This is for a righty. Read article on 2-handed backhand that talked about crossing over and placement of the right foot in setting up. In setting up, how/where do you place your right foot in relation to your left foot in setting up for a 2-handed backhand. If you have enough time, I always thought that you should place the right foot directly in front of the left foot and put weight on the front foot for the 2-handed backhand hit.

you want to step into the court with your right foot (shoulder-width apart, maybe a little mote). you want to shift your weight into your right foot as you make contact. be sure not to dip your shoulder into the ball, as this will drive the ball down.

Just imagine you are standing on a clock. The right foot is at 12 and left foot is at 6 o'clock positions .. square stance .. so to speak. In other words both feet are in the same line. However, since your left hand is in a lefty forehand position, thus, the double handed backhand is partly lefty's forehand and righty's backhand which also means that both the shoulders are the hitting shoulders. Because of this, it is also economical, and widely used at the Pro level, to use open stance wherein the right foot is at 3 and left foot is at 9 o'clock positions. In other words, if you have the time it is better to step in and use square stance, however, if you are pressed for the time, use open stance because open stance allows you to recover quickly into the center of the court.
