Now that the 2021 slam season is over, we can compare all recent CYGS attempts from the Big-3.

Federer: 3 chances

2006: Lost RG in F to Nadal in 4 sets
2004: Lost RG in 3R to Kuerten in 3 sets

Djokovic: 3 chances
2021: Lost USO in F to Medvedev in 3 sets
2011: Lost RG in SF to Federer in 4 sets
2015: Lost RG in F to Wawrinka in 4 sets

This isn't even debatable. Only one player even won the first two slams of the season, let alone coming to within one match of completing it.

What the hell are you talking about?

Djokovics best attempt ended after 27/28, Federers after 13/28 and Nadals after 10/28.

Well I'm looking at it from a standalone match perspective not taking slam order into account because unfortunately RG is the 2nd slam and kills the attempt early in the year if not achieved.

Otherwise you can argue Fed was closer in 06 or 07 having gone to 4 sets at RG instead of Djokovic's poor performance last night.

Crawford and then Hoad. Crawford had a 2-1 set lead over Perry, when in the usual rest, he refreshed himself with some liquor. It didn't work out in the heat.

Get back to us when you understand how tennis works.

Obviously Djokovic. The others never had to deal with the pressure of being within 1 match of accomplishing the greatest ever achievement in tennis.

If not for the pressure of CYGS maybe it wouldn’t have ended in straights. It’s too big of a deal to not take the pressure of CYGS into account which fed and nadal never had to deal with. I mean Serena lost to Vinci of all people in her quest at 2015 USO

Djokovic had real pressure going for the real Grand Slam, you could feel that. You have to survive the tough route through all the slam matches for a whole long season. Djoker had the game for the GS on the streamlined surfaces, you could see that as early as 2007, when he reached all semis. Like Serena, the mental and physical pressure of the last hurdle got to him, but unlike Serena he had to face a really dangerous final opponent. We should give Med some credit, he was the by far best player of the tournament. It was a bridge too far for Djoker, but ist was astonishing, that he came so close at 34. He won his slams this year more on resilience and stamina than on sheer brilliance of play. Honestly said: he should have lost to Zverev at Melbourne, Tsitsipas at RG, and even Shapovalov at Wim, who all were better players on the day, but faded due to mental issues. I think, Djoker has still good chances to get 21 slams, especially at Melbourne and Wim, because no one can play on grass anymore (maybe Auger will step up). But the chance for the Grand Slam is gone now.
