Coaches Hot Seat

Is this a joke? Brian Boland was never on the hot seat. He put UVA tennis on the map, but even if he was on the hot seat, wins against Wake Forest without Rubin and NC State aren't exactly milestones.
He is joking but should he be? Boland's edge is starting to fade a little bit. He is no longer the intimidating coach he used to be and his recruiting suffers from it, you can tell. His recent recruits have been lesser quality. Quitakowski is good but his other American recruits have been a disappointment.

Altamirano is a decent player. I think he won the USTA boys 18's at Kalamazoo. Boland also got Henrik Wiersholm (top ten American) and the rumor is that Noah Rubin almost came as well. UVA has 8 Americans in its top 9. It is spelled Kwiatkowski.

I believe that all of the other top programs are heavily relying on foreign players including USC, Baylor, UGA, and Oklahoma. They are doing what they have to do to win, but I think you are wrong about a drop off in Boland's recruiting prowess.

Boland's seat is nowhere near hot. No AD in this country is firing a tennis coach two years after winning a national championship and a year after winning an 8th consecutive ACC Championship. The only thing that could cost Boland his job at any point in the near future would be if he was found to have committed serious rules violations.

This season has spiraled out of control. I cannot believe the struggles at 1 and 2 all season and it has caused the rest of the team to implode. Once promising looking freshman have started to be easy wins for opponents. Didn't people say the Gamecocks would be top 25 this year before the year started?

Tap the brakes superfan. They finished 18 in 2013 and 27 in 2014, NCAAs 3x in a row. Why don't you remind me how the guy before him was doing.

He was doing very well thank you. He had some down years when he was obviously going to retire but before that Gamecock tennis was better than they are now.

As we near the end of the regular season and revisit the initial list, who do you think deserves to continue to be on the hot seat? On the men's side I'll throw out: Arizona, Clemson, Miami, Wisconsin. On the women's side: Wake Forest, Colorado.

Shelton needs to be on here, another year and no chance at top 10
I'm gonna call for tapping the brakes on this one. First off they are currently 16 and in good position to host and that's pretty good place to be. He has 2 juniors and 1 senior, 2 sophs, 2 freshman and 2 redshirt freshman. It's only his third season and he's got two Blue Chips coming in next year. Along with a top coaching staff already in tact, they'll be better next year they will be top 10. Don't go ViciousVik on us.

This is Florida we are talking about, not Memphis. 4 years to maybe get to 10 is not good enough, Jackson did better then that.
Andy Jackson wasn't getting it done, but sounds like you want him back. He's in year two at Arkansas and not making the tourney. In Memphis, that math is one year less than Shelton has been at FL. With your logic I'm sure you hope you get your wish.

Now go off to your "if you're not first you're last" club and kick those rocks with the rest of your realistic fan buddies. Enjoy the ride.

Think Purdue's coach is on the hot seat with the year they are having?

Lost a lot of 4-3 matches to some pretty good teams.
They haven't had a good team since Guillermo Gomez left. But Thorne isn't on the hotseat quite yet. Based on the progress and youth of the currebt team he will get a couple more years and then an assessment can be made.

In the case of Pacific and Saint Mary's how much better should they be? That aren't bad teams and are probably around the 80-90 ranking range. Is it realistic to expect them to be consistent top 75 teams?

Clemson, you are off on this. Got to agree with Charm, these programs are up by me and I can firmly say St Marys has a coach that has been there a very long time and leaves everything to the assistant. Should have stepped down 5 years ago. Pacific on the other hand I know pretty well because I knew the old coach Guido very well. He consistently had a ranked team and did a good job with the international recruiting. Since Redondo has been there they haven't done much of anything. Haven't looked at this years results but since I haven't heard anything positive from out there in a long time I assume they are having a bad year. From what I hear from other people up here he thinks pretty high of himself.

Add Santa Clara to the list. They are terrible this year and even with the guys coming in they are going to be bad again next year.
This one is in my wheelhouse too and couldn't be more far off. The guy has done a great job down there and has one bad year and doesn't want your son and he should be on a Hot Seat list. All I know is Coach Whit always said they over achieved and I can say the past several years they have been highly ranked. It's very hard for a mid major to never have a bad year. The word I am hearing is they will be loaded next year with a lot of Americans and some international players. Sounds like you are just a little disgruntled he did want your son.

Now wait a minute. It was just a couple years ago that they were making the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament and beating Texas.
Exactly, and last point on this topic I can remember several times the coach at Santa Clara was mentioned as a coach that should be in line for a Power 5 job so let's hold our horses here.

What are everyone's feelings on Husack at Alabama? He's been there since 2012 and have had a pretty awful year this year (outside of beating Ole Miss). Barring a miracle they will be missing out on the tournament again this year. That coupled with their scheduling debacle (10 out of their 15 wins are the result of doubleheaders including the unfathomable 6 matches in one day).

I really don't see how they'll be any better next year. They've got some decent players but top to bottom the roster isn't there. They have a lot of guys that can play at 4-6 but they're getting owned up top.

Definitely don't want Jackson back. Didn't get it done and not getting it done now. And don't be so upset....memphis is one of the best 2 or 3 jucos out there

Nice try. Florida is in a strong position likely to host and make a move into the top 10. I'm sure you'll remain ungrateful over that terrible fate.

Agree with the other responses, SCU coach does not belong on the list. Nr. 11 recruiting class in the country for 2015 coming in. Blue Chip level players actually.
They are going to be so much better next year. I will be there to see them play Portland next time...
Totally the right decision not to recruit 3 star and wait for 5 stars to come in.
Sorry, just facts.

Ok you are right he's doing a great job, probably only 5/6 coaches could have us in this position and another 2/3 at 10. Or maybe those numbers are more like 50/60 and 20/30

Yea, who am I kidding. Jobs like Florida, Miami, Stanford, Arkansas, Alabama, Kentucky, Pepperdine, Clemson and a few others should all have red carpet built in success. I'm sure with the exception of Stanford (coach won't leave) and Arkansas (you don't want that coach back) any of those guys would do better at FL.

Don't think Women Illinois is at risk, three good wins last weekend and back in the rankings today. Class of 2015 is better than 2014 recruits , and also VERY good doubles players. Will make a difference next year, so at least recruiting is improved.

Florida and Stanford yes, ucla usc texas georgia too....uncw usf Tulane tulsa San Diego Portland etc, all those coaches could be 16 at florida, that's not even counting head coaches at big schools and several assistants

I have to agree with Sevens here. I was so so frustrated being a fan of Texas tennis a few years ago when the Longhorns were around 15-30. That's just unacceptable at UT as it should unacceptable at Florida. I was ready to give up on Center several times, I thought that his time had run out. But he has proven me wrong recently and got back to his top 10 form. With Shelton he has never had top 10 form in the men's game and I do not believe it is correct to just assume he will make Florida top 10 soon. He has not shown that he has the killer instinct. Florida is stagnant.

Arkansas? Kentucky? How do you figure? Very little in-state talent, cold weather, mediocre academics, not real attractive to Americans or internationals. Anytime those programs have been good it has been because of great coaches. For Arky it has been a decade!

How about this for some fun???

Make a prediction which school loses their head coach, and then pick the most likely replacement.

For Example: Miami- Bo Hodge

wow Murray State open again, good grief they have no stability right now

Upon further research, the current coach at Murray State was named interim for this season, thus the job opening. The South Florida job will have a lot of applicants and a strong pool of candidates. The only thing holding it back is that it sits outside of a power 5 conference.

Another possible thing holding back some of these women's jobs, especially USF will be the dreaded (Women only) should apply.

Van Emburgh has gotten a lot of vitriol on this thread but much has come Orlando's way (Michigan state coach). Wisconsin just beat MSU 4-3. Van Emburgh has had success in the past while Orlando's claim to fake is one tournament appearance in 27 years on the job.
