lost to Khachanov in Bercy. Nadal lost to Davydenko in Miami. Federer lost to Tsonga in Toronto. Even the big-3 has lost big finals when they were huge favorite. Not necesseraly in their prime, but still huge favorite. I'm sure you'll say Davydenko and Tsonga are better players but Coric is only 25yo, he may have a better career than these players in the end...

I honestly think he would underachieve if he didn't match them considering the mugfest of an era he's playing in right now.

Not prime Djokovic or prime Federer.
Davy and tsonga clearly playing at higher level than Coric today. What Coric does career wise after this is not so relevant to the point (even more so considering the inflation era)

Smh tsitsipas. To go down this tamely.
One thing if you lost in a scrap to Coric, but to go down this tamely.

Congratulations to Coric on a good run and winning Cincy.
But given what this blackhole era is, expect him to crash out before 4R at USO.

Big congratulations to Borna for his first ATP 1000 title after a battle with injury.

Better luck next time for Stefanos! Nevertheless he overtakes Alcaraz for the the second spot in the race to Turin!

I just saw some replay...

What an anti climax performance by Stefanos. He didn't even move to some balls that he normally would get.

Hopefully he recovers and be ready for US Open.

What a fairy tale run by Borna Coric! I'm happy for him!

coric did the right thing, use his killer backhand to drive tsits crazy. tsitsi got locked in his backhand corner. 90% backhand rallies...

coric can do this wild backhand angles even in tricky situations. and the power he provides in this shots doesnt let tsitsi go on offense or do dropshots in the backhand corner.

tsitsi would have needed a backhand down the line thiem style but thats not in his repertoire...

Tsonga >>>> Coric.

Fed's worst loss in a masters final was to Mantilla, but that was before he even reached a slam semi. Still a bad loss of course.
Whatever, everyone that is not the big 3 is a mug, you all have veryhigh standars

ok I tuned it and Tsisipas is losing mentally. He didn't even try to.
Is it normal for so many empty seats being there?

Tennis seems to be pretty much a minority sport in the US these days so it's probably mostly down to that.

I also feel like tennis has had unlucky timing. Pandemics, wars, looming environmental catastrophe, the world's a pretty dour place at the moment and for a sport to prosper in that environment you need to be able to offer something fresh and exciting. Instead tennis has two all-time greats who are nevertheless now very familiar faces and a whole load of players under them who seem incapable of mounting any sort of serious challenge and don't even have attractive personalities in most cases. Even if Fed does make a comeback he's not going to alter that dynamic since he, too, is very familiar! I feel sorry for players like Alcaraz who get given this great burden of expectation and then get hammered when they slip up. But it's symptomatic of how desperate people are to see some fizz in the game!

I guess you expected a 10-year old Coric to somehow reach a big final and beat Fed

The last 16 tournaments have been won by 16 different players.... There are 7 players with two titles, two players with 3 titles, and 2 players with 4 titles in 2022 - I am wondering: is 34 one of the largest numbers of different male players to win titles within a single calendar year?

Probably. It's just another version of the WTA at this point. A different player winning every tournament, whoever gets out of bed the right side in the morning will win the match.

Are you comparing a retired Tsonga to a 25 year old Coric? The latter most likely didn't even reach his prime yet. That's just plain stupid

No, I'm comparing Tsonga at his best with Coric. It's not close whatsoever.

What's stupid is assuming all non-Big 3 players are created equal.

That's what I'm saying. This dude has most likely not even reached his best. He's been plagued by injuries so far and with the little matches he played on HCs since 2020, a shoulder surgery and a 1 year injury hiatus he managed to defeat Musetti, Nadal, Bautista Agut, FAA and Tsitsipas and dropping only 1 set the entire tournament? That's actually wild and speaks for his talent. Just watch his H2Hs against todays top guys. Leads Nadal 3-2, Federer 2-4 (1 win at a HC masters SF and one to win Halle on grass), ties Murray 2-2, leads Medvedev 4-2, leads Tsitsipas 2-0, leads Fritz 4-0, ties Zverev 3-3, leads Ruud 1-0, leads FAA 2-1, 2-3 against Thiem, ties Hurkacz 1-1.

Those numbers are actually pretty freaking impressive for someone who got overlooked by most people in the next gen discussion. His issue were clearly of injuries and confidence nature. Hr could be knocked out easily by bums, but against the top guys, he always puts up a fight. The only nightmarish numbers I can think of are his H2H against Cilic, who leads 8-0 and Djokovic 4-0. With the latter being clearly a match up issue. He doesn't stand a chance against Novak's tennis
