Colin Cowherd: "Novak Djokovic has no fans, but gets every break from organizers"

I never used to notice Cowherd talking about tennis on his radio show before, but he's doing a lot lately. He was talking about Novak and suggests that surface homogination has benefitted Novak more than anyone, not even close. Cowherd joked that it was the organizers at the grand slams that magically made Novak invincible after years of mediocre results and not the gluten-free diet. Cowherd then openly asked what motive the organizers at the grand slams had for slowing the grass down, making the bounce minimal on clay, changing hard court material to Novak's favorite, minimizing windy conditions (roofs, which I thought was weird since the motive is obvious), and draws that look like "Srdjan made them with a red crayon."

Anyone else listen to the segment? Pretty entertaining, even if a little sensational.

On July 23, 2015, Cowherd made remarks connecting the number of baseball players from the Dominican Republic to the game's alleged simplicity. The observation that the Dominican Republic "has not been known in my lifetime as having world class academic abilities", because "a lot of those kids come from rough backgrounds and have not had opportunities academically that other kids from other countries have."

The remarks drew the ire of some Dominican players, such as José Bautista, and of the MLB Players Association; later that day, USA Today reported that the MLBPA was considering the possibility of "withholding cooperation" with ESPN and Fox over their lack of reaction to the remarks. Major League Baseball also condemned Cowherd for making remarks they felt were "inappropriate, offensive and completely inconsistent with the values of our game.”

Why should I care what this racist thinks?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is what led to him being booted from ESPN. Then Fox picked him up immediately

Cowherd doesn't make sense on his Djokovic take.

Shannon & Skip were great except for Mr. Sharo's wrong love of a self-declared king.

Surface homogenization definitely benefitted a lot of players.

There is a whole bunch of folks that dislike a whole buncha things about Djo, brought on by himself. However, there are people with incredibly bad taste and no tennis acumen that still like him, so saying he has no fans is a bit disingenuous. :p

That was the only correct take Shannon had.
Most will do the same. Get a superstar athlete to support them on TV helps their career.
The Greatest ever, GOAT, never gets swept in the finals, not once, but in two finals.
At least get a game.

Ah yes, the Greatest Ever prefers to lose in the first or second round instead.

- MJ's first rd losses: 2 against a 60-win legendary celtics team that made back-to-back finals. The loss to the bucks as a rookie, okay. I give you that but prime Moncrief and Cummings were beasts.
- Bron won his first series against the Wizards which is not a top team nor did they have legendary players.

"It's not how you start it's who you finish." Great quote.

Possibly the greatest respect was another top 20 player who mimicked the greatness MJ achieved, "Kobe".

We may disagree but Bron's on my second team. Magic is my point forward due to Bron's worse assist to turnover ratios and lack of killer instinct compared to Magic.

Respectfully you’re wrong in every way but you have the right to be wrong so I will grant it.

Those Celtics teams and history were wrong in every way? okay.
Well we’ve had discussions before, so I’d rather not waste my time again. I believe you’ve seen some of my other debates, I greatly respect Jordan being from North Carolina myself, he is the universally accepted GOAT and it’s good for the game that he is. I wish LeBron had performed to that level in every single finals he played. I think he has some things Jordan doesn’t but if you want to say MJ is better that’s fine, I never have disagreed with that.

The second you start talking about anyone other than MJ being better than LeBron though… including saying LBJ isn’t even top 5 all time because of “killer instinct”… it becomes abundantly clear that I’m reading the misguided ramblings of a delusional hater and the discussion is not worth continuing in a serious fashion.

Bill Russell. I always say Jordan's the best I've ever seen instead of saying he's the GOAT out of respect for Mr. Russell. The guy won too much at every single level to attribute his success to luck or his teammates. He's just a guy who was light years ahead of everyone at understanding the metas of the game. To this day i still think he's the sharpest BBall mind there's ever been

Actually yeah, I should rephrase. Any modern player over LeBron is the part I view as lunacy. Kareem and Russell absolutely have cases, imo even over Michael, due to the outsized influence that big man defense and rebounding had on the game especially in that era.

Always suspected the organizers of tennis are pro-Serbian. ;) Federer would have been the GOAT if he had caught a break from the tennis establishment.

Why did the Zverev thread get deleted?

Hahahaha I genuinely would’ve paid money to hear his take on the 2020 US Open

“Who is this Zerev guy anyway? He’s tall enough to be in da NBA and he serves the ball slower than RA Dickey’s knuckleball! You gotta be kidding me! Who’s coaching him, Kotite?”

I don't think it was with me ever. But yeah, it's not worth the trouble. There are basketball analysts who have agreed & outlined their reasons. Fans are tribal and unwavering.

I liked Shannon Sharpe and found him to be hilarious. But I felt for a while that he outgrew Undisputed (not even taking into account the increased tension between Skip and him after Skip tried to ‘rubbish’ his NFL career).

Skip having the final say regarding all topics to be discussed was the major problem with the show IMO. He kept choosing the same rinse and repeat topics, and so the Cowboys, Brady and Lebron were discussed over and over and over again. During his ESPN / First Take days, I believe he didn’t have the same power and so discussed a much wider range of topics.

I genuinely have no idea. I didn't see any trolling or reason for it, I can only assume the topic was assumed to be inciting trolling? Too many topics get deleted imo yet ones like this stick around. It's weird, "pro player talk" and some random nobody non-player talking nonsense about a sport he doesn't have a passion for is allowed but a thread about an actual quote from an actual tennis player gets deleted.

Strange, Isn't it?

American sports talking heads’ business model is to **** people off to generate clicks and attention. This pisses off the entire country of Serbia. So Cowherd FTW.
