Clothing Superstition

Have you ever noticed that some articles of clothing seem to bring 'bad luck' and thus you don't wear them anymore to tourny's with the fear of being kicked out in the first round. Does this happen to anyone else or am I just strangely superstitious.

For example, my pink Nike visor ( thought I love it ) makes me lose when I wear it. As do my pink Nike wristbands. So when playing in a real match, I don't wear them.

No certain clothes "make" me lose, but it seems, by coincidence, that I tend to play better in certain clothes. If I play well in a certain shirt, etc. I will wear that shirt in my next match. If I play bad in it in the next match, I won't wear it for a while. So I guess I am somewhat superstitious. It comes from my old baseball days.

I always used to have the best serving days if I was wearing my black visor. I'm talking about a significant difference: from 40-50% without to 70-80% with.

In any case, the hat just got so worn out that I couldn't wear it anymore. Oddly enough, my serve has never been that good again! But, I think it was something to do with the top of the hat being at a good angle for me to judge how high the toss was.

My friends think I'm strange, and my dad thinks it looks trashy, which it may, but nevertheless, I ALWAYS wear my t-shirts inside out. I was wearing it like that accidently one day and played really well and I've stuck with it ever since.

Yes, my Tim Curry, "Rocky Horror Picture Show" outfit has much the same effect.

Okay, I got a clothing superstition now. I wore a bandana yesterday, the black Nike swoosh bandana that I bought from TW to be exact. I wore it since my hair is long and I plan to grow it out. Not like Federer and Nadal style just the regular style since my hair is not as long as theirs yet. I don't think I have ever played so good in my life even if it was just practice. The bandana stays, now I just have to get more colors, preferably colors more like white since I am under the hot Florida sun.

I always wear my two World Industries wristbands (inside out so they're straight black instead of yellow-black) and a regular blue bandana. I want to get some Nike Swoosh bandanas, but I'm afraid that I'll be accused of trying to act like Federer (with the bandanas, long hair, and Wilson Tour 95s). Not that there's anything wrong with Federer, it's just that I hate it when I see people wearing those stupid Roddick Reebok trucker hats, and I don't want to be accused of being a poser. I like wearing long sleeves, except when it's way hot with no breeze.

Ugh long sleeves?! I think it's hard to play in long sleeves. See posers are kinda cool at the same time, because at least they're mirroring themselves after a good player. Not that I run around in my reebok trucker hat, but people that do don't bother me.

I have no problem with trucker hats, it's just that it irks me when people pay exorbanant amounts of money on a HAT that they only bought to look like Andy Roddick, or because it's the hat he wears.

That's a good point. But I mean if they actually LIKE the hat, I don't think there's anything wrong with spending money on something you like.

Lately I have noticed that I don't play well in league matches with Fila but better with Nike. I played the whole last session for my 4.0 singles league in Nike clothing and went undefeated? Coincidence? I think not :D Never mind I got a walkover the best player becuse he was sick and the second best player rolled his ankle during our match.

yeah, i guess you could say i'm superstitious, i tend to play pretty poorly when wearing my parka, so i usually try not to wear it during tournament or ladder matches.

Yeah, I have clothing superstitions, too. I just don't wear clothes and I win; I'm not quite sure why because they don't tell me, but it seems to work. Opponents I regularly lost badly to just start losing once everything goes off.

I've never made a connection to me losing and what I was wearing at the time. Outside of tennis, I do have clothing superstition. I seem to do better on my exams when I wear a specific outfit.

as ben affleck said in an episode of celebrity poker showdown, "superstition brings bad luck." look at reggie miller, he has an extensive list of superstitions and he never won an nba championship :p

Yeah, I agree with that. I used to superstitious during my younger days. My overgrip had to wrapped a "certain way", my shoelaces needed to tied "just right", etc, etc. But now I try my best not to be superstitious.

Phidias.
