Clay Season Scheduling Conundrum

Beacon Hill

Here is the schedule for the clay court season:

Week 1: 250
Week 2 : Monte Carlo
Week 3: 250/500
Week 4: 250
Week 5: Madrid
Week 6: Rome
Week 7: 250
Week 8: French Open

I wish there were some way that Madrid and Rome would not have to be scheduled back to back. But I guess there is just no way around it. I've studied the schedule for days trying to think of some way that it could be re-worked so there could be a week in between these two 1000 tournaments. I've even asked some of my friends in Mensa, and one who is a rocket scientist, but have finally accepted it is simply impossible. Too bad.

There you go.

listen, I am all for protecting the player's bodies and finding a better schedule for the whole year, but is playing back to back tournaments that big a deal? 10 bo3 matches in 14 days if you make the finals of both (probably 5-6 for most top guys), and 7-8 days of rest before RG.

Nishikori will play 6 matches in this tournament. There is little chance he'll be fresh enough to do the same next week. Plus it's completely unnecessary to have back to back Masters 1000s on clay. Some of the annual scheduling is very difficult. This is not.

if you go deep or win any level tournament, it is difficult to do the same the following week. but there is always going to be a tournament the following week. again, I am in no way opposed to schedule changes that benefit player health, but playing tournaments in consecutive weeks a few times per year doesn't bother me much

Agree. Snowflakes and poster drinking too much of the Complainerade (and listening to the clowns on TV - players wear themselves out w practice - Dimitrov admitted he only took 1 wk off in November) - the top seeds still get a bye in MAD and Rome; the lower guys get beat.

And some players who have clay only games and play too much to bag ranking points - no one’s fault but their own.

Yes, there is usually going to be a tournament the following week. But why does it have to be a Masters 1000, when it is entirely unnecessary? These tournaments are mandatory for most top players. We want top players to be at their best in the biggest tournaments - it's best for the sport in general. Putting two Masters back to back is ludicrous.

Agreed. Let's just play all the majors back to back to back to back.
