Club & Park level: Nice (expensive) clothes = bad player?

Oh sorry, didn't know.
Last 3 "hot" days, it was about 78 degrees here, the same in Berkeley, and the winds blowing 12-19 mph at BerkeleyMarina.
My van don't like the freeway, and I got registration (late) to deal with.
Hope this heat wave isn't affecting you too much.
Well it is not that far away.
Perhaps we could setup a friendly Bay Area TT forum tennis day.

First, nowdays you can wear very nice clothes of the mainstrean brands without spending the big bucks, it's called Sale. Second, if you notice what a guy is wearing in the court and you can tell the season and the price of the clothes and which pro wears it, then maybe you are guilty of the same but you either don't have the money to buy it or just don't want people to think you are a poser for wearing the latest models or you just don't care, but then why to start a thread about it if you don't care? Just saying...

+1 for Champion Dri fit from target, used Nike/Addidas stuff from the goodwill, and whatever funky polyester athletic stuff I can get from the Marshals/TJ Max. I've been gradually replacing all of my old torn t-shirts with synthetic quick dry material.

I've seen some crappy players were expensive stuff and some great Europeans wearing nice digs. Kind of 50/50 around here.

Newpball, we should try setting up a NorCal, Bay area thing.
I've hit with Shroud and RobFL, and Deepak the past month.
We gotta go onto the TRAVEL section for this, or we're going to lose track.
SystemAnomoly teaches out of SanMateo, maybe we can expropriate his courts.
I can't drive my van on the freeway, but I can borrow g/f's GTI or EuroVan.
She's travelling a lot end of July, so that's a better time for me.
LET"S DO IT!

I don't know what a poser is. Is that the person I'm trying to describe? I also couldn't tell you which pro wears what. I can't recognize any shirt as Nadal's, or Federer's etc. I know the RF logo when I see it, but I don't know the rest of his shirt. I have never rooted for Roger and would be embarrassed to wear anything with RF on it. I know some of the Williams unique clothes, but have never seen anyone else wearing them.
I don't ever buy clothes at tennis shops. I buy short pants at Target or discount sports stores. I have about 3 pair that are at least 3 years old each. I look for ones with pockets big enough to fit a tennis ball with my hand around it. I wear T-Shirts for my matches and my shoes cost about $49.00 mail order.
I have NEVER been able to tell the season by looking at a person tennis clothes, unless it's winter and we're wearing sweats and long sleeves. I don't know what the cost of other peoples clothes is. What I do know about tennis clothes is that they are unreasonably expensive. I haven't been shopping lately. This knowledge comes from life experience. Although I don't know the exact price of clothes, I know the difference between a tennis shop shirt and the T-Shirts that I wear. The look different and don't cost the same.
My point was that it seems like SOMETIMES the people who spend the most money on clothes are the worst players. This is for men only. I don't know about women.
In my last 2 Flex League seasons, I played one very nice dressed person and beat him 1 & 1. The rest of my matches I played guys dressed similar to me and I lost more than half. The matches I won were very close. My coworkers have seen this in pick up basketball games. There is some truth to it, sometimes.

I think you should dress more casually for a public court than for a private club or tournament match. It's just like anything else. If you're going to a fine dining restaurant, dress up. But you'd look strange dressed up to eat fast food.

Showing up in a head-to-toe tennis outfit for public park rallying is a mistake. The public courts are casual attire. Remember the scene in Caddyshack when the kid shows up in that boating outfit? He says, "I guess I'm overdressed." On a public court wear gym shorts and a t shirt. Good shoes and a tennis bag are ok, but no Fila shirts. Not there.

Personally, I like to play reverse psychology. Dress up like a tool, lull your opponent into thinking that you have collared shirt so you must suck, then kick ash. Nothing worse than getting beat by a guy wearing this season's tennis fashions.

Didn't you wear white shoes during the recent heat wave?
I did.
Today, in 62 degree weather, I wore my gray and black Prince's.
Let's try to hit in a few weeks, when my g/f goes away on work related travels.

Didn't you wear white shoes during the recent heat wave?
Yes I was, however did not play all the time, my kid was complaining about the heat. Telling him that when I was young I went to play even if it was 100 degrees did not seem to impress him at all. :)

How do members get in touch with each other without putting that info on the forum?

Oops.
One time I went the courts and one of the guys there said "hey buddy, I just saw you on the Tennis Channel!" :)

yeah. I have OCD. My clothing has to match the racquet i am using at that moment (for example Donnay + Fila)

i am a little better now :)

Agree with OP. What a pretentious bunch!
Here are some more I come across:
1. Dudes wearing white shirts, ferragamo ties and tailored suits but with no Ivy Leage MBA.
2. Dudes carrying enough computing power and memory in their laptops to run a digital telephone switch but with no PhD or masters in computer science; OK forget the degree (ntrp?), they can't code for shjt.

Of course, there are exceptions.

What you really gotta worry about are the ones that carry the 12pack bags!

I just stick to a drawstring these days. I played D1 freshman year of college, so I'm decent.

Yes, empty 12 pack bag with a set of bolt-cutters inside.
