Na, not for this. They don’t want to get rid of Meyer. Easy to put him on “administrative leave” while they “investigate”. That looks good to the public.
And this isn’t really fair to Meyer anyway. If one of my employees is having trouble with his wife, I’m not going to fire him. And I’d sure hate to lose my job because I didn’t. Why aren’t this guys friends and family being investigated? Why is it Meyers responsibility to get involved in a domestic incident that it appears was widely known. I read that the police had been to the residence more than once

So, if you had a son considering a scholarship offer on Meyer's team you would feel totally comfortable about him being coached by a serial domestic abuser? Zach Smith should have been history after the first charge of aggravated assault was filed in Gainesville at UF in 2009. Meyer was an enabler then and remained so when he brought this bully with him to Columbus. The university should fire him on cause for this and seek repayment of his earnings all the way back to the day he hired Smith to be an assistant.
In my book, you get a second chance after domestic abuse only if you immediately undergo supervised counseling and there is no second incident. After that, cut the thug loose. In 2009, he abused his wife while she was pregnant. That's a sick person. If you turned your back and closed your eyes to that intolerable behavior you are an enabler and need to find another occupation with less impact on developing young adults.
Shame on Urban Meyer! Do something honorable for a change and voluntarily resign.

Great poast, Tom! Of course Urban knew what was going on. Let's not forget just how many player arrests occurred while he was at Florida (30+). Tim Tebow's legend covered up all manner of sins. Remember when he retired from Florida for his health and to spend more time with his family...and immediately took a job with ESPN in Bristol, Connecticut....then took his "dream job" at Ohio State shortly thereafter? Nothing new to see here. His wife being employed by The Ohio St University makes things even trickier. Domestic violence should NEVER be overlooked but always has been. But not now. This is EXACTLY the wrong moment in time for Urban's actions. He might have survived even a year or two ago but not now. No way he stays with OSU.
As for actual football...
...I think Bama has a pretty clear path to at least the SEC championship, where they'll beat Georgia as usual. Same goes for Clemson...can't see anyone competing. Va Tech looks good on paper but will likely play for second. They've had too many off field issues this off season and always find a way to lose 1-2 games they have no business losing. Washington has a nice looking team here on the left coast but can't compete with the big boys east of the Mississippi. This Urban thing will kill OSU's chances, leaving the door open for Harbaugh and it's put up or shut up time for him. My picks:1. SEC: Bama
2. ACC: Clemson
3. Big 10: Michigan St (bit of a dark horse)
4. Big 12: Oklahoma
5. Pac 10: Washington
Bama beats whoever they're matched up with to win it again. Too stacked. Their D lost a lot of starters but they are soooo deep at running back and receiver.
Of course, my picks only come to fruition if Iowa gets tripped up along the way.

I think Alabama will make up for any losses with better QB play this year. They will probably lose a game along the way but I'd still tip them to win it all unless...
Freshman Trevor Lawrence comes along as quick as everyone thinks for Clemson. The dude looked like the man in spring ball so we shall see. We can't beat Bama without spectacular QB play. Early game at Texas A&M could be dicey.

Meyer recants about not being aware of the 2015 domestic abuse allegations but that he followed proper procedures and protocols about reporting the situation to the university AD Gene Smith (no relation). He has now backtracked on his initial claim of ignorance because he wasn't prepared for the media to ask the questions they did three weeks ago at the Big 10 media day.
The guy has to go but this move may cover his own liability if the university attempts to fire him with cause, a move that would mean $millions of losses to him.

3 game suspension...3 GAME SUSPENSION?!!? What a joke! I don't want a single fan of THE Ohio St University to ever whine to me about corruption in the SEC EVER, EVER again. The poor kids at UNC got worse punishment for selling their Air Jordans. Meyer stands up there like he's in a hostage video. And now he's blaming poor memory, for which he's taking medication? The worst part was he never mentioned the victim of his complicity for nearly a decade in his monotonic "acceptance" of his "punishment." Courtney Smith's name was spoken only by a reporter and his response was he was "sorry" for all involved in this. The only emotion he expressed was his love for Ohio State and his reverence for Earle Bruce, the grandfather of the abuser.
Three games, two vs cupcakes and a home date vs #16 TCU and this misogynistic POS is back on the sideline.

Urban knew everything listed in the investigation, including the 2009 incident but "had doubts" the dirt bag Zach Smith would beat his wife again in 2015? Dude takes high school coaches to strip clubs on recruiting trips, gets adult toys delivered to the athletic office (what a moron!), has an affair with an office staffer, DUI and is delinquent on multiple debts...but you have to give him the benefit of the doubt because he's your mentor's son?! Why did you wipe your phone messages, Urban? Nearly anyone else would be canned. This makes Jim Tressel look like an altar boy, in comparison.

Mild understatement there...Aaron Hernandez began his matriculation in mayhem almost as soon as he arrived in Gainesville. Maybe that's why Meyer looked the other way when Zach Smith beat his pregnant wife just two years after Hernandez sucker punched a bouncer at a bar as an underage freshman and never received a bit of discipline for the altercation.

Yep. U of F under Meyer gave the 80's Canes a run (if not surpassed) for their money for problem players.
As for the upcoming season, I can't wait!
The company one of my best friends works for has a suite at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, so hoping to get back to VA for the Tech/Miami game in November.Love Herm Edwards (polar opposite of Meyer on the integrity scale right now) and would love to see him surprise a few teams in the PAC 12 this year.
As much as I can't stand Georgia fans, would love to see them win it all this year. "They are long-suffering and deserve it.
Really want Oregon to get back into the mix...the PAC is much more fun when they're good. Looking forward to what Chip does with UCLA.
Hoping that Stoops takes another step forward with my UK Cats but not holding my breath.

I'm confident we'll see some exciting football under Willie Taggart and, dare I say, a different and hopefully successful method to compete with the Big Cat in our ACC division. This year's schedule is pretty scary though for a first year coach to face...your Hokies but at the Doak on Lanor Day starts our gauntlet; two games on the road at the Ville and down South in Miami as September ends and October begins will be the litmus test of how improved we'll be. Then the Swinney Todds come to T-town in mid-October before we go back on the road vs perennial PITA NC State and another trip to the Holy Land in South Bend.
If we can rise up to be in the top 3 within the state, mission somewhat accomplished. We might have to wait until the season finale at home vs The Reptiles to determine that outcome.

Our schedule is always tough with our traditional rivalries and the ACC divisional games but the double whammy of VaTech/ND as extra courses takes it to the max, especially with the regime change.I agree that Taggart will be a nice change of pace but that schedule is tough. I'm not a fan of playing a "real" team the first game. That's where I think you put the creampuff at home to shake the rust off. Then let the season play out. Having such an important game that is also in conference like FSU and VaTech doesn't seem right. Sure they are in opposite divisions but one team is a loss down in their division immediately.

FSU tradition...I remember several years we played Miami to open the season and got spanked. Then last year we started vs Bama. Our toughest opener during the three title years was 2013, vs Pittsburgh on the road.
You're right, it is tough to start with that level of competition, especially with a new regime but I don't think anyone was expecting last year's collapse and Jimbo leaving when the schedule was made.

Good point, these schedules are made a decade in advance. College has no preseason, so it's nice to have 1 live game against a JV team before you play the better teams.

Bowden' second title year started at home vs Louisiana Tech so he eventually bought into that scheme. The first title year they opened vs Kansas, also a gimme.
In his early years of building prestige Bowdn was willing to schedule the big dogs and going to their houses. I remember 1991, their last year as an independent before joining the ACC, when they risked their #1 ranking by opening vs #19 BYU in Anaheim for one of those opening week games they arrange over the offseason. We won that, went home for two cream puffs and then tackled Big Blue in Ann Arbor in a 51-31 classic. The season ended badly playing Miami (L 16-17) and at Florida (L 9-14). We were spent by the end, also going into LSU's Death Valley in late October and also Va Tech here in Orlando after beating a good Syracuse team at home.
Quite a schedule that almost paid off.

Not the game I expected at all. This was supposed to be reload year for Va Tech's D, particularly the secondary. I'm still not sure how good the secondary will be (though there were positive glimpses) be cause the front line, particularly the D ends were so dominant. The Hokies always have trouble getting started/scoring early, so when the engine was firing in the 1st, I had a pretty good feeling. Special teams and no turnovers were huge for Va Tech ( 3 Int's and 2 fumbles for FSU...ouch!). I still don't think the Hokies can score with Clemson but that D gives them a puncher's chance...if they can keep from blowing a winnable game over the next few weeks.
