College teams by player pipeline

Ok so international vs American players seems to always be a hot topic in here so I am making this thread to gage teams on how they have constructed their rosters over the years (like last 10-15 years or so, since I started following college tennis closely). I am focusing on the men's side since I know it better. This is just based off my recollections, if anything seems wrong to you feel free to correct.

Also this thread is not for debate about whether international players are good for college tennis or not, we have other threads for that. This is just seeing where players come from and what different programs have gone for through the years.

Categories:
American (programs that have been more American based)
Mixed (programs that have been relatively even)
International (programs that have been more International based).

Asterisk means heavily in that category to indicate it has been like 90% or more one way. Specific international pipelines that they tap often in parentheses. Sometimes more specific than others.

Notable other conference teams to come in another post.

Great post. That's why I feel it would be so sad if they outlawed internationals in college tennis. It's clear that each school has a distinct recruiting philosophy and it makes for interesting matchups. Stereotypes aside, even within the "American" bucket, I feel Stanford especially recruits many Asian Americans.

My 2c is Asian Americans more than any other demographic want to head to Stanford, Duke, Ivies or failing that, D3s. Ofc there are exceptions but those families place a great deal of emphasis on attending such programs. I’d think more so than the general pop. So there’s kind of a two way courtship.

Yes I find it fascinating personally. About how these certain pipelines end up in these universities and schools. Like Wake for instance using the "unique country" pipeline. Countries that don't usually produce many tennis players. Like they've had players from Cyprus, Uzbekistan, Tunisia. Montenegro, Saudi Arabia and Bolivia in recent years. Just interesting how certain pipelines form.

I’ve noticed a lot more Italians showing up on men’s rosters this year than in past years. This of course goes hand in hand with how many Italians there are in the challengers and ITFs now with their rich depth of talent in the recent Italy tennis boom. Filling up the ATP rankings more and more so only natural for more to migrate to college tennis.

Conversely I’ve noticed fewer Germans in recent years. When that used to be the most common country for college teams to get talent from.

This is a great thread. Would like to see your assessment of the AAC when you have time.

In passing conversations with a few coaches, some countries offer very high incentives (free?) for their kids to go to college in country. I don't have a list of those countries.

I find this interesting! I've noticed it a little. We just brought in a German guy at semester and signed an Italian player for next year. One of the universities where a close friend of mine works has three Italians on their team. Tons of schools in our conference have Italians as well.

For our women, we've had a good mix of South American, African, and now Eastern European players come in. Our men's team is still developing so we don't have a "pipeline" per say yet.

Oh yeah I was gonna do some mid majors but forgot to circle back to it. Many mid-majors go full or mostly international. But here are a few I have noticed with specific pipelines

Memphis - UK
ETSU - South America
San Diego - Northern Europe/Scandinavia
MTSU - Eastern Europe
Mercer - Africa
(Big 12 now) UCF - Morocco (this year with 3)
