Coming back to tennis in 50’s is WAY harder than I thought. It’s no joke

If you were a 53 year-old woman about a year ago...

How did you become a mid 70s male a year later?

IN DEFENSE OF GLENDA, Hark & Beware! We Rookies stick together. (At least until the knives slip out of our pockets.)

Sir onehandbh, your attempt at "speed reading" Glenda's message is quite laudable, however it seems that you
unfortunately came up with the wrong conclusions.

In one paragraph in question, she didn't say that she was 53 years old "now." What she said was that some years ago,
when she was 53, her rating dropped to the 4.5 level.

Due to your admirable speed reading of another paragraph, you came to the mistaken conclusion that she is a male.
I suppose that's not you fault, because in the paragraph that you talk about, she doesn't say exactly if she is female,
male, Bigfoot, or Martian. But in her other posts, she has often said that she is a healthy young woman of 74 years.
------ So Be It ⚜ ------ And so now, may I return to my secluded high Alpine hut? My mule Molisa really misses me.

BlueB, I'm a national sportswriter for several major newspapers, including a few top newspapers along the Eastern Seaboard. I know about Petkovik's upbringing, and I've interviewed her a couple times. Most every tennis fan knows that Petkovik chose German as her nationality. As a reminder, I'm a writer, not a photographer. So no pics from me. I'm also a pretty damn good tennis player but dropping to a 4.5 rating at 53 years old. I still play in tournaments against 5.0 college tennis player kids. What does that tell you? Never mind. My husband likes the results of my staying in playing (or playful) condition.

I do not see anywhere in her post stating that it was some years ago (when she was 53 years old).

I have not, however, ruled out the existence and use of a time machine. Steins;Gate showed us that with the right microwave oven and link to CERN, anything can happen.

My fellow space traveler, you have opened my dim eyes, for me to remember that Djokovic (and perhaps Glenda)
have been benefiting from the awesome theory of "The Twin Paradox." I've long suspected that Djokovic has been
spending his prize money on round trip space flights at near the speed of light, which makes him appear years younger
when he returns to Earth. Could it be true that Glenda is doing the same? That would be historic for Talk Tennis!

We, as peaceful members here, must hope that Glenda is following the conservation law of "Time Translation Symmetry."
This theory, brought to the world by Nathan Youra Smuck, has been instrumental in discovering those in need of our praise.

At 74 years old, I was recently rated a 5.5 by a USTA training camp in South Florida.

I thought the rating was somewhat too high. I grade myself a 5.0 , still moving well, still accurate, still volleying well, still solidly hitting serves and baseline shots but not at the pace of a couple years ago.

On fitness, a couple weeks ago, I played a 20-year-old gal placed No. 2 on the S.M.U. Mustangs tennis team, lots of quick points off my regular serve-and-volley play, and quite a few longer rallies off the gal's serve-and-baseline play.

I'm still trying to understand Glenda's path.

At 53 she dropped to 4.5

But then at 74 she got rated as a 5.5 but considers herself to actually be a 5.0. Impressive.

When I was in high school there was this old lady in her mid 70s who used to be really good and still played at a good enough level that the #1 girl at my high school could not beat her until her senior year. The lady didn't have a lot of power or great movement anymore, but solid consistency, depth and placement. Looking back I think she was probably playing at around the 4.0-4.5 level at the time.

Hey folks! What happened to Mrs. Thundersmackdown (Glenda)? I'm getting that ol' curious feeling.
We all remember so well that she had, along with Djokovic, been utilizing the Twin Paradox Theory.
Through their brave effort, they have proved that round-trip space travel at close to the speed of light,
actually makes a person seem a few years younger when they return from their voyage.

Now, I don't want to rush ahead of the ominous facts, but is it possible that she made an unfortunate mistake
of coming too close to the Minkowski Space, as she planned her return back home to Earth? You may not
have heard, but Professor Nathan Youra Smuck constantly warned professional tennis players about that.
If my suspicions are plausible, Glenda may have returned as a ten year old prodigy, on the island of Java.

no.1 priority is reducing weight. slender body is the best for tennis.

change your relationship with food... no carbs. only eat high fat/protein. only eat just enough to rid the hungry feel... that's it.

say if your 5'11 if you get down to 145 lbs, which is what I have.. you feel weightless on the court.

All I can say is, GOOD LUCK with your constant dreams of blueberry pie!! ... May you sleep in peace.

Man I feel your pain. I can only imagine 50s. Was a USTA Junior/High school varsity player back in the day. I’m 30 now and got back into it after 6 years and also immediately gave myself monster tendinitis among hurting almost every other body part. My body felt like it went through a rock crusher after 30 minutes of play, I was gassed after every rally, and in pain after every play session.

Crazy thing is I’ve been an avid weightlifter/personal trainer for over a decade and have extremely good fitness, but tennis requires a different breed of athleticism. Give it time man, Rome wasn’t built in a day, or in this case rebuilt lol.
