College utr breakdown

A few questions about UTR and likelihood of playing college tennis. For now, let’s limit this to division 1.

Sooner or later it seems, IF your child is talented academically, and they can go to a local D1 school on an academic scholarship, that might make more sense than paying to play at d2 or d3. An example could be “well should I attend ga tech or UGA for free and NOT play tennis, or attend Carnegie Mellon and drop 300k to play tennis.

A. When are colleges deciding , and when is “too late”. Summer after junior year? Senior year?

B. What should your utr be at this point?

C. If you do NOT reclass, is there any advantage? (Well he is a 17 yr old 11 but trending up. The other kid is 19 and a 12 utr that isn’t ). Or they strictly want the highest number?

D. Do grades play a role? (He has a 1500 sat and a 11.5 vs a 1000 sat 12)

I ask because answers seem to be all over the place. I see some kids signed as an 11.5 to power 6 programs, and others say you should be a 13. However only a handful of those 13’s in the entire country that are not yet in college.

Following utr’s is also interesting as when some of the 12 utr’s were younger they had a gradual progression. (7.5 at 13 years old) Others seem to be 9.5 at 12 years old. At what age do people generally know if it is realistic or not?

I think the answer to all is that it depends.
