Clamp/Base release and tighten order

Quick question — I was just watching someone string and I think I'm doing my order incorrectly.

When I tension, I clamp then secure the base. To move the clamp, I then release the clamp and the loosen the base — on the latter should I be loosening the base first then the clamp as this is what I observed someone doing? Thanks!

It's recommended to release the base first and then the clamp. This is the safest order since it limits the string's ability to slide through the clamp jaws as they open.

That said, I've never had problems releasing the clamp before the base. A correctly-tensioned string won't move when the clamp is released, so it won't be damaged. I have a pretty nice stringer that's designed with gravity-assist clamp bases. The gravity assist only works when the clamp is released first, and I take that as a sign that it's acceptable.

Awesome thanks for the reply, I'll work on correcting this. I haven't had any bad string jobs recently, but I like doing things by the book when it comes to this stuff!

Not sure how long this practise of releasing the base first started,, but in 3 prince machines I use, the change has been made to accomodate easier button release,,
prince 5000 and/or 6000 machines have a base clamps with small release button, pretty common,,,,

I had to adjust my technique also( coming from flying clamps on my first machine), to base clamps..

Strung up a racquet tonight, tough to break the habit but I did find when I got it down to be a much smoother move. I also got a very pleasant tension reading afterwards too (not sure if that had anything to do with it, but still felt good haha)
