Clay used to be made of clay, but now it's made of clay that's been fired up like Nadal at Barcelona 2R, then crushed like fedr at the 2008 Roland Garros final.

Now there are two other surfaces; three if you include indoors as a surface (it is not).

Grass
This surface is basically what you get when you neglect a clay court and let stuff grow on it. My grandmother's garden got grassed over when she moved to a retirement home, so a grass court is basically just a neglected clay court.

Speaking of neglect, the ATP and the ITF have not been lazy unlike Federer during clay season, and so have been ensuring that weeds don't grow on it over the year, resulting in almost no grass tournaments.

So fact that Federer, the so-called grass GOAT has at least 1 title at Wimbledon means that he’s padded up his slam count on a surface that is now proven in reality as a third world surface that the ATP and the ITF don't care about. Plus, Nadal also has at least 1 Wimbledon title just like Federer, and yet this has not helped his GOAThood claims according to Frauderinas. Therefore this hypocrisy further solidifies the argument that Wimbledon just doesn't matter. Recreational grass is illegal in most countries anyway.

Hards
What do you get when you mix clay with water, cement, and acrylics? That's right, you get a hard court, which is basically a clay court that's been left out to dry. Since watering a clay court costs manpower but drying a court out requires nothing but the sun, clay is more expensive to maintain than hard courts, which is why third world countries with no healthcare and social welfare like the United States play almost exclusively on hards, whereas rich countries like Germany, Switzerland, and Monte Carlo can afford to spend money on such luxuries as clay.

Indoors
These are basically just hard courts with a tent over it, and because all external factors are removed, simplifies tennis. As a fan of BO5, I don't want tennis to go the way of Fast4, and indoors is basically the Fast4 of surfaces. If you think normal hards were just clay for poor people, then indoors is for poor people who want to be rewarded right here, right now, without having to pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

Legend
Origins..

"The first clay court were started to use in 1880 in Cannes, and with this invention tennis is obliged to the British, the multiple winners of Wimbledon, the twin brothers, Ernest and William Renshaw. At that time Cannes were a greatly popular venue for sports games, particularly among the British vacationists, so the two brothers-spertsmen decided to give tennis lessons. Initially, the game was conducted on the grass court, but because of the scorching sun the lawns fell into disrepair, and the Renshaws decided to improve their quality and to modify them. In the city of Vallauris a pottery centre was located. They took from there the terracotta wreckage of broken pots, chopped them, brought to Cannes where spread them on the lawns and thus created the first clay court."

Nadal etc can thank Ernest and William Renshaw.

The biggest tournament in Switzerland, the country with the best nanny sta..., I mean the top first world country, and in the world for that matter, is an indoor one, how do you justify that?

Basel is indoors because the tournament exists solely for the purpose of tax writeoffs as a charity to players from the lazy countries.

Federer keeps winning because his smooth strokes are a result of a lack of effort. Selfish rogr doesn’t even realise it’s a charity event for journeymen to pick up some points and prize money.

Basel exists to enlarge Federer's overly large pocketbook and head.

It's so affirming to know you've made a difference

Clay is the OG surface?

Hold my Berrettini.

Berrettini lost in the second round at RG, and his best slam results came on hards and grass, so by your logic this proves that clay > grass and hards.

Talentless ball bashers like him and Sampras are rewarded on third world surfaces like hards and grass.

OP, I assume by Fast4, you’re referring to the 4th entry in the Fast & Furious movies? If so, I agree, I much prefer Fast5 for tennis - the era where we inject Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson into tennis in order to spice things up.
Tennis doesn't need no @Gary Duane "The Rock" Johnson. We already have one of those, and his name is Rafa Nadal.

Do you smell what the Rafa is cooking?
