To put things in real perspective, Sampras won 7 Major indoors tournament to Federer's 6. This include 5 World Championships and 2 Grand Slam Cups. So, technically Federer still needs to win 1 more indoor major to tie Sampras.

I can think of only 2 outstanding indoor players in Federer's time. That is a factor to consider here.
