Circus Tour Finals strikes again

Nadal's performance was embarrassing. He deserved to go out, he was the second worst player in the group and Incase anyone wasn't aware, he:

- Didn't win a single match in straight sets (Something Zverev did twice and Tsitsipas did twice)
- Was 1 point away from losing to Medvedev. The guy who both other players in the group managed to beat in straight sets

People acting like this is a problem with the event are deluded. Nadal was garbage and his "fightback" against Medvedev was more a choke than anything special. He wasn't anything special and would get destroyed by Thiem or Federer and probably re-destroyed in the final too. Be happy that he has managed to save some dignity by still being #1 whilst also avoiding further hilarity by losing easily in the SF.
Agree, but Zverev and Tsitsipas both straight set twice.

Djokovic reached Rome final this year after Del Potro brought a disgusting choke in the 1/4 finals and after winning a very close 3 set match against Schwartzman. Nadal on the other hand destroyed all his opponents until the final. And yet both had equal chances in the final and both had the chance to fight for the title. Nobody punished Djokovic for winning close matches due to his opponents choking. Punishment for that is possible only in the WTF.

It's obviously possible to eliminate the group phase to create fair rules.

It is better to directly put quarterfinals, semifinals and the final.
Fair rules? Using the group stage format for part of the tournament reduces the effect of the so called 'lucky' draw. If anything Nadal should have done better as the better players are by definition more consistent.

So let's get rid of everything that is different? Yeah, it is one tourney a year as it should be. Never said I hated other formats... as you are right, it is the exact, same, format, in , every, tournament ...Your comments make zero sense.
You said you're sick and tired of everything being the same. How can you be when the entire tour has the same knockout format apart from the Circus Tour Finals with its crappy RR format? If you're sick and tired then you'd be skipping most of the tournaments with the same format and just waiting for the CTF to start.

Do you go in a Masters or a GS tournament and say "oh god...here we go again, knockout so boring let's just hurry up to the CTF"

Knockout tournaments is far fairer than this everyone has EQUAL chances. Thank **** only 1 tournament uses this RR format.

I see it differently. Sure, I wanted a Rafa Fed SF but I like this set up. Both sides play the same draw which is unique, and you have the potential of players playing twice in the same tourney. I like the matchup comparisons.

I honestly don't care about this "tournament". But it's just annoying how much Nadal is disrespected at this event. He should never play it again, really.
Nadal's record at this tournament is basically 50-50, way worse than Fed/Djoker's records. He disrespects himself.

I wanted Nadal vs Thiem on this court with both in their current form. Their US Open match was incredible. This one wouldn't have disappointed. Especially with Thiem being an improved player on HC.

He never even plays this event. He skipped it 5 times just in this decade. And when he finally decided to play they did everything to knock him out.

Of course he doesn't. Half the time Nadal is "injured" come fall/early spring and only to be miraculously healthy for clay every single time.

And when he finally decided to play they did everything to knock him out.
Yes, "they" did everything to knock him out. Nadal, the guy who got crushed by Zverev, and then almost lost to the guy who ended up 0-3 is entirely blameless. Poor Rafael.

Nadal is a deserving semi-finalist I don't care what anyone says. He lit up this tournament with 2 great matches the Fedal SF would've been fire and you all know it.

Even Federer fans on social media wanted a Fedal SF.
Circus Tour Finals strikes again

You should regroup for the next Laver Cup.

Ned just isnt a good enough player to win the ATP's highest level event

Its why he isn't considered one of the all time greats by all serious tennis observers

The list of YE Championship winners is illustrious, so many multislam winners and YE #1s are on the winners list some even multiple times. The tournament means something when the list of winners reads like a whos who of tennis over the past couple of decades.

Who are "they"? The tournament has existed in this form for almost 50 years afaik. Did they come up with these rules then so that 50 years later "they" could do everything to knock poor little Nadal out of the tournament?

Nah then there is only 3 matches, with the RR it is like a proper tournament, finalists play 5 matches..

One year didn't someone go through to semis on 1W 2L ?

I feel for Nadal. Z trolled him real bad in that event. WTF rules may not be fair but neither are draws. Tennis is a GAME, luck goes into it in all events in many different ways. It is an amazing season for Nadal regardless and #1 is priceless.

H2H vs sasha. Its ironic after all the head 2 head stuff, it bit you guys in the booty :-D:-D:-D

Nadal played really well in his last 2 matches. He held up physically all the way through against much younger foes. I guess his abdomen injury must not have been all that bad which caused him to pull out right before the SF in Paris.

Whoever has the most 250 garbage titles and weak era Slams. Oh, right, he is in the SF already.
This is not something exactly new to him... and guess what? He always played under those same circumstances. Even got KO'd once and you don't see people wanting tennis to get rid of balls because of that.

So do you hate the entire ATP tour cuz dude it's only 1 tournament that has this format lol
Why would I want to see fewer matches being played between 8 of the best players in the world? Literally the only people that are whining are whining because their guy is out. It boggles my mind that tennis "fans" are proposing an option where you would get to watch fewer matches between the best players in the world.

Tsitsipas-Nadal, Medvedev-Nadal, Thiem-Djokovic were all excellent matches. If we moved to knockout, we'd lose that quality. I'm all for this format.

1 point away from losing to medvedev. Just like djoker was 1 point from losing 40-15 to fed. Guess he shouldn't get the Wimbledon since he was 1 point from losing.......
