Classic matches

For Christmas I got the Wimbledon Legends Sampras dvd and it is one of the best tennis dvd/documentaries I have seen. A couple of his Wimbledon matches mentioned on it that caught my eye were the Federer v Sampras 2001 match that they played. It has all the signs of being a classic since it also went to five sets but I wondered if it was actually a good match and if it was worth getting my hands on it. Another match mentioned was the 1999 Final against Agassi which was suppost to be maybe one-sided but still Sampras played out of this world, is this also worth getting? Any info would be much appriated and also if you know where to find these matches on dvd could you post a link or something please.

Any other classic matches and good documentaries that you guys might think are worth getting hold of would also be appreciated, again a link to buy the dvd would be great.

The Aussie Open website has or used to have awesome access to their archives where you could mail order from a huge selection of matches from their tournament and Wimbledon. The reason I said "used to" is because I'm having trouble accessing their online shop. I get a "page cannot be displayed message," when I click on it but I believe that was where there archives were located. Maybe you'll have better luck.

On a side note I was wondering if anyone has seen the Facing Federer dvd and is it worth buying?

Sampras vs. Federer 2001 is overrated in my opnion, the match is more significant than it is high quality. Its gripping, but neither player is near their prime.

Sampras vs. Agassi 1999 is a great match in my opnion. Very one sided but briliant quality. Probabely the best induvidual performance I have ever seen! Here is what the Official Wimbledon Website had to say about the match:

"Then there were the occasions when Pete was in his pomp. The 1999 final against Andre Agassi was possibly the greatest display of grass court tennis that Wimbledon has ever seen. Sampras had stumbled around the circuit for the first half of the year, winning nothing and looking miserable but then he went through that Lazarus moment as he returned to the grass. He won at Queen's and then began his campaign for The Championships.

Round by round he gathered momentum until he was ready for Agassi. His fellow American had just won the French Open, he was the story of the moment having hauled himself back from a ranking of 141 and reinvented himself as a champion. Agassi was at his peak. And in the first set he had the temerity to manufacture three break points on the Sampras serve.

That was it. That was the moment Sampras moved from champion to genius. He snatched back the break points and then took off. For a couple of minutes Agassi shook his head and tried to work out what had happened but by then the first set was gone and he was a break down in the second. It was not that Agassi was playing badly, it was just that Sampras was sublime.

"Today he walked on water," Agassi said later. Sampras said simply: "Sometimes I surprise myself." He ended the match on a second service ace - naturally."
