I like chaos
That's what I'm hoping for this weekend. Want to see how foolish the NCAA can look. This is what I'm hoping for:

1) Georgia beats Auburn. Alabama is selected as the playoff team
2) Ohio State beats Wisconsin. Ohio State is selected as the playoff team
3) Miami beats Clemson. Clemson is selected as the playoff team
4) TCU beats Oklahoma. Oklahoma is selected as the playoff team (or Georgia).
5) UCF beat Memphis. Don't get the Orange, Fiesta, or Cotton Bowl.
6) Notre Dame gets the Orange, Fiesta, or Cotton Bowl (preferably Orange).

Nice to see you're coming round to my chaos thinking
Took me a while

I think I've said it before. The NCAA won't give two ****s. They don't sponsor the CFP. The FBS is the only sport in the NCAA who's championship isn't officially endorsed by the NCAA

Yes, I know. This is an ESPN thing. But in the minds of the public, it is the NCAA that is in charge (and would look foolish).

In fact, ESPN will lobby / demand the teams I indicated get selected (to get the highest ratings) and then have their pundits throw the NCAA committee under the bus for the entire month for selecting them. Hoping to up their ratings, yes. But also hoping to expand the playoff to 8 teams.

I don't vote the Buckeyes in, no matter the results this weekend.

SEC champ is in.
ACC champ is in.
Oklahoma wins = in. Lose = out and Bama in.
Wisconsin wins = in. Lose = out.
Ohio St wins = in only if Oklahoma loses and Clemson loses. I'm definitely putting 1 loss Bama ahead of OSU, no matter if they win the Big 10. You can't get absolutely waxed by a team outside the top 25 and dominated on your home field and get in over Bama. I'm not sure I put them in over Clemson if the Tigers lose a tight one to Miami, though losing late in the season (and to Syracuse :() gives them the edge.

Ultimately, I would love for Wisconsin to win because it's nice to shake things up.

I hope Clemson wins because they match up better with SEC style football and can potentially outscore Oklahoma with the help of their D.

Hoping Georgia wins and gets in because I'm just so damn tired of Alabama football (and that includes Auburn, though better them than Bama).

Hoping for chaos in the OU/TCU game. I'm not a fan of Big 12 basketball...errrr....football and my scenario puts Bama in the top 4! :)

1. Clemson gets top seed thanks to strength of schedule and dominating game against the 'Canes.
2. Wisky gets the 2nd seed thanks to an undefeated season.
3. Dawgs get the 3rd spot
4. Bama gets the wild card thanks to OU and OSU losses

Clemson beats Bama in back to back post-seasons.

Dawgs win a close one against a tough Wisky squad.

Clemson and GA renew what used to be an epic rivalry with Clemson giving the ACC 3 championships in the last 5 years. Quite a turnaround from just a few years ago.

You guys are welcome, by the way. Place your very large bets in confidence.

You're starting to sound like the anti-vaxers over in the Health and Fitness forum. Where's the tin foil hat? :)

The sooner (pun very much intended) to eight the better!

Here's how:

Eliminate the conference championship games and replace them with the 1R of the 8-team playoffs.

The five champions of the Power 5 conferences are in with 3 wildcards, including the highest ranked non-Power 5 champion. The committee would fill the other two WCs. Their votes would also be the tiebreaker when there is no h2h result to crown a clear champion, such as this year in the ACC.

If this would be in place today, here's your lineup:

ACC champion: Clemson (via higher ranking vs Miami)

Big Ten champion: Wisconsin

SEC: Auburn (beat Bama and Georgia)

Big 12: Oklahoma

Pac 12: USC

Non-Power Five: UCF

The last two in, decided by the committee, would be Alabama and probably Miami, based on their thumping of non-conference Notre Dame and their lack of a one-sided loss (Ohio State).

The AP poll matches these participants with the obvious and unfair exclusion of USF and the penalty to USC for losing their traditional non-conference rivalry game to Notre Dame. If they scheduled a cupcake and won, they're top 8.

Fans in Athens, Columbus and State College PA won't be happy with USC and UCF jumping them but they all had their own chances on the field to determine their destinies, not two bites at the apple and the whims of a committee (sorry, Georgia and TCU...losing once to your conference champion should be enough to disqualify).

Most intelligent post I've read since the pre-Rafa era.

Why is that fair? They both have 1 loss to crappy schools. Otherwise a pretty similar schedule (Clemson benefitted from beating Auburn early in the season before they were worth a damn). Clemson is not the best team in the nation from what I've seen. And I'm happy Miami get's their chance.

Late season losses shouldn't be a heavier blow than early season. Makes no sense.

Agreed RE late vs early season losses.

I think the general consensus is that Clemson had the toughest schedule in the top 10 (Sagarin has them #11, Auburn #15 and next is Oklahoma way down at #36). Clemson and Wisky are the only top 10 teams undefeated against the top 30 (Clemson 5-0 (most of any top 10 team) and Wisky 3-0) but Wisky's schedule rank is the worst by far at #61. Miami only played two top 30 teams (2-0) and has a schedule rank of #40 (I know you love these computer stats, r2 :)).

I don't know who the best team in the nation is. No clear cut fave this year. But I'm pretty sure it isn't Ohio State or Penn St or TCU or Washington. At least, I think so. :)

Vegas odds for this weekend:

Clemson -8
Auburn -1.5
Oklahoma -7.5
Wisky +6.5
Stanford +3

I would prefer clear conference champions via play on the field but every argument made vs expanding to 8 or 16 teams centers on how to cram in the extra games. Ergo, throw out this week's games. Miami would still get in via WC.

Jimbo to Texas A&M rumors...say it ain't so, Jimbo!

Why take a step down and be far away from the family. Your kids and the guys you've recruited need you in Tallytown!

As a Clemson fan, I really hope he leaves. FSU had about the smoothest transition from a legend with Bobby Bowden to Jimbo that I've ever seen. So now instead of having to beat Clemson every year, he will have to beat Bama and Auburn when the Noles return to the top?

Putting $10,000 on Clemson right now...not

The Clemson-Auburn game was strange. Auburn drove the length of the field on the first drive. Once Clemson got the lead, it was obvious that Auburn was not going to score again if we just ran the ball and punted the rest of the game playing field position. So that's what we did. We have done that in a few other games as well, just ride the defense. So the score differential may not be big, but the game is never in question.

The other thing that you don't see if you aren't a diehard fan is how many guys we play. Dabo is not afraid to lose a ranking point or two to give the team more depth which allows the score to be closer. So we have had a lot of significant playing time for 2nd and 3rd string guys this year. Our defense has been decimated until recently with injuries. We also are playing a ton of freshman and sophomores this year.

The Friday night debacle with Syracuse is unexplainable. That looked like a different coaching staff and team that day. Dabo was very calm on the sidelines which was weird. Our team had a bunch of personal fouls which is not characteristic either. We just lost our starting kicker for the season and our backup is so bad that we just go for it on 4th downs now. He sucked at Syracuse too. That will be our downfall this year if we get in a close game.

Herm Edwards is to interview for the vacant HC position at Arizona State. If he's hired, I might become a big Sun Devil fan.

Where is the hue and cry that a two-loss team has jumped over an unbeaten AND four one-loss Power 5 teams???

Its A Digrace, its an scandal, its a outrage!

I'm bored and I've found the nephew to be not very intereting after all so let's speculate if the injurious cameraman in Ann Arbor was a Khaki guy or a Badger???

The bar has been set high by the Pac-12 championship game last night. What a game! Darnold was an efficient 17/24 for 325 yards and 2 TDs as USC hung on for a 31-28 win.

UCF/Memphis at noon starts it off.

10 years/$75million was enough to lure Jimbo out of Tallahassee. I am disappoint...always thought he would rival Bowden's longevity and now I've gotta hope they can find another legend instead of riding the coaching carousel fairly popular down the road.

I’m shocked too but Clemson still has to see Jimbo for 2 more years since we have an away/home series with A&M starting next year.

You're getting that out of the way before he can have UUUGGGEEE impact.

We lost a few commitments from his defection but are they really gonna follow him to God forsaken College Station?

I turned down the Tennessee HC position when I found out it would require a full interview and a photo shoot before I "might be" considered for the job. I'm not into "maybes" so Fulmer will have to keep searching.

My mom used to tell me I'm 1/16 Cherokee so I may be on the short list of minorities to be considered at my alma mater now that the Fisher King has vacated the throne. Just don't call me Pocahontas.

OK guys. Let's hear it. Who are the 4 playoff teams?

First off, the winners today will be UCF, Oklahoma, Georgia, OSU, and Clemson

1) Clemson
2) Oklahoma
3) Georgia
4) Alabama

Pope Urban smites Nick Satan and makes it unanimously conference champions. Buckeyes get a second black eye in 1R vs Clemson. Bulldogs bite bad Baker in the large arse he owns, setting off a border war for the national title. Kirby outsmarts Dabo in triple OT FTW.

Shaquem Griffin has already made an impact in the early UCF lead, recovering a fumble on pure hustle and helping to force a punt on the next series. UCF 10-0.

UCF QB Milton strikes again, 24-14.

He's from Hawaii and was headed to Oregon in Mariota's footsteps before then Duck OC Frost left to take over the winless UCF team. It would be a shame if Frost now deserts him and his teammates for the Nebraska job. The committee's snide overlook of an unbeaten program at #14 behind multi-loss Power 5 teams almost justifies the move though.

Over/under was done with a quarter left in the UCF/Memphis track meet. 48-41 UCF with seven minutes to play in regulation.

Memphis leaves Orlando with one of the two undefeated scalps, winning 55-48 in OT.

Too many TO's spelled doom for Frosty & His Snowmen.

Close, low scoring SEC battle with the Dawgs up 10-7 at half. Johnson is not 100% for War Damn Eagles...8 rushes for 16 yards. Stidham will have to win this one for The Plainsmen.

Malzahn's cocky post-game boast ("Guess we kicked the dog crap out of them!") coming back to bite him in his arse. 28-7 Dawgs.

Clemson holds on against Miami and I think you nailed it. Ohio State beats Wisconsin and the Big 10 is left out in the cold.
