Good deal for both.
Those shoes look mad!
Going to have to pick up the black ones.
Those black Ultra Fly's are INSANE!
The black pair in the article has me intrigued for sure. Tho at that price point unless it comes with a sole warranty I can't justify pullin the trigger perhaps on discount or with a voucher where I'm paying the difference it may work. Would be an interesting show to wear tho.
Welcome home, I guess.
Wow Babolast. I confirmed this an hour before you.
I'm just messing with you haha.
Did you? Sorry. As soon as I saw the photo and got 100% confirmation I created the thread. My apologies.
All good. UltraFlys look really good. Look forward to getting a pair.
Does he really hit an overhead with that grip?
No, he's hitting a high forehand from behind the baseline.
where is there more on this story? URL?
These two entities have been on a collision course for a while. Finally it has happened. One of my favourite players to watch combined with the best gear manufacturer. Great combination. Looking forward to seeing what Nike comes up with as Jack's career thrives.
well, I saw that- but there are no details anywhere on him signing a deal.
At my first post. He is head to toe in Nike.
I know your work from UniWatch and NT and the like so I get you want confirmation but I would assume being connected to a article via quotes to a what for him is not only a new line but new brand is pretty solid. Though I would like to know the deal length and details. He is just cracking the top 25 and looking to make a lasting stay there be interesting to see what value Nike has on that so to speak.
Did you want to know how long the deal is for and the amount of money?
I just find it odd that there is no story anywhere about him leaving adidas for Nike. That kind of thing usually garners coverage for such a highly ranked guy. But Nike Media Services sent me the same photo as above, so that's fine for me.
He also just announced on his Twitter.
All good. I must admit I was hoping to see more about it. Sock is a favourite of mine so it will be interesting to see where Nike takes things.
From the BNP Paribas Open FB page
I like Jack Sock and think this is a great move by Nike.
His practice outfit looks good!
Nike hitting back after losing Alex Zverev.
Good job snatching a piece from Sharapova at a difficult hour.
Is Sock the only American (besides Sharapova's "I've lived in the US my whole life but compete for Russia" BS) sponsored by the biggest American sports company?
Off the top of my head, some of the American tennis players that are wearing Nike include:
Nike also still seems to have an endorsement relationship with Agassi, Sampras, and McEnroe (even though they are only playing on the Champions tour).
This has nothing to do with Sharapova. Sock has been in negotiations with Nike since at least September last year.
Speaking of Sharapova, she was the first athlete I met when I started working at Nike. She was much more gracious and down-to-earth in person than I expected - I like her. Based on this, I realize I'm biased and much more inclined to give her the benefit of doubt. I believe her story, and think she (and her support team) made an incredibly bad mistake. I was impressed that she took full responsibility herself and didn't throw her doctor/trainer/coach under the bus. That said, I understand the vitriol and suspicion expressed in some of the other threads. Sharapova's reputation has been damaged forever. Based on what I've read in the WADA Code, I also think she'll get at least a 2 year suspension from the ITF, and would be surprised if it's reduced at all.
Personally, I was disappointed that Nike suspended it's contractual relationship with Sharapova given that she's represented the brand so well for her entire pro career. As far as I know, she's well liked behind the scenes and there are some strong relationships here. On the other hand, Maria reportedly makes about $10 million per year to endorse Nike, and if she isn't going to be on the court for the next 2 years, why should Nike pay her? I don't see it as a moral stand so much as just a smart business decision. Also note that her contract was suspended, not cancelled.
(By the way, it's different than if she was injured. If that happened, she could still endorse the brand and be part of advertisements. However, with a positive drug test and suspension from tennis activities, she isn't able to do her job.)
Thank you for this essay. Quite refreshing to have an insider step over the confidentiality agreement nonsense and share info with the forum. Also, I don’t think you need an apostrophe in “suspended it's contractual.”
Dude, this is tennis not the NBA, NFL or Euro football (soccer). We're lucky we don't get our tennis news by smoke signal.
Thought UA might make a run at Sock. But good signing for Nike to bolster the stable for the future.
I really hoped UA or Travis Matthew would sign him, though Nike makes sense as he wore it briefly when playing futures level events.
And this whole thread is awesome. Great read.
Liking this news too but I'm so ready for the red/yellow thing to be over. Yellow looks great with so many colors...red isn't one of them!
Congratulation to Nike and Jack Sock on the signing. Adidas products are not made very well and defects are extremely hard to return for exchange! Nike has always come through for me!
Never had one problem with Adidas quality or exchanges...
