HI guys, I have recently sold my PA 2019 due to feeling disconnected & TE. After this brief trip with Babolat Im returning to Wilson. Goin to try the Clash 100. Can you recommend a good hybrid setup? Used to play with multi which felt nice in my Ultra. In the PA I had a full poly rpm blast and didnt really like it. Maybe Im not ready for full poly or should I have strung below 21kg? Wont know now that the racket is sold. Think I wanna try a hybrid this time. All advice willbe appreciated.

I prefer the hybrid setup mains vs touch 51 lb and crosses volkl cyclone at 49 lbs was the best feel I’ve tried so far. I currently have vs gut mains at 52 lbs and Alu power 18 gauge 1.15 in the crosses at 50 lbs. Spin/power on this setup is insane! But launch angle is much higher and feel slightly less control so have to be careful. I’ve had it strung up for about 2 weeks and the 18 gauge is already sawing through the gut significantly which is disappointing as I’m feeling like I’m starting to get it figured out.

If you want to keep using the same strings but want longer playlife, try switching the poly on main because it will slide over a small area of itself but longer area of the cross (which prolongs the notching and fraying) as the gut is inherently less durable.

Do you notice same similar feel from both setups?

I feel the control of the poly is more present and the power is more restricted but the comfort remains and the playability is extended.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have my friends racket with me and it is strung with main poly(luxilon) and multi( W.sensation) in the crosses. Cant tell what tension but feel definitely softer to touch than my outgoing ultra with bi one technifibre at 55. I seen some other guys to do the same. Main alu power 1.25 @50 and crosses wilson nxt 1.30 @52. Would you recommend do the same? Poly in the mains and multi in crosses? What tensions? Or shall I do multi in mains and poly in crosses?

i have yet to experiment with multi hybrids. Let us know how it goes if you try! So many setups so little time.

If you use the least durable string of the combo as the main, it will break quicker because the multifilament (natural or synth) will wear the protective coating on a very small area of itself, will lock up on the notch and start fraying. If you put the multi on the crosses, then the poly mains will slide over a longer area of the cross and will last longer before breaking. The main strings will play a bigger role on the "feel", using a poly you will get more control (restricted power) and the spin can go up/down depending on the shape and gage of the poly, the cross string will play a secondary role to give you comfort and power.

If you want to try a hybrid string job, use s.gut as crosses instead of a multi because the price will be much lower and the comfort and durability will be very similar (compared to using a more expensive multi as cross) and start with a soft-poly that will give you some power back instead of a very stiff-poly, and from there you can get a feel if the next string job you would like to try something softer, or stiffer or even shaped poly.

Tension is relative to the size of the frame and the string pattern, a smaller head with a 18x20 pattern should be strung with a couple of lbs less in tension than a oversized 16x19... but all of this is relative to the player itself and what he/she likes or feels is comfortable and with the right power output.

Im not a string breaker tbh so maybe could go down the route with multi in mains and poly in crosses. But, I played again today with my m8`s clash and loved how it felt so will go with poly in the mains and multi/synt.g in the crosses. Im very tempted to try full bed of poly in this frame but dont have the resources to cut it out if it doesnt feel good. I just need to figure out the correct tension in my m8`s clash as he doesnt know appearantly haha ( gosh tennis so competitive, he hates loosing so wont tell :)) )
I will take racket with me to stringers and hopefully they can figure out the tension. My guess its around 48-50

When I had TE and I was still using the Clash Tour, I strung it with VS in the mains and Element in the crosses. Very comfortable and long lasting set up, it was powerful though, but the comfort was outstanding. Amazing ball pocketing.

I string for a competitive age grouper who plays the 70's, and he recently switched to the Clash 100 pro. He developed some tennis elbow pains after using his wife's very light racquet while snowbirding, and his normal Pure Drive with full poly was aggravating his problem. Because of his play style that relies on a lot of control on his flat'ish shots, I strung it up with Alu Power 1.25 in the mains and VS gut in the crosses, at 50/55. I know lots of people will say this is a waste of gut but this combo did the trick. He gets a cushioned response and still have the control he needs.

The racket arrived today to I went ahead with the stringing straightaway. Got Lux smart 1.25 @44 in the mains, wilson sensation 1.3 @46 in the crosses. Hope it will play to my satisfaction
