Clash 98 v1 vs Clash v3 Pro

I have a chance to get a new Clash 98 v1 and wanted to get some thoughts on it and how it compares to the Clash pro v3. I know the head sizes are different but I have seen mixed reviews on the v1 so wanted to get some thoughts. I am a 4.0 with traditional strokes and currently use a pro staff v14 but I am looking to get something more forgiving since I am not getting any younger. . Thank everyone.

Get the v1

V3 will be easy to get for years.

I liked the Clash 98 V2 which you can get currently at about 50% off. No 98 in the V3 range. I found the 98 V2 had great control and was easy to use, maybe slightly lacking in power, but that's often the trade off to achieve comfort!

Comparing v1 98 to v3 100 pro is like comparing apples to pears lol

Because they play very different like even comparing my v1 100 pro to the v1 98 they are dissimilar

In your case even more so as the the string pattern in v3 pro is 16 20

I think the comparison is useful actually. I have played clash 100 tour/pro v1 and play 98 v2. they are different racquets but again not that far from my point of view.

They are all very different rackets i would know as i own all the clashes from v1 to v2 except a v2 UL and v1 100

As said it is comparing apples to pears in some cases apples to oranges like in your example

In others it is green apples to red apples

Been a few months, but they changed the balance on the Pro so it isn't like the previous versions from what I recall. It's a fine racket and easy tennis (ball will never go out) but it isn't easy to get as much whip or top end power compared to the v1. It has better stability and low end power though. v3 feels solid but muted consistently, v1 feels more soft or harsh.

If I were to consider the 100 v3 Pro, I'd also try the 100v2 standard.

From a conceptual point of view ( fitness for purpose ) it’s the first version of the Clash that most epitomises the idea of building a comfort racquet. Lot of the online reviewers see the V3 Clash as a return to the values of the V1 after the V2 went down the firmer route however I see the V3 as 75 percent V2 and 25 percent V1. Yes the V3 doesn’t have a 98 version ( yet maybe ) so that’s a consideration that one needs to take into account. Where early builds of the version 1 struggled with was the paint quality - they chipped very easily and that grey wasn’t that attractive to look at.
However I have this to say - if you are coming from a V14 Pro Staff 315g with the 333 swing weight and you wanted a more comfortable option then I would get the PK Q Tour 315 with its 328 SW ( before it is deleted from their range ) or the 300 version. These racquets are best in class for comfort yet still retain the box beam experience. Strung in multi filament like X1 Biphase at around 50lbs and you have a lively yet beautifully made, comfortable frame.
There are other alternatives as well which we could explore as well such as the Volkl V8 Pro which has some power mixed in with some good flex and I’m a fan of the Angell K7 range. The Head Boom should also be on your demo to do list.

The point is you cant compare them

How can you compare a 98 head 55RA stiffness thinner beam different balance 16 19 pattern clash versus a 100 head 54 RA 16 20 string pattern with different balance?

If you were comparing 100 to 100 with same string pattern fair enough but you aren't

But the v3 100 pro is 16 20 the v2 100 standard is 16 20

From what i tried the v3 100 pro is more plush than the v2 100 pro both have same string pattern so easily comparable
