i live in texas and while the winters arnt rediculously cold i still hate playing in anything that could be remotly considered cold. anyway, i dont really have a problem with pants but i absolutly hate playing in sweatshirts and i was wondering what a good alternative is to wear. I tried on some of under armor's cold gear the other day but it was so tight i could barely move in it, let alone play tennis. so yeah, any suggestions for cold weather attire that doesent involve a sweatshirt would be great.

I live in the NE, so I've got the cold thing down. I suggest trying some of the Nike or Adidas type RUNNING gear. That stuff is not the slick shiney UA stuff, but does fit tightly. I find it much more comfy. Also, they have what I'll call 'jackets' for a lack of a better term, which are stretchy but move with you, and aren't that bulky.

Worst case, if that stuff feels too constricting, go for the 'silk type' liners skiiers wear under their winter gear. Those aren't tight and are extremely soft, thin, and warm. Wear a long sleeved Tshirt over it, and nobody will ever know.

Vests are the way to go. They don't restrict your arm movements at all but still keep your core nice and toasty. I love them! In winter, I just throw on a T-shirt and a vest over it and play outdoors. Works great!! I have about 8-9 vests, most are all cotton and a few have a bit of poly blended in. I highly recommend it!!

I agree with BreakPoint. I love a vest over a t-shirt.

By the way, BP, I need some more vests, and it seems very few clothing companies make one. Where do you get yours?

Hey, Moe!
Yeah, it seems like most of the tennis clothing companies (e.g., Nike, Adidas, Fila, etc.) don't make too many tennis specific vests anymore. However, they do still make them for the golf market (I guess with golf being more popular than tennis). There's really no difference at all between golf and tennis vests since they are all just cotton vests. Thus, I suggest looking around golf pro shops or any place that sells golf apparel. So stores that sell both tennis and golf gear like Golfs-m-i-t-h, or some sporting goods stores, or even department stores in the sportwear department (or even just the men's dept.). Just about any cotton vest will work.

Thanks, BP!

Yeah, I should have thought of that. I see a lot of nice vests when I watch golf on TV. I can't understand, though, why it doesn't have such a following in tennis. A vest is great on a cooler day, and it's the way to go in a chilly indoor club.

When my high school coaching season is over, I think it's time to hit a few stores.
