Clash 2.0

For week-end warriors I think so yes. Power, Spin and most importantly you stay injury free. Allowing you to do other stuff like working out while being 100%.

For serious players I wouldn't know, but I read about the lack of precision/consistency a lot on this forum.

Do you guys think the Clash obsoletes other tennis racquets like Wilson’s marketing claims?

I really like my v2 pro

Of course not. I do think it is a unique racquet and one that can do a lot of good, preventing TE in club and casual players. I sold mine just to get it out of the garage, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to regret it if I start feeling a tingle in my arm from my stiff power frames.

Hi all, new here!

Just thought I'd throw in my two pennies on the 98 Pro v2. Been using it for bout three months now with Alu Power's strung at 25KG/55lbs, and finding it very trampoliney. Think i'll most likely trade it in for a Blade or something if a higher tension does not fix. Anyone else finding it like this?

i found my clash 100 tour 1.0 very inconsistant. had to crank up the tension on strings to deaden the racquet and make it a bit more manageable (55m/53c). drop shots were still horrible though. love the colour, but the racquet is not for me.

I hit the 100 Pro v2 that a buddy owns. I restrung it for him with Durafluxx at 52 lbs and …. to me… that really improved the racket’s control. I didn’t think it was launchy at all.

Point being that Alu is pretty powerful. You might want to try a deader string and Durafluxx is one of my fav’s for taming a tweener racket down.

Thanks I'll try that, didn't really cross my mind! Relatively new to tennis.

I think the Clash paint will suffer the same fate as the PK Redondo and in a few years become a filthy, sticky mess. Chips will be the least of your worries. The good news is that thoroughly rubbing down the frame with a cloth saturated in isopropyl alcohol takes the goo and dirt clean off and the paint becomes smooth and beautiful just like every other racket.

I don't notice any 'goo' on my well used V1's. But I do notice it is chipped all to hell, and mostly from stowage. That's unimpressive.

As Tim said, the Clash really needs a control string. If I put Revolve 15-17g in my Clash V1, I need to string it up to at least 54lbs for control. Any less and I got to baby it. Up to 58lbs, it handles very well, and still has good spin, with a very controlled launch angle and never any fliers. I just ordered a v2, so curious to see how she handles Revolve and Max Power in the mid to high 50's.

I think the control thing with the clash is a bit of a myth. If you hit eastern forehand it isn’t for you, but we all know that, it’s more built as a pure aero competitor than a pro staff one.

If you play semi western grip with poly strung around 55lbs it does what you tell it to. When you miss it’s probably on you!

I don’t get the string low theory either, fine if you are doing it to protect you arm, but people who string low tension then complain about control only have themselves to blame.

ATL Open tensions:

Tiafoe 42#
Opelka 47#
Isner 35#
S. Johnson 45/47#
Kudla 48#
Brooksby 49#
Sock 35#
McDonald 45#
J. Thompson 48#

And of course, Mannarino's infamous 24# tension...

None play a Clash, but there is no need for a club player to be hitting at 55# in general. Control comes from solid technique, not from stringing a racquet tighter than Kyrgios (54#) does.

Every racquet I own says to string between 50-60lbs or 48-58lbs or something similar. You need to let the racquet companies know your findings immediately. Surely Kyrgios should lower his tension if he wants more power on his serve.

Does rackets say what type of strings and gauge or string manufacturer to use?
My point was, there are no definitive answers or solutions, and for someone to insist that no one can use a certain string tension based on what the pros are using is ridiculous.
That would be akin to saying that because Roger Federer uses an RF97 everyone should be using that racquet also, because everyone should play better with it.

My findings? They’re the ones who string so low. Ask Tiafoe how he could possibly control his huge groundstrokes with a 42# tension.

I was just curious about the strings as years ago.. some mfg did put on type of strings to use depending on control or power...
Some also use the term " recommended" for tension..
I see merit in higher tensions with multi and lower tensions with poly..of course head size also comes into play..
The bigger the Head...the more tension typically..

I agree with all of that.

So I started playing a lot more and was worried about tennis elbow and had not had a new racquet so I thought I might as well try the Clash. With all the complaints about control/launching I thought the 98 would be good for me. I do like it a lot, very nice on the arm, nice spin and I really felt the pocketing people are taking about. But I am getting older and wanted a little more pop. So when they came out with V2 and it seemed like they addressed some of the complaints with the stiffer hoop and more dense strings on the Pro and 98. I went with the Pro as it is the same weight as my V1 98 and I was hoping for a little more power. I really like the update, definitely more power, took some getting used to. A lot of what I liked about the V1 with the extra pop. Not as nice on the arm though, if you are looking for ultimate comfort stay with the V1.

I think if you are looking at a V2 Clash, you should also consider the new Prince ATS frames. To me, they feel more plush and more controlled than the Clash.
Once Wilson went up in stiffness, I believe they made the Clash redundant. Other makers now have more comfortable options.
If you do not need power, then the Wilson Blades are definitely an option, as well as the new Prestige with the 61 flex.
