It is here.

I took about 5 years off after being a huge fan. Excited but wondering how all the changes will feel.

Not a Pac 12 guy but would love to see Oregon St build on last year and win the last title of this proud conference. Conversely, would love to see USC fall on their duffs and lose 3-4...to get them used to annual 3-4 loss seasons in the Big 10. :)
But really, does the regular season matter anyway? We all know an SEC team will win the national championship.

I feel bad for my father in law. He's a Cal grad who only wanted to see them in a Rose Bowl. Never gonna happen now. A neighbor down the street has a Cal "Rose Bowl Before I Die" license plate cover...bummer.

Thoughts on some of those West Coast schools joining the ACC? I know you had a stint back east in college so I think you are the subject matter expert on it! Hope all is well.

Mikeler, my man! I hope you're not in the direct path of this hurricane and that all is well with you and your family, my friend.

I know you know from past discussions here that for the most part, I hate conference realignment. I absolutely hate that the Big 12 was nearly destroyed and the Pac 12 was killed off. Being a Va Tech grad, I'm sincerely nervous about the ACC's future. I would hate to see Clemson and FSU bolt to the SEC. I don't want to see the Big 10 poach UVA and UNC. Maryland doesn't fit in the Big 10. Every Maryland grad I know misses the ACC. Rutgers in the Big 10 is an abomination. I'm for ACC expansion right now, only because it might stop the bleeding for a bit or keep the ACC intact until 'Mega Conference' is finally created and all schools outside the traditional top 25 or 30 powers are banished to the minor leagues. SMU hasn't been great athletically but it has a big alumni base and huge endowment and media market and good academics. I hate to see Cal and Stanford left out, even if their football programs have been in the toilet. I was listening to a podcast a couple of weeks ago mentioning just how many Olympic athletes come out of the two schools and how this will impact those sports. They have thoroughly dominated swimming, gymnastics and many of the track disciplines over the years. You're also talking about a big media market, Silicon Valley and two of the best universities in the world. They're offering to come in at ~30% share for multiple years (0% share for up to 7 years in SMU's case), so it's worth the experiment. My wife and in-laws are also Cal grads, making for some really intriguing game days when my Hokies come to town. :)

This whole thing is destroying every college sport with the exception of football and the few elite basketball programs that make money. I would really love to see football uncoupled from the major conferences and let everything return to regional conferences to make travel realistic. I'm interested to see what happens in the near future when some of this media money dries up or goes away completely. It' already starting to happen. Will the big dawgs start to kick/vote underperforming schools out of conferences? They all carry a lot of dead weight in terms of football performance (Indiana? Rutgers? Vandy?). It's sad because I'm a little less interested in college football every year and I played the game. Someone once mentioned in a college football thread that it's our closest thing to European football/soccer and I couldn't agree more. But that's going away with the loss of regional rivalries and realignment. How many USC fans not living in NJ are traveling to Rutgers to tailgate and party? UCLA can't even draw crowds in LA. It's a shame.

Stay safe, Mikeler.

It’s hard for me to take college football seriously any more with the absurd geographical realignments taking place as colleges obliterate traditions and any pretense of college football being anything more than semi-pro NFL minor leagues, and players now like wandering unaffiliated Ronin, switching allegiances in search of the highest bidder, and universities pimping their teams for a cut of the tv/streaming revenues that have ballooned in the era of corporatized online gambling. The sport has become like Amsterdam’s De Wallen district, with conferences flush with broadcasting and gambling money walking the streets and picking the most enticing teams from the windows. I'm glad that the players are getting at least a bit of the vast money they generate, but it's hard for me to see why anyone not gambling on games in some form is emotionally invested in the games.

You have all the credibility to opine on this. I prefer geographical conferences so the potential west coast additions don't sit well with me.
It's all about survival at this point it seems.

It’s closing time at the singles bar for Cal and Stanford. The ACC makes no sense and means a lot of time in air for their sports teams, but it's looking pretty sexy now, despite wanting money for the hook up.

Cal and Stanford might take a 30% share after joining ACC expansion in the latest wave of conference realignments

ByCaleb Gebrewold

The California Bears and Stanford Cardinal appear destined to join the ACC after the collapse of the Pac-12, which has already lost eight of its 12 programs. Both programs appear willing to take only 30% of their share of the conference's revenue to facilitate a move.

I hope TCU beats Coach Ego by about 50.
I think you might be right :)

"Colorado vs. TCU score prediction: The SP+ model projects that TCU will defeat Colorado by an estimated score of 41 to 15, with a 93 percent chance to win the game outright by a projected margin of 26.1 points."

Welcome to the ACC, Cal, Stanford and SMU! I'm an ACC grad and still not sure what to make of this but I'm an optimist at heart. :) If nothing else, it gives me the chance to tailgate with Hokie and UVA fans in Berkeley and Palo Alto on a regular basis. :)

Boulevard tailgate at SMU is probably more realistic.

Or if I show up when my Clemson Tigers roll out west!

One word sums up this entire thread…DAWGS!

And my galfriend is a FSU grad from the mid/late 80’s so I gotta play that Seminole thing at times as well...she’s as diehard as it can get with that crew and don’t get in her way when they’re playing.

Probably so. They’re still loaded. Interesting to see if their new QB blends in seamlessly. It’s funny because one of my wife and I’s best friends are a couple that are UGA grads and they were looooooong suffering. But now they’re on the verge of a 3 peat and the dominant team. Funny how quickly Smart turned it around.

Sweet, didn’t know we had this thread.

Epic collapses by Nebraska & Georgia Tech last two nights. Florida looked beyond awful.

My Longhorns get a gimme today in the sweltering heat, then at Bama next week.

At least TCU lost to a school in the conference, Baylor just lost to Texas State ? They must be crying in their Magnolia beers tonight.

Wasn’t overly impressed with me Dawgs yesterday, couldn’t watch it as it unfolded, went to a Doobie Brothers concert yesterday evening. Had to record it and watched it first thing this morning…sad to say but had the Dawgs ran up on a couple o’ teams yesterday that not only won but lost as well, they might be kicking this year off in the L column vice the W column. They'll get it together and start hitting on all cylinders hopefully sooner rather than later, if that 3-peat is gonna happen.

On the plus side, UGA basically did that last year too. Looked really bad against Kent State and Missouri.

Did catch a fair amount of the Colorado game…they looked damn good. This could very well be a great season for the Buff’s…if any team could use a massive turn-around it’s them.
Yeah it will be interesting which teams take control of these new conferences.

I met ol’ Primetime decades ago in ‘92 after a Falcons game in Atl. We talked for prob 10-15 mins…actually a pretty down to earth guy back in those days and I’m sure still is, at least outside the limelight and cameras.

PAC-12 is looking to go 13-0 with Oregon St here shortly. Col was a nice story yesterday, but their likely ceiling this season is bowl-eligible.

On that two Benjamin note, it’s horizontal time. Dove season rolled in Sat and time to hit the fields again at daybreak.
