Comparing Federer/Nadal/Djokovic by Big Tournaments Won in Each Half of Year

I think most tennis fans would split the tennis season up from the Australian Open to the French Open and then Wimbledon to the ATP Tour Finals.

Of course, there are two Grand Slams and 5 Masters Series in the first half and two Grand Slams, 4 Masters Series, and ATP Tour Finals in the second half.

How do Federer/Nadal/Djokovic compare:

1st Half
Nadal - 33
Djokovic - 26
Federer - 17

2nd Half
Federer - 30
Djokovic - 20
Nadal - 9

interesting way to look a it. Just based on these numbers you can see that Nole is the more consistent, or less specialized of the three. Interesting also how big a difference there is for Nadal in the two halves.

Dividing the better half over the lesser half, as a measure of concentration, gives us these results (a 1 means they won the same amount of tourneys in each half):

Nadal: 3.7
Fed: 1.8
Nole: 1.3

No surprises here. First half is all slow courts, meaning Nadal will excel, while second half is fast(relative to today's homogenized courts at least), so Federer will excel. Interesting to see Djokovic do well in both halves, though.

I think most tennis fans would split up the season into...

The Real Season: French Open through US Open.

The Glorified Exhibition Season: Everything else until the next French Open rolls around.

Also, most people care about nothing but slams.

Which means during the Real Season, it's...
Fed: 13
Nadal: 13
Djokovik: 6

While during the exhibition season, it's...
Djokovic: 6
Fed: 4
Nadal: 1
