Coating on Synthetic Gut rubbing off

I just started experimenting with hybrid Poly/Synth Gut jobs. Previously, I only used full Poly setups. Is it normal for the coating on synthetic gut to start rubbing off in the first hitting session? Do other synthetic gut strings rub off in the same fashion? How many hours should I expect to get of the synth gut crosses?

I have Gosen Polylon Ice (16ga)in the mains at 55lbs and Gosen OG Micro (16ga) at 57lbs in the crosses.

Yep thats normal. The Gosen always does it full job or hybrid.

Is the string going to last much longer or does it start to fray next? Does PSGD or a Forten synth gut do the same thing?

Typical synthetic guts (nylon core, wraps) don't tend to fray. The wraps can unwind (which sounds like what is happening to you). PSGD is one of the worse syns at this, but Forten is pretty good.
