Collins accuses Swiatek of being hypocritical after a tense encounter

Iga Swiatek and Danielle Collins starred in a tense quarterfinal match at the Paris Olympic Games, which ended with a handshake accompanied by reproaches from the American. Throughout the match, there were some peculiar moments, with Iga accidentally taking a hit to the stomach and the American showing frustration with her opponent's delay in serving. However, when the match ended with the American withdrawing due to injury, she had some words for Iga to express her grievances. We don’t know what Collins said, but she later stated: "

I told Iga she didn't need to be hypocritical about my injury. A lot of things happen on camera, and there are many charismatic people who act one way in front of the camera and another way in the locker room. I simply haven't had the best experience, and I don't feel anyone should be hypocritical. They can be as they are, I accept it, and I don’t need falseness."

Injury? Can somebody translate this into English?

Sounds like mostly sour grapes from Collins.
Although Iga does come across as a two-faced phony.

Swiatek looked stunned by the insults which didn't seem to have anything to do with this match and were quite personal. Collins is known for being a hot head and complaining a lot, Swiatek seemed nothing but graceful with Dani retiring.

No need for this. Dani just upset it didn't go her way today.

Collins is a great player but she is really trashy there, following the Navarro's route here apparently.
Her statement makes no sense, as if most players weren't just minding their own business in the locker room, get out of there. Swiatek is not a saint (and neither is Qinwen, going back to Navarro's statement), but this is way off. American girls embarrassing themselves, good for JPeg for not delivering such petty remarks, hell, Coco was whining a bit but that was still fine, it's really just Collins and Navarro making fools of themselves.

We can talk about Iga's toilet breaks, but calling her out for being insincere regarding an injury?

It's oddly harsh and doesn't seem to have anything to actually do with this match. I feel for Iga here. Seems Collins is trying to imply she's not liked in the locker room when we all know Danielle is the one known for her bitchiness. Iga looked hurt by the comment, think it got under her skin.

Injury? She’s out there playing doubles right now!

Sounds like a little madam to me. Very biitchy.

Classic flopper
Kudos Iggy, you're good enough to be in premier league or perhaps the NBA.

Collins obviously was expecting the full body bird jump maneuver, by Iggy, and wanted to remain focused. Good on her

I have no idea what is going on. I do not get what Collins is implying. Like, is she trying to say that Swiatek does not care about her/anyone in the locker room - so Swiatek should not 'pretend' that she is worried about Collins health at the end of the match? What does " I simply haven't had the best experience, " (that is what Twitter claims Collins said) mean/refer to?

And she retired apparently due to heat stroke and heat related issues - and she plays doubles _again_ after short break??

Collins on court attitude is always questionable and doesn't surprise me that something....everything offended her. But Iga moves on and Collins can go sit with her GOAT RBF and complain somewhere else.

Wow, not a good couple days for American women's tennis!
I was trying to warm up to Collins as she's worked through health issues, and is having a great year. But now, she's trying to "out-asshat" Navarro.

Collins most likely knew the match was lost to Iga. She may have had a niggle and felt more rest before her doubles match would be beneficial as she was playing with a doubles specialist and many singles players will actually see doubles as equal at the OG. Not defending Danimal but I think it's a bit more nuanced. Certainly she could have finished that singles match but I see why if there's any sensation you're going to want to have it checked and rest before trying to progress with your doubles partner.

Apparently she was serving underhand in the doubles match, so def not 100%(I watched her singles and she said she was having ab issues)

I know it's a bit off topic (it was a quarterfinal in this case), but I was wondering this : Is it allowed to withdraw (or not show up at all) from an Olympics Games semifinal... And then still play the bronze medal match the next day? What if Vekic can't play her semifinal tomorrow but wants to play the little final on Saturday? Is it possible? Does anyone know? Thanks.

Iga has that mean streak in her,, you should have seen her stare down to that short girl when she lost in the Wimbledon this year...

I...don't know - good question.

Strange behaviour from Collins. How can you retire with injury from a singles match and then proceed to play a doubles just a few hours later! Utter bullsh*t!
It's the Olympics, maybe she was fit enough to play doubles and owed it to her partner. I can see that. She also knew she wasn't going to beat Iga. It was her choice.

Ironic coming from Collins really. Retiring due to an injury, and then participating in a doubles match 90 minutes later.

You're either fit enough to play tennis or you aren't.

They do not even play 3 sets.
An otherwise injured singles player disabled for singles match could easily play a doubles match.

You clearly have not played any serious doubles matches and just rushing to defend Collins.

Where is the evidence that Collins was not injured?
Collins was serving underhand in the subsequent match so there was clearly an inury.
News: "injured stomach muscle caused by cramping and dehydration"
That injury precipitated her retirement in the third set. Could she have finished? Probably.
But with a doubles match upcoming, better to save yourself.

Pro Doubles requires far less exertion than pro singles. It is not up for debate. It is a fact.
Must serve 50% less and play only two sets and cover half the court. Points are much shorter.
Doubles player Bopanna won Australian Open 2024 at age 44.
It is common for 40-year-olds Doubles players to play in Slams (Rajeev Ram and others). That never happens with singles.

So clearly a hampered Collins got thru a Doubles match. That task would have been nearly impossible in singles.

Really hoping the bitchiness and backstabbing sustain beyond the Olympics. We desperately need something to talk about besides extemporaneous hypotheticals.
