Clay court speeds

While not a perfect indicator, the ace rate (percentage of aces relative to the ATP average across all surfaces) can be used to assess the speed of a court (affected by weather, ball and altitude).

In 2013, the ace rates for clay courts, averaged since 2010, were as follows:

Code:
Sao Paulo 158%
Gstaad 116%
Santiago 113%
Stuttgart 105%
[B]Madrid 98%[/B]
Dusseldorf 96%
Munich 92%
Acapulco 92%
Umag 87%
Hamburg 85%
Buenos Aires 82%
[B]Roland Garros 81%[/B]
Barcelona 80%
Casablanca 79%
Estoril 74%
Houston 74%
Bucharest 73%
[B]Rome 73%[/B]
Nice 72%
Bastad 70%
[B]Monte Carlo 67%[/B]

Basically, the tournaments that play the most like RG in terms of aces are Buenos Aires and Barcelona. The Masters that play the least like RG are Monte Carlo (slower) and Madrid (faster).

That is a bit funny. Federer is best in ultra slow speed and ultra fast speed, he is I guess the worse on medium speed courts.

Maybe he is confused what he should do on medium court :).

This is a good indicator of court speed, but not of bounce imo.
