coaching from stands during match

During the Sharapova match, did you see that? Her Dad/coach signaling her with a bananna and she promptly taking a bight of her bnananna and ditto about taking a drink of some potion she had. That was blatant coaching during a match. Against the rules. Either the rule should be enforced, or should be changed.

Ditto the talking from Murray to Gilbert during the match, especially if Gilbert responds.

And there have been many other instances of signals from coaches to players during matches.

Maybe the rule should be changed to allow it.

Yeah I definitely laugh when Murray is giving speeches to Gilbert during play haha. I especially loved the comment i think in Toronto or Cincy that Gilbert "obviously doesnt care about him winning" or something to that effect.

I don't think Gilbert responds when Murray goes on his rants. He just seems to sit there and just look at him like he's odd.

I sat on an outside court at Wimbledon to watch a womens doubles match and happened to be sittin next to one of the players coaches(Maria Santangelo). The guy could not shut up, he were a few feet away from her and he was shoutin stuff at her during the whole match and she was clearly taking notice of him. I couldnt believe no one said anything to him!

What pissed me off most was that for 1 game Sharapova shut her mouth, then went back on screaming.

I am sick and tired of her screaming like that as it is deliberate to mess up the other player.

I hope she never wins another slam and gets seriously injured for being such garbage.

The cheating and underhanding BS is old, especially how she gets away with it

Yeah, did anyone catch at the end of the first set of the Sharapova/Golovin matcb...when Yuri did a hand signal pointing out 4 fingers out of 5? As it could've been "4 hand".

It was too funny...I liked how Tracy commented on it - "oh, time for a drink!" and then "oh, now it's time to eat!" ROTFLOL.

They shouldn't change the rules, they should simply be enforced. My understanding though, is that unless someone (the opposing player) points it out to the umpire and challenges it, nothing can be done.

Pretty sad if a professional the level of Maria needs her coach to remind her to take a drink of water or a bite of banana.

play well,
Andrew

I would say everyone use coaching at some extend, all coaches are signalling to players, if they find it necessary or players looking for support staring at the coach all the time game going in wrong direction. That's just pure fact. Sharapova screaming, her dad's attitude annoys a lot of people, but in general they are just one of lots others in illeagle coaching sense.

I think you are right, either they need to make it all ok or make it so that the coaches can't even be there or get really bad seats along with other coaching staff.

I mean it is just insane that this blonde idiot can't even remember when to eat and drink:confused:

McEnroe said something very interesting regarding the rules during Wimbledon. He thought Davis cup style coaching should be tried on the tour, where the coach sits on the side of the court and is able to help there player at the change over. He thought it would be an awesome sight to see Connors at the side of the court giving Roddick a goo talking to when hes not playing at his best. I have to say that would be good to see. But at the same time this takes out the whole idea of the player working anything out for themselves during the match, which is what tennis was originally about.

Wow, Sharapova is a huge biotch. Not only is she annoying, screaming her head off at each shot, but she was totally rude in her press conference yesterday. You should go watch it at usopen.org, they ask her about the banana incident and then about if she sees Yuri in the stands, and she answers extremely sarcastic and b!tchy. I like her less each time I see her face.

You're not alone, a lot of the women that supported her are tired of it, but personally the final straw for me was when she was playing Golovin and did not scream and played like a decent real person for one game.

Proving that the sreaming is not our of effort, or anything like that rather to messup her opponent

Yeah, I just watched that. What a *****! She totally made an ass out of herself.

'Did you see him holding the banana?'
'Yeah if I'm looking at him I usually see. I'm not blind the last time I checked.'

Reeeer!

I, for one, would like to thank you, christos, for your valuable contributions to this thread. Your willingness to stay on topic in a sea of nigh-indecipherable blibber-blabber should be an inspiration to us all.

I call upon all of you to salute christos, and to bask in the glow of his wisdom.

The rest of you ought to be ashamed of yourselves. For shame.

Peace be upon you all,

Grim
